when they offer free windows games, I wish you could download them that way if they ever get ported to mac they are still free to you.

When I first got steam for Mac, all the games in my library which were available for mac were ready for me to download. So for steam at least, the above is true. Doubt it works for anything else though. I recently had to buy Plants vs Zombies for the fourth (yes, fourth) time for my MBP.

Yeah I liked how when I got my mbp and downloaded Steam, all I had to do was download HL2 and CCS again, free though because I already had bought them on my old Windows PC.

bought CSS and it runs with 60fps on 10.6.4 with lower graphic settings than standard. without changing these settings it would be only 30fps.

apple computers have never needed great graphics drivers until now. I’m sure nvidea is working on getting new drivers out that actually use the GPU to its full potential.

Soccer junkies who would be interested in club (or country) general management simulation out there should check out Football Manager 10. Steamplay enabled, runs great on my 15" i5 and it should run fine on other model macs. It focuses way more on club management and coaching simulation than graphical bells and whistles, but once you dive in, it is incredibly solid and deep. And, it's been on sale in steam recently.

Great game for those so inclined.

CAD applications could really use good graphics drivers....

The '11 version should be out in a month or two if you can wait.

yeah they converted the source engine but not the original hl engine so that means no cs 1.6 :( i dont care about cs:s it feels way too cartoonish

It's Football not Soccer! ;)

Been playing Footy Manager, aka Championship Manager (in old days) for 12 years now. Still as good as it was. Bet there's a few people from the UK here who have had the same experience! Ruined anyone's college/uni work yeah?!

Nothing works on my spex

these are my spex:
MBP 17"
Mac OS X
Version 10.6.4
Processor 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7
RAM: 8 GB
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M
256 SSD

CSS DOES NOT WORK AT ALL! well i mean on the mac OS.

so i go and install it on parallels desktop that is running a windows 7 ultimate version and strangely enough RUNS!! but the mouse is just disgustingly worthless... Can't aim... the acceleration kills the whole smooth aiming sensation thing. Therefore my gaming experience is not expanding due to my mbp.

sigh...

tried running tf2 on steam via osx.. it is completely laggy. even steam itself seems to be a bit buggy.

i went ahead and uninstalled it off osx and am now only planning to game on my win7 partition.

I'd try again after you upgrade from 10.6.4 to 10.6.X
the .4 update has really been restricting performance for a few users (me included) I even had to downgrade back to .3 to get playable FPS.
Also, what exactly happs, does CS even launch? On my machine under 10.6.4 it would launch, but then hang at the loading screen, but eventually load and be somewhat playable after about 10 minutes.

I really hope we get better drivers under OS X in the near future. Until then, I have to admit, Windows will lead in gaming. If Apple makes it possible for better performance in Mac OS than Windows, we might even start seeing Mac OS + console only releases of some games. xD Or at least all games will be released for OS X... (My dream..)

I don't know what you guys are talking about, I get 60FPS with all on max 2x antileasing 1920x1200 resolution with the 330M GT on 10.6.4

LOVING steam!

Ok, so it an be a pain in the a** sometimes, as it's a slow and a bit clunky, but now that I've gotten used to it, it's no longer a hindrance.

I have HL2, HL2 ep1 and 2, Portal, Civ IV on Steam. Not to mention StarCraft, StarCraft2, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, Sims 2.... pretty happy about it as a gaming console right now!!

Just can't wait for HL and all its expansions to be ported to mac. It's a good time to be a gamer on ze mac! Of course, I'm not a hardcore gamer.
