I drove over my computer

That's nothing. I drove over my computer once. The screen looks *way* worse than yours. :D

You can see the circle where the Apple logo is, as well as a horizontal line that must've been from the top of the trackpad/palmrest area. Lots of little dots from the raised corners of the old aluminum keyboard keys.

I don't do a lot of video watching, and I pretty much only notice when there is a black screen, so it's an annoyance rather than a deal breaker. I *believe* fixing it is a top-tier big-ass fix, so it'd be close to a grand U.S., if not more.

The only real downside for me is the problem is so severe I've probably really eaten into the resale value of it. So I'll keep it 4-5 years instead of upgrading it after three.

The other potential problem is if I have to take it to Apple again for the GPU fix, there's always a chance they could see the damage (after they've swapped the logic board) and claim the computer no longer qualifies for repair.

On the other hand, if my GPU dies twice more, I could get a free replacement for a computer I drove over!

Solution: Do not place MBPs where they can be stepped on while in use and put MBPs in locked safe when they are not in use so that they will not be damaged (or worse) while not being used.

lord patton ...lol ... Apple should give you a free one anyway ... with the Apple logo showing through like that ... your machine deserves to be famous and belongs in an Apple commercial

cut the poor guy some slack, he is probably getting the 3rd degree from his girlfriend about this.

good luck, I would wait a bit and see if it gets worse.
Haha she thought I was mad at her and got really scared I was going to do something cuz she knows I love this laptop... But it was all just accidental and I'm forgiving
Does the top of the lid show any depressions? What about the front of the display?

If there are no physical marks (apart from the screen itself, you can try to take it in to the Apple Store and see if they'll replace it. Feint ignorance. I'm not telling you to lie, just don't tell them you stepped on it—say you won't know). If you want to be tell them to blatantly, that's you're call.

Sure the Genius might say it had to have been caused by pressure or whatever, but they can still chose to fix it at no cost to you. So if you get a nice Genius, you can get it fixed for free. If they want to charge you can decline it and also request that they don't document the issue. I do that all the time.
That's exactly what I was thinking in my mind... Thanks for assuring me that I could probably pull this off... When I was online I also saw that something similar occurs naturally... I have just over 4 months left on warranty so I'm hoping for the best.

EDIT: and no. No part of the body shows any physical damage. I'm hoping it goes well... I'll be going on Wednesday so I'll let everybody know how it went!
Where did you get your wallpaper from? Link please!
Absolutely! It's gorgeous isn't it? So clean!

I put my MB on the floor by my bed too, but I set it on my rug and fully slide the MB under my bed. I mean sheesh who places it right where they first step in the morning?

My dog just stomp and jump on my MacBook Pro today...

wait.. I dont have a dog.

That is still lying.

But if you want to lie, go for it. They already charge way too much for their computers anyway.

$1,200 I'd expect them to do whatever I want for a year on their warranty...

Here is an ingenious idea that almost got me a free replacement screen after I applied pressure to the screen, resulting in a blotch like yours... They didn't replace it because they found water damage on the bottom of the logic board (oops, my fault lol)... But it makes you wonder why they took out the logic board for a screen replacement...

Anyway... lol... Tell the genius bar that you just started using it in clamshell mode, with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. After I (you) started doing some heavy video rendering, the computer got hot. But, I (you) thought nothing of it. When I (you) went to use my computer as a laptop the next day, I found this blotch on the screen. I (you) think the heat is related to the blotch. But, in my case (me not you), it was partially true... I had actually just started using it in clamshell mode, and thought I could use this as an excuse.

Edit: also, it would be better if we could get a real picture of the screen, not a photoshopped image...

The guy was nice... Not very talkative but he realised it was an accident... Knew it was a bruise on the LCD, he looked at my whole laptop and saw that I keep in it great shape (no scratches, etc). So he's replacing it for free :)

I get my buddy back tomorrow sometime possibly Friday.

Oh :apple: how I love thee ;) :p

Go to the Apple store and hopefully you get a nice Genius that will replace it for free :)

very happy with how it went... Didn't really need to lie cuz he knew what was up but he knew however it happened it was an accident because I've had that laptop 8 months and it looks like it's FOB.
