I think you missed the joke. Doesn't matter that the other products don't have sensors in them - Apple for the longest time was releasing white computers, white peripherals, white everything - before the transition to aluminum unibodies of course - while all the PC manufacturers were going with black/beige. Now all of a sudden they can't get one of their flagship products to come out properly in white.

No I understand the attempted knock on Apple's delay but how do the sensors not matter when the sensors are possibly the biggest reason why the white iPhone was delayed? That's what the :confused: was for. The attempted joke doesn't really work when you say the sensors don't matter when they're practically all that mattered.

lol I know how to take jokes, and this forum is a very funny place (I'm really not being sarcastic with that), but that joke just doesn't make much sense

So that's why the proximity sensor was redesigned? Now Apple's iPhone 4 comes with too many different designs.

White

I don't get it... They made white iMacs and Macbooks for years. The top of my Mac Mini is also white. So was the original iPod.

Now for some reason it's a huge challenge for them to make something white? :confused:

Plastic =/= glass

But you know, for all this company's faults - which, I don't think are as many as most - they certainly are dead set on releasing products that are as perfect as possible.

I just have to wonder about the other mobile device manufacturers, if they even put a quarter's worth of effort and attention to their products as Apple does. I can just imagine the CEO of HTC saying, "slap some white on that EVO and call it a day."

Haha well don't diss HTC thaaat much...I'm stuck with one since my parents love sprint :/

since HTC's sales are growing faster than Apple, i don't think they care

That problem gets even worse if the white paint starts to yellow; with a worsening state of yellowing over time, those sensors aren't going to work properly ever again.

I assume part of the new process is some way to ensure the phone stays white.

Give the man a cookie!

The primary reason for the delay was discoloring issues and not being able to find a suitable finish for the glass. The sensors and those kind of issues were fixed a long time ago but just not the discoloring.

So for all those complaining, you could of had a white phone last year however it would of been a lighter shade of orange by now or you have had to wait until now to have one which will stay white, which would you prefer?

For all those say Macbooks, iPad2s are white so what the issue? Well they aren't coating glass ...
