Well it's available in the UK iBooks store now but I'll have to wait a few days for my hardback from Amazon.

ok if you pre-ordered it on iBooks, shouldn't it download automatically at midnight? It changed from pre-order now to buy now, but it's not automatically downloaded. i can see it in my pre-orders list, surely it should at least have the iTunes in the Cloud logo to re-download?

I found a copy available at a Wal-Mart in Missouri....when I tried to purchase it yesterday, the cash register beeped and would not allow them to sell it to me. Aw well, I got to preview the chapters and read a bit while I was in the store.

Can't wait to get this tonight!

Amazon preorder for the hard copy shows its supposed to ship tomorrow. I might buy the iBooks version and get started reading it earlier.

I actually feel enthusiastic about this whole textbooks idea. I work as a researcher so my relationship with textbooks will continue all my life. I look forward to new ways we are going to acquire and read textbooks. Hope Jobs wasn't simply referring to elementary level stuff.

I have to assume that's the case -- for at least the last decade, Apple's main focus within the educational sector has been on post-secondary.

If Steve Jobs had not left Apple he would not have started NeXT. Without NeXT there would be no OS X. Apple may have been forced to stick with OS9 that had many problems. One can predict what would have happened, but if Steve had stayed at Apple, Apple to day would be quite different.

You're forgetting Be Inc. Actually, OS X could be quite a different beast if Steve had stayed at Apple and never founded NeXT. Be Inc. would probably have been picked up by Apple to replace Classic MacOS if anything (which would not be a bad thing, BeOS was quite capable, heck, it trounced anything at multi-threading and multimedia performance).

However, it's still doubtful Steve would have acquired the necessary experience to make the come back he did and thus we don't know.

But you know what they say about the path not taken.

I ordered mine on Amazon, i like a hard copy for books i actually want to read. I ordered mine a bit late but my estimated delivery date is 27th-31st . Hopefully i get it as fast was possible i can't wait to read it:D:D

With movies, Amazon has it to me on the release day or the day before... I wonder why they didn't do that this time. I haven't got a shipped email from them so I'm doubting it's gonna be here tomorrow.

BTW, where's my digital download of the book to compliment my hardcover? :p

Conflict of Interest Much??

Sheesh, whatever happened to the concept of conflict of interest? NY Times should not be reviewing a book by one of it's own writers.

How much was it at Walmart?

Despite the official release date, many copies have already started circulating. The image on the right is from a book delivery from late last week (thanks Ernest).

That sucks. I preordered and have to wait until 26-27:(

I would cancel my Amazon order if I could get it at Walmart for around the same price I could get it on Amazon for around $20

It will be $24.50. Below is a photo of how close I was to having the book a bit early...

By the way, I think that original picture on the MacRumors homepage is a fake. The cover is definitely glossy- the picture that user posted certainly looks like a matte finish. Just sayin'! Haha

Do you know how much the book with be at barnes and noble if I go into the store to purchase it?

UK here, so had it downloaded a couple of hours.

From what I've read so far, it's beautifully written, balanced, honest and heartfelt. Every bit as good as advertised, and then some.

Strikes me (having dipped into the later sections) that Steve was much more ill for much longer than many thought.

I hope he rests in peace - this book seems the perfect biography for him to have left.

Opened the Kindle app on my iPad and this was waiting for me. Two hours early, but I'm not really complaining...
