So, I guess my iphone which is not 10" is worthless too. Since it also doesn't come with sandpaper to file down my thumbs, which are bigger than my fingers.

Funny comment, but doesn't actually ring true if you ask me.

I was wondering why everyone was attempting a 7" tablet. This seems to be a popular number for the manufacturers that are coming out with new models in the upcoming year. It seems like they were thinking "smaller is better"

Could you imagine running something like Numbers or Pages under 7" - not going to happen. If this trend picks up, we're going to have a lot more people wearing glasses because of their faces pressed up to the screen.

I used to have the Nokia 810 tablet which was 4.13" - found it way too cramped and hard to read text in the browser. You also have to zoom in and out and scroll side to side to see various areas of a page because the text was so small. I spent more time being frustrated.

I just picked up the iPad and I'm amazed at how user-friendly this thing is. The price is pretty high but darn... having this much room to read on a tablet somehow makes my brain feel like its in a zen-like state.

A 7" tablet SHOULD run at the exact same resolution at the 10" iPad - 1024 x 768. That way developers wouldn't have to developer a third size. If the iPhone 4 can run 960 x 640 they can squeeze 1024 x 768 on a 7".

If you make every word in the sentence bold it actually makes the words have less emphasis. It's the same thing as making the entire post in caps or without punctuation. Logic...

Back on topic:

I'm not for the 7" tablet myself. It would just add another layer of complexity that would ultimately confuse the average user. I would rather see the resolution improve on the next one, but it would have to double for it work correctly and that I don't believe will happen with a $499 price tag.

One size does not fit all

Well, guess I can stop waiting for Apple to produce a tablet that I want and look at alternatives.

I find it interesting that some people act like there is something wrong with those who would like Apple to produce something that it doesn't. Like a smaller tablet or a height-adjustable display with a matte screen.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a 7" tablet from Apple in the near future. It wasn't long ago that Steve Jobs himself doubted the futrue of tablet PCs. Now Apple is dominating a new market of tablets.

To those who think Apple will come out with a 7" after what Steve said today, you need to listen to the conference call. He was pretty adamant on the topic.

He gave a good speech today. Very entertaining.

I wanted a 7" oh well guess it's time to look for something else...

If I want ultimate portability and an itty-bitty screen space, I have my iPhone. The iPad is for home browsing/email/games. My desktop is for my serious work. 7" makes no sense.

I want the ultimate in portability without the itty-bitty, too small to read text on, iPhone screen.

A properly scaled up iPhone would offer significant workflow and readability enhancements while still fitting in my coat pocket.

I will never have any use for a 10" device. It's too big to carry everywhere, but too small and gutless to replace a real computer at home.

I believe Steve is just blowing smoke like he's done so many times before. He knows there's a big market for a more capable go-everywhere device, but they haven't got one ready to ship yet so he had to silence the rumours.

It was just about time for people to stop creating those absurd threads about speculations on when will the 7'' iPad be released, once again, thats not only hardware, the software would be different so developers of over 300,000 apps would have to work on once again changing their apps for the 'new' iPad.

I'd laugh if Samsung sold 3 million galaxy tabs in the first month.

But if Steve says they'll be DOA they will be (just like the iMac's).

Obviously that was a pun of the connotations, infered by the reader, of the acronym DOA (just in case anyone says: "Steve means that the 7 inches won't catch on...")

I like the Tab from seeing the youtube videos but the pricing I've seen will keep people from buying them, that and tied to a carrier

Steve Jobs also said...

Steve Jobs also said no one would want to watch movies on a tiny screen. Expect Apple's 7" tablet within 12 months.

He was pretty adamant about not producing an iPod with video playback capabilities too. He claimed that nobody wanted to watch video on such a small screen.

Steve had to quash the rumours because Apple doesn't currently have a device between 3.5" and 9.7" that they consider ready for shipment.

When they get the iNotePad finished I'll be first in line to buy one. In the meantime I see nothing in the current iOS lineup for me.

Thank you Steve Jobs!

7" tablet just doesn't make sense to me. All the people I have seen who have used the BB Playbook said the apps seem cramped. Totally agree, 10" minimum just seems logical.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

This only means one thing that the 7" will available maybe after 1 year. We all know that SJ will say something to silence people. He already did this a couple of times in the past. Although I agree with him that 7" is too small and I'm not looking forward to it. It should be 10" and if you want small and pocketable get an iPod or iPhone. But I still do believe that 7" will be coming. Of course Steve Jobs will say it's not gonna happen!

Because 7" enables them to differentiate from iPad (just as many Android phones have 4" or larger screen).

A stylus is remarkably uncomfortable unless you are used to having a pen in your hand.

A stylus is also a stupid appendage; you are using something pointed because you haven't got fingers? The pointing device is already attached to your body so why add something to it?

Here's how it goes.

1. Jobs trashes a particular product type.

2. Said product type sells moderately well.

3. Jobs unveils Apple's version of said product with a few key differences, it's obvious the product has been in R&D for some time, even before Jobs trashed it.

4. Apple's version of the product sells by the boatload.

Sounds to me like Apple has given up on resolution independence.

Personally, I would look forward to having a 7" tablet (at half the weight of an iPad) to keep by my bed for midnight web surfing. 10" is too big, and 3.5" is too small for this purpose.

All sizes have their places for different people.

With all the competition bringing out 7" tablets, did you really expect Steve to boast about how perfect 7" screens are? To me, the current ipad is simply too big... a 7" ipad really would be the perfect balance between screen size and portability.

Not to mention that Steve's logic makes no sense whatsoever... a 7" screen is too small for a touchscreen device, yet the 3.5" on the iphone/ipod touch is somehow not too small???? I think the millions of iphones/ipod touches sold thus far is a testament that 7" is not too small for a tablet device, especially one running a mobile OS like iOS or Android. I would agree with 7" being too small if the device is running Mac OSX or some other desktop OS with multiple applications and windows open simultaneously... but this isnt what we're talking about here.

Is anyone else confused about the logic?

EDIT: Sorry, the iphone's screen is 3.5", not 3.7" as i had originally thought

A possible 7" iPad never caught my attention

After owning an iPad since July, I can say that it has the perfect size.

Maybe Apple will release a 7" iPod Touch instead???
