Well maybe I may be wrong about Jobs.... but it's not about the personality; it's about the "apple culture". Looking at the restrictions on iphone --an awful but irreplaceable battery being a typical example -- I can foresee the iphone suffering the fate of the mac if another 'microsoft' competitor with more proactive marketing drive pops up from somewhere

Looking at Apple's stock price I'd say that their culture is working pretty well. As far as the pros/cons of the iPhone, I think you will find that many people like the device quite well, and if you don't like it then you should pursue other options.

No worries.

The iPhone is not for everyone. No big deal.

Good luck selling your iPhone. :)

Well my point is that Apple should be up and doing and listen to the complaints of we the consumers. I've been lucky to get a legally unlocked iphone 3g that has no physical defects (though the least said about the battery the better) and no at&t crap; but the iphone, with all it's coolness, still leaves much to be desired as a phone. If apple doesn't sit up, there will be a microsoft somewhere that will capitalise on the short comings of the iphone and come out with something that will end-up screwing up we poor consumers even more.

There already is a Microsoft in the SmartPhone arena. They are called Microsoft.

Also, there is RIM, Nokia, Palm.... There is plenty of choice. That the iPhone has managed to grab a huge chuck of the market, almost overnight.

No because there is no phone better than the iPhone, however much you wish to admit it. It has the best interface, the best OS, the best software repository, and the best price. Because it does not have a feature that you want, you assume others care as well. 99% of people who bought the phone could not care less about the battery, or MMS.

I would present my statement replying to this thread with explainable reasons of why you're wrong and such, but that would just be BSing around.
Straight up- Mac and iPhone, you can't top this s**t.
Don't like it?
Ok. Don't b**ch. Just go get something else.

I agree. Having all that freedom to choose between WinMo, Symbian, iPhone, RIM, etc. really sucks for us consumers. Apple should make sure the iPhone does everything and does it perfectly or we consumers will be forced to choose from the many other phone options out there. Poor us!

Very true. I used to sommmewhat give a crap about its battery and no MMS, but I quickly got over it.

How Much for the Junkie iPhone?

Looking at the barrage of complaints and some very very basic phone features that the iphone lacks, I bet Steve Jobs will definitely screw up the iphone like the way he screwed up the mac...

After fondling with my iphone 3g for a few days the novelty has died down, and now I just want a smart phone that works!! I'll be listing on ebay soon

If you dislike it that much, what are you willing to sell it for? 8 or 16 gb? black or white? Your post indicates that you know it's something of little value so why not sell it to one of us that will enjoy at a big discount?

No one cares. diaf.

easy now, i live in louisiana and i know a bunch of people who would be pretty pissed if you took that title from us...

Aloha txr0ckabilly,

No to get too far off topic, he's completely missing the point that the infamous butterfly ballot used in my home state of Florida in the 2000 presidential election was approved by a Democrat, and the only voters who had any problems with said butterfly ballot were Democrat voters. Therefore, if he really wants to take your state's title, he really shouldn't apply it to all those in Florida, but simply the Democrat voters, who obviously can NOT read the English language. I really don't think your state wants to be seen as worse than those Democrat voters in Florida. "It's #2, it's always #2. Democrat's always #2" - remember that guy?!? I guess he also neglected to remember that President Bush was also re-elected four years ago. Of course, that time his guy quit when he wasn't too far behind - at least he didn't drag the USA through the mud in the court system like Al Bore uhhh Gore.

I love my mac and I love my iPhone, they enhance my work and life hugely, and I am so grateful they exist, if you don't like them then I just don't know what must be going wrong for you.

I don't need 6500+ before I can speak my mind. I may be wrong about him, but that's my opinion and I'm entitled to it...:)

You are indeed entitled to your opinion, because like *******s we all have one.
However, your comments weren't stated as opinion, rather they were attacks on a man who you have decided screwed up two popular items in their lineup. That, combined with your "newbie" status, simply screams troll. You leave a lot to be desired when you make statements with no backup whatsoever. You come off as angry and childish. Had you formulated an opinion based on personal experience or just personal observation you'll likely see that you're attacked all the same by the "fans" of Apple, but you'll also find a few people that may engage in conversation with you regarding your opinions.

As for me, I believe that the new problems iPhone and the software being rolled out is getting old fast. Additionally, being a 1st gen owner of the iPhone, somehow Apple (not Jobs himself) have managed to take a fully functional and virtually bug-free device from me by rolling out updates that hinder performance. I am not forced to update, but if I wanted to use some new features I certainly had to take the plunge. That said, I believe that Apple is pushing to do things a bit too fast around here and perhaps delaying certain products and rolling them out right is better than being first.

For the iMac, I can't speak much about it as I've never owned one myself, but I believe Apple is doing ok with them. There are and will always be problems with computers. These are complicated electronic machines that may not always be perfect at any price.

Screw up the iPhone like he screwed up the Mac? One can only hope...

SJ Returns to Apple -

In 1996, Michael Spindler was replaced by Gil Amelio as CEO. Gil Amelio made many changes at Apple, including massive layoffs. [43] After multiple failed attempts to improve Mac OS, first with the Taligent project, then later with Copland and Gershwin, Amelio chose to purchase NeXT and its NeXTSTEP operating system, bringing Steve Jobs back to Apple as an advisor. [44] On July 9, 1997, Gil Amelio was ousted by the board of directors after overseeing a three-year record-low stock price and crippling financial losses. Jobs became the interim CEO and began restructuring the company's product line.

Present -
Delivering his keynote at Macworld on January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs announced that Apple Computer, Inc. would from that point on be known as Apple Inc. The event also saw the announcement of the iPhone and the Apple TV.[70] The following day, Apple shares hit US$97.80, an all-time high. In May, Apple's share price passed the US$100 mark. [71]

On February 7, 2007, Apple indicated that it would sell music on the iTunes Store without DRM (which would allow tracks to be played on third-party players) if record labels would agree to drop the technology. [72] On April 2, 2007, Apple and EMI jointly announced the removal of DRM technology from EMI's catalog in the iTunes Store, effective in May. [73]

On July 11, 2008, Apple launched the App Store to sell third-party applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. [74] Within a month, the store sold 60 million applications and brought in US$1 million daily on average, with Steve Jobs speculating that the App Store could become a billion-dollar business for Apple. [75] On August 13, 2008, Apple's market cap surpassed Google's.[76]

I'm sure all the stockholders are calling for his head....

I would be willing to bet that Apple is doing just this.

Just look at the improvements from the first iPhone. And I am sure we will see improvements with the next version as well.

In that case I sure hope Steve Jobs will continue "screwing up" the iPhone and Mac for as long as possible.

if the full openness of the mobile phone software platform is what you're talking about, alternatives exist even before the introduction of the iphone. windows mobile was there long before and it has all the features you're probably thinking of-say shutting down an app manually with "task manager". but then the market leader was rim, which by no means is an "open" platform. if you want a mobile phone that does all these, i can tell you now that the software is bound to fail. only so limited processing power can be exploited and designers are always concerned about the battery life. with this limited computing resources, running the full version of your favourite windows vista on a mobile device is just like hooking it up to a pentium 3 computer. it would be unbearably slow... but hey, think about it in this way, we've come all the way to this point, which a mobile computer, really, now has got the same processing power as a full-size computer several years ago but only a fraction of its physical size, and a fraction of its power consumption. try to be thankful instead of day dreaming about installing windows vista on your iphone, it just won't work! doing several things at best is better than doing everything but screwing them all up.

Feeding the trolls = Arguing with opinions. That will go on forever.

Everyone here is mostly just posting facts. That's pretty much the best thing you can do. They say "x" and everyone says "no, actually it's y"

And then there's not much else to say on either side at that point.

Trolls reply to anything.
