Pretty certain he already left instructions for the next 10 years. I'm not trying to exaggerate. That's the kind of visionary he was.

So I wake up to another 20 pages here, and it remains very emotional to read a lot of the comments, clearly we're all right there together.

On this in particular, we may see for the first time ever just how long the development cycle is on this stuff, and for how long there is still the hint of his involvement in whatever new products we can't even imagine yet but will take for granted over the next decade. I really hope it goes that far. And I hope enough traces of the distortion field remain in the atmosphere to make us all just go and buy them.

Warren Buffett and Bill Gates asks Steve jobs to give away wealth, he declined...
Despite accumulating an estimated $8.3 billion fortune through his holdings in Apple and a 7.4 percent stake in Disney (through the sale of Pixar), there is no public record of Jobs giving money to charity. He is not a member of the Giving Pledge, the organization founded by Warren E Buffett and Bill Gates to persuade the nation's wealthiest families to pledge to give away at least half their fortunes. (He declined to participate, according to people briefed on the matter.) Nor is there a hospital wing or an academic building with his name on it.
Not taking away anything from Steve, but he was just that, a creative innovator and business man. There's a fine line between Steve and Bill

So what though ?

Steve through his technology will save more lives and transform more lives of the young, the sick, the disabled and other groups than donations that will more often than not be swallowed up in adminstration, private jet hire for charity executives and lavish offices, Steve through iPad is transforming education and healthcare over the coming years, the iPad and iPhone are helping the blind, what Steve is bringing to the table is much better than simple charitable donations.

i agree with CWT, and just because they are not on public record, does not mean he did not donate. only time will tell.

but like CWT stated, his work alone is an immeasurable donation.

A man who improved the human condition while still being human

Sad day...

I never thought I would be this sad about someone I never met but Steve jobs is in allot of people’s hearts who he never met but gave a better life. I will get my IPOD out tonight and play some Dylan and pray for for Steve Jobs and his family.
Rest in Peace

My first apple product was in 2001 with the iPod. Since that point I have only owned Apple products. Steve really changed the way I use tech in every facet of my life, he also made computers so easy for my parents to use. Thanks Steve you will certainly be missed......:apple:

This is true, some people do donate anonymously. The Freemasons for example donor to a lot of organizations, but they do not seek the attention of the masses. This is why you won´t notice nor hear anything about it.

Just trying to put this into perspective here, all we know is that he did not donate in public.

“Be careful not to practice your righteousness in front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
“So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

Matthew 6:1-4

Moral of the story : You dont give money or whichever resource is needed by those in need to be applauded. Do it in silence, it should not make you any difference. Steve really wouldn't care less if there was a wing or building named in his honour. Buildings will crumble or have their names changed, but his legacy, his ideas will last forever.

I already replied earlier, but I went over to my local Apple Store today... people are leaving post-it notes up on the window

My first apple product was the macintosh, and been using apple products ever since, even named my black Labrador mac! Can't believe he's gone, so young and had so much more to give us I'm sure :apple:

I do hope that the funeral is televised like the funeral is for presidents and other similar figures, Michael Jackson's funeral was televised so they should certainly do the same for Steve, he was the most iconic American figure of the 21st century.

Don't you think that should be up to the family? Perhaps his family would like something a little less like a media circus.

Dignity. Privacy. Respect.

Forgive them if they may not be concerned about YOUR needs at this moment.

The family will decide. Personally, I hope they keep it private.

People starving in the middle of a barren desert don't have many use of an iGadget. They need food, water and medicine. Not an iPad. Don't try to play down what others do please.

If there is not a large scale funeral for Steve at the very least I hope there will be some public memorial service for his fans to remember his life, I live in the UK but I would certainly fly over for such an event.

I don't know too much about buddhism and buddhist funerals but I hope at some point the public will get a chance to say goodbye

The world has lost an einstein. I don't think we'll begin to fully understand the influence this man has had on culture, communication, and business the world over for some time.

RIP Steve Jobs

You were and will continue to be one of the biggest sources of inspiration for our generation, and generations to come.

We will miss you.

I can't believe he's gone too, and it is sad that he passed away. I don't know about you guys but he was a great man and did a lot in his life but after all he is just a man. Maybe a man that changed the way we live our lives but still just a CEO of a company that made revolutionary products. I don't want this to sound like I don't care but I knew when I saw him at the last keynote and then a couple months later resigning from the CEO position I knew something was up and it wasn't good.

I hate to say but when someone starts getting thin and stays as thing as he got there is some serious medical problems you are having. With all the health problems and medical leaves of absense he's taken its just been a matter of time that this would happen. I'm surprised people are in shock

Well meaning though they are I fail to see what Gates and Buffett are doing is going to save many lives in Africa, money can't magically produce food, money can't magically stop drought, money can't magically oust corrupt dictators that are living in luxury while their people starve, I don't want to get into a big charity debate and how do you know Steve isn't going to leave money in his will to charity ? no one knows that but Steve's work in the technology sector will save lives and transform lives, maybe not in Sudan and Ethiopia but they will save and transform lives.

Steve Jobs 1955-2011 Rest In Peace

As I write this in front of my magnificent 27" quad-core i7 iMac, waiting anxiously for the day I can order my iPhone 4s, I am reminded of how much Steve Jobs has changed everybody's lives for the better. I remember when one of my friends in university had the first Macintosh computer I'd ever seen back in 1985, and thinking what an awesome little device that was; absolutely amazed at the print quality and the beautiful fonts. I had only ever seen Apple IIe's in businesses and schools and the like at that time. I believed in Apple when I left the agony of Windows and bought my first Apple dual-processor 450 back in 1999, when they were teetering on the brink of bankruptcy. Everybody said I was crazy, Windows 98 was the greatest thing, Apple was going to die, etc. But I believed in Steve, and his products, and his company. After owning one for a while, you become an evangelist for the brand; it's just automatic. Few things you ever buy in your life are this good.

I remember the skepticism when he brought out the iPod; people would say "What would you want one of those for?" I said it. Until you tried one; then you HAD to have one. And he did the same with the iPhone, and the iPad ('Why would anyone want a gigantic iPhone?'). And then you tried one, and you got it. But Steve had a vision about these products and what they meant LONG before we knew we needed them. He envisioned all this stuff YEARS ago; it just took this long for technology, and for US, to catch up.

Today is a very sad day for all of humanity, as the world has lost one of our greatest inventors and innovators; he is right up there with Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison in my mind, perhaps even eclipsing them. Steve Jobs was THE greatest innovator in history; the phenomenal success of all of his companies verifies that belief.

I believed in Apple long before it was fashionable, just like Steve himself did; I'll continue to believe in it until I've gone to join him. Steve Jobs passion and dedication to excellence engendered this kind of faithfulness in his employees, in his co-workers, his company executives, and even in his consumers like me. I shall miss him very much, as will our entire planet. And I will love using his magical products for the rest of my days, for sure.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends, which, judging by the HUGE outpouring of collective grief at the passing of one of our heroes, is pretty much all of us.

Sincerely,
Cameron Hood
