There is a thing called boArd of directors. There is no way this would ever happen.

Steve Jobs can just basically make product decisions at Apple. If you're the smartest man of a board of directors, you're the CEO and you're a well known figure like Steve Jobs, you could go into work tomorrow and be fired in a flash.

yeah, it's a public company. Jobs can go off the deep end and the board of directors can send him packing. It happened before, it can happen again.

I mean I understand it cannot realistically happen, but him leaving would almost be the same thing, wouldn't it? We saw him leave before and where did the company go? Maybe he made the company rely on him so much that the board really can't do much about him at this point.

Apple doesn't need Jobs anymore. He's long overdue to be removed.

At this point he's a liability more than anything else.

Well that's a bad thing then. Based on your statement, if one of old Stevo's "magical" products is not a clone of himself, Apple's future looks dim as Stevo can't live forever.

I doubt it. A certain percentage would follow Jobs to the gates of Hell, just like last time he got the heave-ho, but it would be an inconsequential number of people, I'm sure. I also doubt the company would be as blatantly stupid as they were last time when John Sculley took Jobs' position. He didn't care about quality, he didn't care about looks, he didn't care about image, it was all about money, money money. He grossly overreached and the company paid a heavy price for it. Jobs might be fine doing whatever it is he does but it's pretty obvious to me that he shouldn't be communicating with anyone outside of Apple any longer.

This is true! At least I can get the Wonka scenario out of my head! All hope might not be lost if he got the boot. Although I think that would shake Apple to the core (pun intended?) and would be a very difficult first few months for them at first

I don't even know if that's true. Apple has a ton of cash, it can afford top talent. Listen to what people talk about in an Apple store sometime, too. No one talks about Jobs. As long as the products are "cool", people will buy them just as they do now, and Jobs doesn't have any kind of monopoly on "cool". For anyone in an Apple store cares, you or I could be CEO of Apple.

I don't see this mess costing Jobs his position. There is something to be said for "It's just a phone" and it's not like Apple stock has plummeted yet, but I can easily imagine that people won't be receiving replies from Jobs any more. I maintain that had Jobs replied like someone that gives a damn, these problems wouldn't have exploded like they did.

The sickening thing about this is he could only have $30 million for the rest of his life and be more than comfortable. The rest he could spend improving inner cities, keeping heat on at poor peoples house. Maybe even help out some third world countries. F the super rich, they could lose all their money and I wouldn't shed a tear.

If you put the stock price in perspective from June 8th (the day of iP4 announcement) to today, the share is still up more than $8.

ahh logic.

As someone pointed out, this money isn't lost unless it's sold. In fact, tomorrow morning would be a good time to buy, and if he does, he will be "up" even more.

Class envy much?

Since you do, please tell us. :)

Interesting.

Something tells me that you might have some issues. Just saying.

Stocks generally follow the rest of the market unless there's a reason. The Dow and S&P have both gone up the past two days with both indicies going up about 1.5% today. AAPL has gone down both days with a decent down day today. This kind of divergence usually isn't a good sign and the Consumer Reports article is the easiest culprit to point the finger at.

I'm going to make a wild guess that AAPL will be trading at or below $225 by the end of next week.

since he's a majority stock holder he has a pretty big vote on who gets on the board, i doubt he'll be going anywhere

I think you have your answer. Does anyone here actually invest in AAPL? Just curious....

Yes we do
"There is no such thing as bad publicity"
sure it's a shame about the ip4 issues but which other phone is getting this much media coverage?

we know many people that despite the issues have bought the ip4

Wow what a statement! pity you are so wrong, Apple would not be the company they are today if it was not for this man, and if you really hate him and Apple that much why are you here in MR?

This isn't far-fetched.
He has more money than he ever needs. He has every accolade obtainable.
There is not more he can really do with Apple. To him, Apple is just a hobby- a way to spend the day. How much bigger can Apple or Jobs be?

He has had a life-altering illness... he almost died. His life-span is reduced now that he has a transplant.

I don't think it is too far fetched to think that a man in his position would shut things down or even leave Apple to do something else... maybe even (gasp!) charitable, like Bill Gates.

You sound like a 70 year old.

To him, Apple is just a hobby- a way to spend the day.

Yep, you have no idea what you are talking about.

Steve Jobs also owns Disney shares (DIS). It was up about 2%.

This.

Have you guys heard of a diversified portfolio?

Steve Jobs has more than AAPL stock. He probably has an elite team of high profile, expensive investment consultants that constantly tweak his portfolio.

I'm sure it's just billions. :)

Never know until they report their earnings I guess, which this should be one of their most profitable quarters...maybe.

@aggie -- Probably.

Not if there's a huge charge in response to a recall...
