"its unbelievable that people enjoy throwing their paychecks away just because the ceo of some company told you to do so. I guess you would follow your leader off a financial cliff too. Why dont you have a mac pro with 12 cores? i dont think you've thrown away enough money yet"

No, really, what IS this stuff?

Put "G53JW-A1" into your favorite search engine....

It's a laptop that outperforms a quad Mac Pro, for considerably less money.

Ahh, how nice to see the peanut gallery have their talking points all synched up. Yeah, right... “shiny”.

It's actually a bit crowded in the peanut gallery. ;)

"Jobs is a master of using pricing decoys, reference prices, bundling and obscurity to make you think his shiny aluminum toys are a good deal." ... The communication breakthroughs are mostly an illusion, but with shiny aluminum in our hands, who cares what it costs?"

(actually an interesting article about the pricing for Itoys -as)

And exactly what impact has Julian Assange had on anything? Has he changed the way diplomacy is conducted? No. Has anyone been charged with a crime or forced to resign because of WikiLeaks? No. Has a ground swell of indignation risen up among the masses? No. Has anything at all been changed? Nope. Assange is a pitiful narcissist with delusions of grandeur. His organization has had no effect whatsoever on the world other than to endanger people's lives. He should be in jail, not on some magazine cover. He hates the U.S. He's a prick.

+1 When he was saving schoolchildren from evil companies dumping toxic waste under a playground all was good. When he started causing international unrest and hurting international relations with almost every country on earth, he crossed the line. Then that business in Sweden...

Do you enjoy trying to impress a bunch of nameless wonders on a worldwide forum?

For one thing, I am English not a yank - unfortunately those lads are over there not out of choice - yes they chose the Job but at the end of the day they are there against their will.

You completely missed my point, I am talking about OUR troops who will not be home for Christmas, who will be spending Christmas day in a little **** hole.

It's people like you that give Apple a bad name, you have never really 'grew up' from being a Mac Cultist, instead you troll the forums WITH you Mac.

For me, I've used Apple products since I was 7 years old - so that's 15 years of knowing what a company is like.

I now run a Apple System of 180 Macs from 2 Xserves on an AD managed network using Extreme Z IP from two File Servers and OD Managed preferences.

To you and many modern day 'Mac' enthusiasts that is all double dutch but what it means I have a passion for not only Apple Products but the effect company has on the computing world.

I don't agree with a few things Apple do but on the whole, I think they are a damn site better than 99% of these corporate monstrosities.

Have a Merry Christmas.

There's a famous quote over here: "A soldier is a murderer!" And fact: Those guys volunteered to "serve their country". I don't care which nationality they are but my compassion with them for not being home on Christmas is close to NIL. So cry me a river...

Glad you own such an impressive system - so does any of these XServes (you know . the ones you can't replace - sorry, couldn't resist) give you an official way to - say - switch carriers on your phone when you travel aboard?

You know, like with every other phone on this planet? Buy a prepaid card and be done?

Yup - Mr Jobs has done aapl stock and me very well this year - so I agree with the decision. Now if next year he can get the stock north of 400 and declare a 3 to 1 split - he will be person of the year in 2011 - at least in my books - Go AAPL

Can you buy an Apple medallion like that? Has Steve ever worn one?

Not that I want one. Just curious.

It's actually a bit crowded in the peanut gallery. ;)

Ugh. You do realize WHY Apple has implemented Aluminum in their products??? Not because it's "shiny" but because (unlike plastic) it's RECYCLABLE. Do you realize why Apple uses GLASS in their products? It's mercury and arsenic free... oh, and it's RECYCLABLE (I love how the "I hate glossy displays" comments have lessened as users realize, oh, glass has better color accuracy and professions use hoods to diminish glare, but no, Apple is EVIL for not using plastic anti-glass displays).

Read up on Apple and the environment. Besides the mounds of information on Apple's stance to diminish the tons of e-waste that IT nerds like us love to buy then throw away, dumping them in third world nations that the mercury, arsenic, plastics and batteries leak into the planet and water table causing cancer and other health concerns to millions. It sickens me that people are more concerned about "cheap", "disposable", "bigger, faster, better" as these childish desires have a greater impact on the planet. The general masses are ignorant to what is really happening.

Read "The Story of Stuff", read the many articles and books on Apple's industrial design and pledge to take electronics into a new era in strides of usage and performance and in building plants and products that lessen the tremondous impact our way of life has on this planet.

So yes, I will pay more for a product that I know is well made, 95% recyclable, and will last me longer than its counterpart (Apple products have a higher resale value than most other systems). Calculating costs, my Mac Pro will last me longer than the two or three plastic boxes I would buy at BestBuy or build from NewEgg, making long term costs pay out in the end. It bugs me to no end when people do not know that "Shiny" has a purpose beyond "selling"...

How quickly people forget the real brains behind the brand, the man with the original vision and engineering expertise.

The iconic Steve Wozniak.

If not for him, Apple would have been just another Silicon Valley Startup that Flared Up and Fizzled.

That said, I _do_ give Steve Jobs a lot of credit. He's the Master Pitchman and Brilliant Marketing Guru, that has resurrected what the prior management nearly killed off, after Jobs was forced out of the company the first time around.

The flip of it, is that he's also the really great guy (when he was younger, before he let the money go to his head) that morphed into the sometimes menacing, always dictatorial, supreme control freak that the zealots bow down to today.

Nonetheless as the posts on this forum validate, it's the almighty dollar that impresses the cult like clan that await his every word, his every move as though their life depended on it. And hey! If that works for them, then all's well in AppleLand.

Celebrate the great consumer electronics company Apple has become, we needed a replacement for Sony anyway... :)

Woz is a good man. His house parties in Los Gatos rocks. He like Pedros in Los Gatos and the Hickroy Pit in Campbell. Meet him, party with him. Very good man!
