Send him to Detroit

I've been a Mac user and promoter since 1985 and I agree with everything "everyone" has to say about him. (good and bad)

At this time I would think that it is obvious that the evil genius of Cupertino needs to be set loose on the American Automobile industry.

I nominate Steve Jobs for CEO of General Motors, and let him do to Toyota automobiles and small trucks, what he did to the Sony Walkman and Smart Phone divisions.

Why would you curse the man to a fate like that? ;)

Toyota is doing its best to ruin itself with GM-like build quality and materials these days. Sad. GM has made impressive strides over the past couple of years. I've always loathed GM products because they were so offensively crummy. I'm not seeing that in the newest models. But long-term reliability and resale value are still suspect. In other words, I'm still sticking to Honda.

But I think VW is the one everyone should watch out for...

And, if it sells lots of magazines to the Apple fans - great publicity stunt for the magazine.

With 90% market share, wouldn't you sell more magazines naming Stinky Ballmer as CEO of the decade?

In this model, is successful, profitable Ford to be Microsoft?

Only if you're going to start trying to sell us Fords... ;)

What? Toyotas are and have been great and are known to last. What world are you living in?

Yes, they have been great and known to last. But the interior quality on my mother-in-law's 1994 Camry was better than the build quality in her 2004 Camry. Her current Camry has a decidedly-GM cheapness to it. I try to pretend it isn't so, but I just can't.

I read a review about the Toyota Venza earlier today and they ripped it apart for shoddy interior build and cheap plastics.

Toyota seems to have made the same mistake as Dell: cheapening their brand for the sake of market share. A real shame as I've always admired Toyota. The new Malibu has better interior quality than the Camry. If you had predicted this 5 years ago I would have laughed in your face. But it's true.

Fortunately Honda seems to be sticking to their standards. For now anyway.

Ah, ok thanks for elaborating. As for interiors, from what I've seen, if your looking for a car under 30,000 cheaper and cheaper interiors seem to be the standard nowadays;)

I loved this one . . .

Damn he looks good! :O

That was a great read thanks for that article. He deserves that. He has changed the computer industry, Music industry and movies. True hero and legend

Hes put a whole shed load of effort into the company, and industry in the last 10-15 years.. he deserves an award of some description.. Good on ya jobs :)

PTP

What planet are you on? Good god he's not mother theresa. He's one of the richest men in the world because of Apple and his other companies. He didn't exactly return the 7,500,000 stock options Apple (il)legally gave him in 2001. He's an amazing businessman but he's not the second coming of christ. Just sayin'. (let the flaming begin)

For most lemmings on this site, he his.... (adding fuel...)

People are actually arguing against Steve Jobs being named CEO of the decade. Un-friggin-believable.

Newsflash.

Lexus = Toyota

Steve Jobs has Revolutionized more than "just" the music, movie industries.

As I said in the Gizmodo Post regarding this:

Steve Jobs re-invented the personal computer (iMac)

Steve Jobs re-invented the Portable Media Player (iPod)

Steve Jobs re-invented the phone.

Steve Jobs re-invented the GUI (with the "help" of Xerox)

Steve Jobs re-invented Industrial Design for Personal Electronics

Steve Jobs re-invented the Computer Retail store

Steve Jobs re-invented Digital Photogarphy/Digital Video Editing

Steve Jobs has been the only person to be worshipped by the people that own his products

Steve Jobs re-invented the Pompous Ass CEO schtick and people still love him for it.

I would say Steve Jobs is the most influential man in the computing/Personal Electronics alive today.

However, Bill Gates is the most important man in computing/internet history though.

Without him, not only would apple not exist (he helped apple by giving it 150 million in exchange for quicktime on the PC), the personal computer revolution would not begin and the inernet revolution would not begin, hell the digital age would not begin I could go on and on... but I think you get the idea.

some pretty cool images in there. Anyone know of any apple history books that have a good collection of these types of images. I think that would be sweet to see a photo history of jobs and the company

All of that is 100% wrong, and a lie. Apple would exist just fine without a few $ from Gates, the personal computer revolution began before Gates had anything to do with it, the internet revolution began without anything to do with Microsoft (they thought it was just a fad), the digital age did just fine without Gates. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. In fact, the personal computing industry would probably have developed farther and faster if Microsoft hadn't become a monopoly and held things back.

That man is really one of the few who have changed the industry. It seems that any idea he has, is gold.

He's up there as most improved business person ever. Zero to Hero. He learned from his mistakes. It seems like there should be a sequel to "Pirates of Silicon Valley".

This Bill vs. Steve debate will go on forever.

Suffice to say high tech has been shaped by both these guys. It's not really fair to say which person did more or was more important. I say a name could be added to the short list of high tech pioneers who changed things, and that would be Woz.

I would rather Bill Gates or other philanthropist though. I prefer people who help others when they are rich rather than those who save their money only for themselves.

Didn't Gates win similar accolades in many other magazines for his work the decade before? I don't think any single person dominated the business press in the 1990s more than Bill Gates.

It's time for somebody else to get the attention. This isn't slamming Bill Gates though, and his story is far from being finished. I think, and hope, he will continue to do good in the world.

That said, he surely isn't doing all of this for the greater good. It's more for his ego than his bank account.

Wow cynicism is thriving.

Relax Steve you are not a greedy cash gloated executive. You are however a self-centred ego maniac.

People do things for reasons other than money and pride.
