We chose killer graphics plus 10 hour battery life over a very small CPU speed increase. Users will see far more performance boost from the speedy graphics.

But Steve Jobs is right though. You have to understand the term "Killer Graphics" in the light of having this GPU in such a small, highly portable 13" device with 10 (!) hours of battery life. Now this is still an awesome deal, if you ask me.

I´ll buy the 13" model soon and will boost its speed by replacing the HD with an SSD myself, once the prices of those drives are dropping to reasonable rates. I´m glad i´ve been waiting until Apple did it´s update, because now you are getting much more (4 Gigabyte Ram Standard, Faster GPU, Faster CPU) for about the same price on the 13" model. The only thing i´m still missing is the 3G Modem, that would have been a dandy addition.

The reason they didn't move to an Intel Core iX on the Macbook Pro 13" is the Intel integrated graphic chipset. The 13" doesn't have a dual graphic chipset setup like the 15" or the 17". On these machine Apple could afford to take the hit with the Intel integrated graphic chipset yet implement a more powerful discrete Nvidia graphic chipset. Having an Intel core iX on the 13" would have implied a more drastic redesign of the motherboard to add a discrete graphic chipset which is most likely an issue due to space constraint and they (rightly so) didn't want to go with only the Intel integrated graphic crap because it would have been a step backward compared to the Nvidia 9400M.
So yes Steve has to spin it positively but really it's only a decision based on technical consideration. Expect future revision of the 13" to fix that maybe when they do a redesign of the unibody enclosure or something along those lines.
Let's be honest. With the pressure on the hardware department to work on the iPad and the next iPhone I wouldn't be surprised if resources have been diverted from the laptops and desktops teams (as per OS X 10.7 resources working instead on the iPhone/iPad OS/SDK).
As many people have said in other threads it's time for Apple to scale and use some of their $50b to recruit/train developers/testers/designers/etc...

I bought a new 13" MBP, the base model released today. Call me an idiot or whatever for settling for C2D. I like it.

Maybe an indication of how long since these came off the manufacturing line, here's a screenshot from CoconutBattery. Don't know how it figures "Age of your Mac", but mine says 6 weeks.

Congrats on your purchase! I am planning one 13" myself, so would be very grateful if you can upload some benchmark results. It would be extremely interesting to compare the latest two 13" generations, especially the graphics.

Thanx in advance!

There's been a lot of disappointment regarding these MBP updates. Does anyone read anything into this? Is the other shoe going to drop? Maybe there are more updates imminent. Hopefully Mac Pros. Or is this just wishful thinking? Would Apple release updates on consecutive days?

Good for you. I was wondering. I don't need a Pro machine, the only reason I'm considering a low end "13 mbp is because from where I am, the price difference between mb & mbp is so small I'm happy to pay the little extra for double RAM, longer battery life and slight bump in speed.

This computer is going to be my desktop replacement, I don't intend to buy another computer until I'm forced to. It will have all my photos, movies, music in it. I will use it for video and photo editing, but amateur work only.

So will there be a conceivable reason for me to regret buying a core2duo? Is there any reason for me to splash out for an i5? or God forbid wait for the next update. What I want to know is 2 years from today will my mbp be obsolete, Apple apologizing profusely saying that the new IceLeopard (or whatever) will not work with core2duo etc. etc. and I have to get a new one....???

Thanks in advance for anyone who can clear this up for me.

I think you have to turn off the turbo option with pong, otherwise the pong moves too fast

Good point - just think how long the battery would last if it was running a 386 SX16Ghz CPU. Sweet - that would really be a A+ update.

And all this time I thought "time machine" was the marketing name for a backup utility not the premise the mac-book range was based on! :p

What a bunch of sad individuals.....if you want a purely performance machine go build your own. You are not pay for the best performing machine when you buy a MAC.

Serious bunch of losers who spend their day complaining about a 13inch laptop they have no intention of buying. How sad is that?

some of u where discussing about 1080p...

am i right if i assume that a 2010 13" macbook pro base model can play back a 1080p video file on a 24" 1920x1080 external monitor without any problems?

anyone knows sth about that?

The next update will be MacBook running solely on graphics card. Go OpenCL!

Did I forget to mention that it will be running an enlarged version of iPhone OS?

Good luck building your own machine in the same size and form. I'd be even sadder if I chose to do what you're suggesting, cause my rig would look like crap.

The battery is nice, but it's 2010 and this thing still has a 1280x800 resolution, a processor tech from 2006 and there's no 3G option.

I'd like to get a small laptop with OSX but there's nothing worth getting ATM.

Need a faster 13" MBP?

I really appreciate the design of my late 2009 13" MBP, it is easy to carry around, easy to use on the train, fits in my camera bag. For any more demanding work such as software development or photo editing I just connect it to a hi-res display. I cannot remember a time when I ever wished that it had a faster processor, or even faster graphics, but I do remember wishing that its lasted longer on battery power (although it is already very good).

My own verdict: Apple have made good decisions for the 13" MBP, I think that it shows that they really consider what people do with their Macs. I suspect that notebook 'Power Users' would be aiming for the 15" and 17" models.

Carl.

Still looking for some input here! It was largely overlooked amidst the arguing :p. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on the forums. I have been a PC user until this point, and have decided to switch to a macbook pro. The issue I am having, is which one?! The laptop will mainly be used for work, which doesn't involve any hardcore photo or video editing software, just being able to have several windows open at once with lag free switching, and possibly running windows at the same time. The issue I am having is which laptop will suit my gaming needs best. Right now I play World of Warcraft on an old pc desktop, with only 1.5 GB of RAM, and 128MB ATI Radeon card. It plays fine on low settings, minus Dalaran where I get 10 fps typically. I'd like to be able to play WoW on my new MBP, with higher settings, not necessarily the best, but a higher FPS would be nice. Also, when StarCraft 2, and maybe Diablo 3 comes out, I'd like to be able to play them; again, not necessarily on high graphics. I am not a hardcore gamer, and have no desire to play and first-person shooters demanding hardware requirements. Also, I have a 24" monitor to hook the laptop up to, so screen size is not an issue. I was originally thinking the 13" MBP would suit my needs, but the upgrade doesn't seem as substantial as the 15" upgrade. I'm confused! Which laptop would best suit my needs in the opinion of you forum posters? I appreciate any advice you have. Thanks!

Yeah, but the 15" gets a minimum of 8 hours of battery life with the discrete graphics on. You would think they would have similar luck with the 13" model if they so chose to.

I wouldn't be surprised if the 13" get updated in 6 months (to match the rest of the Pro line) much like the Aluminum MacBook did.

For those who want a portable game machine to run the new HITS, the Alienware M11x is a great choice !

For those who want a built in quality laptop, big battery life and play sometimes to old games, the MBP 13" is a great choice !

All is about your need :)

I play pretty newish games on my 13'' MacBook Pro, GTA IV, Left 4 Dead 2, The Sims 3 & Modern Warfare two all run perfectly

For all of you who disagree with Steve, you can now voice your discontent through a show of numbers by becoming part of the Facebook group

No crap2duo on the 13 inch Macbook Pro!

You can't criticize Apple here. The C2D is wonderful new technology coupled with a state of the art custom graphic card for only $1,499? After waiting almost 1 year for these amazing and overwhelming updates I don't know what else to say except that it feels like 2008 ;)

I switched in 2008 and bought myself a MBP Santa Rosa, 2.4, 15''. Never regretted this switch, will never come back to crappy Windows.

But calling a laptop "Macbook pro" when it has a Core 2 Duo in it, in 2010... boy, Steve, you take us for complete schmucks, don't ya?

I think Apple got greedier and greedier with years. From what I see, the future is dark. It's about time someone teaches Apple a good lesson in history. Remember Lincoln, Steve! "You can't fool all of the people all the time".

This site has turned into "whining" rumors.com or crybabyrumors.com don't know.

Come on guys/gals get a life, if you don't like a particular product then don't buy it, but it's horrible to see grown-ass people cry like little babies because they disagree with a apple decision. I'm tired of it. This is supposed to be a informative news rumor site, not a rant-rave, i'm on the rag today site.

Mac users are supposed to show some more class, thank you! :D
Otherwise go back to your pcs and windblows and viruses/malware/instablity.

Just my two cents! :D

Does someone know:
- when to expect the first reviews of the new 13" MBP!?
(I imagine that apple delivered them yesterday to some reviewers, and that we should see the first reviews today or tomorrow!? What do you think?)

- how long it will take till the delivery times in Europe (especially Germany) are "normal" (24h) (because right now they are 5(!!!) days)

Thanks!
