a la carte will never happen. The television and movie industry will not fall for that like the music industry did by giving so much control to Apple. Apple redefined how music was purchased, and was basically able to dictate to the industry since they had the lion's share of the market. The video industry wants to control it's content and pricing. Allowing Apple to become the main provider would upset the balance of control. That is why they make separate contracts with Amazon, Apple, Netflix and so on. No one company will get the whole pie, just parts of it. Thus in order to get all of it, the consumer would end up paying more. And that is exactly what the industry wants. So yes, cable tv may slowly fade away, but in the end, streaming will be even more expensive when that does happen. Don't wish for the demise of cable. It will cost you.

bring it already! i've got the money to spend!

feel sorry for sony, lg, samsung etc

btw - why don't you make a car while you're at it. apple together with bmw for example - make a joint venture. they would sell a million the first day to all us apple heads :D

That is no reason to post extracts everyday. Don't ruin the goddamn book:mad:

The only thing "ruining the goddamn book" for you is your lack of ability to not read the posted extracts. :)

It's not as though people are posting spoilers for a sic-fi thriller with a twist ending. Geez.

Or maybe… they ARE!

>>> spoilers below <<<

He dies in the end…

… and is then resurrected in an all aluminum Apple branded chassis.

Forget Skynet. The world must now face the omnipotent genius of iSteve.

Here's what I imagine an Apple TV to look like:

Samsung UE55C9000
http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/tv-audio-video/television/led-tv/UE55C9000ZKXXU-gallery#none

Aluminium front and back, super thin, connections in the base. Hella sexy, hella expensive!

Thats a rather plain looking TV

This one is much more sexy, practically borderless

This is the one that draws crowds into the store - saw it for myself yesterday. If and its a big if, Apple comes to the market then a 55" something like this, would need to be produced.

Prove me wrong, but I just don't think people have the mindset to keep changing TV's
TV's are kept for years and years.
The hardware changes all around them.
Video players, Games consoles, Cable/Sat box's but the screen just stays there and gets these different devices plugged into them.

I really can't see people changing TV's once a year or every two years. I just don't feel people think that way yet.

not really that interesting unless digital downloads become less than physical media.

u know something is wrong when u can get Thor 3D + BD + DVD + Digital Download for 15 € while the Thor iTunes Download itself is 16 € for example lololol

Since these extracts are all over the news and the internet, not only MR... and your self control not to read them is so weak, the only thing you can do to avoid any comment about it is to go and live in cave for some days, away from civilization - no electronics of any kind - have amazon deliver it there, and don't come back until you finish reading it.... :D

But seriously dude... relax.

cheers!

Agreed. ITV here in the UK is huge there is no way Apple can use this name.

I thought that was why they called it TV in the first place. Could be wrong.

Personally I'm happy with my 56" Panasonic + Blu Ray player and Sky Plus. As much as I despise Rupert Murdoch, it's hard to find fault with the simplicity of Sky Plus… it certainly changed my viewing habits.

Also, if TV relied on a fast, reliable internet connection, I'll pass.

about Blu ray

No, there would be no blu-ray. With iCloud and iTunes moving to 1080 there would be no need. Steve Jobs was not fond of disks and cables, think wireless n and airplay in and out.

TV sets complicated? That's new to me. Yes, if you have 3 pieces of equipment to start a universal remote with touch screen comes in handy. But complicated? And the remark of cable operators being in total control strikes me as odd. Apple wants to be in total control as well, and they're doing a fine job at it. It's about the business model, even more money has to be generated although I'm fathomed why. They already have so much in cash they don't know what to do with it

Total control argument is best read as: Other actors will prevent us from taking total control ourselves, so we won't bother. Then again, even if i dislike the total control mode, its understandable. If all they can offer is a TV, with some limited store functionality, whats the point? Sure, they could earn a few bucks given the Apple hype were experiencing, but thats about it.

Except Song, LG and Samsung would provide the panels. making more money then they would if they sold the damn thing themselves!

Please stop spoiling the book, or there will not be much left to read now is there???

I did not realise someone has taped your eyelids open and was forcing you at gunpoint to read all these small articles taken from the book :D

Glad I'm not in that position and I can choose not to read the articles so I will enjoy the book. ;)

bring it already! i've got the money to spend!

Congratulations. Why not do something useful with it instead?

feel sorry for sony, lg, samsung etc

Yeah, your sympathy is just oozing out of the page...

I can't tell if you're serious or not. Apple would have to hire a whole new department (billions of dollars worth)... as they know nothing about car manufacturing. Plus then they'd need production sites. This makes no sense.

And no, they wouldn't "Sell a million to 'us Apple heads,'" only to those of us with too little brains and too much money.

I have a 65" TV hanging over my (gas) fireplace. It connects via wireless-HDMI to my AV receiver, into which I have connected my Apple TV, a few game consoles, a DVR, and a Mac Mini.

Unless Apple can not only duplicate this functionality but improve upon it as well, I fail to see how an Apple-branded television would be useful. A TV should remain a display device. Stuffing it full of tech is asking for problems.

App Channels please! So we can pick what we want without any other nonsense. Plus, they would integrate into other iOS devices as well. Could be really awesome.
