Don't hold your breath. Pure wishful thinking.

Jobs is well known for not giving to charity for some reason.

Apple is his charity. That is what he believes in. His money is in Apple and Disney. His wife does donate to the Democratic party and some non-profits though.

I don't understand the point of the random college dropout line at the end. Are they trying to sensationalize the paragraph or throw in some unrelated jab at the US educational system?

Jobs is worth $6 Billion, thats just over how much Warren Buffett made.......this year! Ha. Thats so dope.

Ain't it the truth though

The reason Apple stuff is so expensive is because it takes a hell of a lot of money to keep someone so well preserved when they're dying of cancer

Apple pays Steve Jobs a corporate jet for his salary. He doesn't directly make money. There are no dividends so any monetary gain is based directly on company growth. There certainly is no Steve tax applied to their products. I'm not sure if Disney stock has dividends, but Jobs refuses to accept money for being a board member.

His fortune is pretty amazing considering that those higher on the list are probably all actively working to grow their fortune. Steve Jobs isn't trying. He probably figures he has enough, besides his true passion is in his work.

Steve's salary from Apple is indeed $1 per year. This is in the SEC filings. He also has a few shares of AAPL, plus some options.

If you actually bothered to read the article, you would have learned that the bulk of his wealth comes from his shares of Walt Disney Corporation (proceeds from the sale of Pixar). Steve doesn't need to work. He could probably sit on a beach and rake in $30 million a year in DIS dividends. He doesn't even draw a stipend from being on the board of Disney. They actually had to change the by-laws on his request so he wouldn't get compensation as a non-executive Disney director.

Presumably, Steve has diversified some of his holdings so he isn't reliant on two companies. My guess is that he has some fancy money manager who has him invested in a number of other places, including tax-free munis, perhaps a managed account, and probably a bunch of nice ETFs.

Despite the fact that Jobs making a buck a year is seriously OLD NEWS, this shouldn't come as any big surprise.

Salaries are for show only. You don't get wealthy from salary, you get wealthy from equity. It's never informative to know how much someone gets paid per annum. Tell me what their options package looks like.

Yeah kinda like how he keeps refusing to kick the bucket or step down like Bill did so the company can grow

Steve has made Apple's agenda as corrupt as our political system

Apple makes consumer electronics. Purchase at your own discretion if you don't like their secret and corrupt agenda.

And remember, salty dog, spouting off about the second shooter on the grassy knoll will not make you seem more intelligent.

I've just heard this, I'm not sure if it's true, but does Steve Jobs make $1 a year from Apple? I've hear that his salary is just a dollar and all his money comes from his investments in his company...Anyone know?

yeah, it's true. but do you really believe that Steve has only that much money? you know, Steve owns the whole Apple company. so figure out.

Uh, you might want to get back to reality sometime soon.

I think I might have to delay my next computer purchase.

Don't want to bother Steve with too much money.

Oh, I see, so when you buy your electronics you buy them for the CEO of the company's benefit and not your own huh?

Through the manipulation of our judicial system with his many frivolous lawsuits

Huh? Does not compute, Old Smuggler. Filing lawsuits is part and parcel of our legal system and has nothing whatsoever to do with manipulating the judicial system.

Steve started NeXT and Pixar with money out of his own wallet. If steve had given too much to charity in the late 70s and early 80s: Steve might not be at apple now and pixar would have never existed.

Well except there were a number of other investors in both companies, Jobs was not the only one. And for Pixar, he (they) purchased it from Lucas, so technically it would have still existed had he (they) not purchased it.

Pixar came a LONG way from the CGI unit that was bought from Lucas.

Wow, very heartless thing to say. You can make jabs at Jobs all you want but at the end of the day he's just another human being like you are and you could end up with his health issues in the future, or if not worse. It's nobody's business if he donates his money to charity or not. It's not required by law for him to do so, he earned his money just like you earn yours.....that is if you actually earn money.

This just in: Steve Jobs is a greedy ass hole.

Who cares. Really, does his attitude make any difference? It's all about Apple products. Why should you care about anything other than Apple gear, and if you're an investor, about Apple's bottom line. SJ can be anything he wants for all I care. I just want newer and better Apple goodies each year. As long as he isn't breaking any laws I don't give a sweet damn about his attitude. And it matters even less whether he gives to any charities. Unless that somehow impacts the iOS user interface. I'm sure Nokia's former CEO gives to charity. I'll tell myself that the next time I'm using their ****** products. That makes it all better. LOL

Yeah, Bill gave over four times Steves net worth away to himself, but his net worth didnt increase...

the great thing about the bill and milinda gates foundation, is that it is run as a transparent organisation

http://www.gatesfoundation.org/annualreport/2009/Pages/grants-paid-summary.aspx

and its not solely to third world, they gave a large wad of cash into the USA as well...

It would be worth reminding people that that the B&M Gates foundation manages the legacy funds of three generations of Bill Gates. Much of that money is just the interest on the investments.

Still amazing work and clearly his grandfather set a high standard for those who carry his name to live up to, which I'm sure they do gladly if Trey's behaviour is how we judge. The work of the foundation will carry on and on for decades to come.

It's a little harsh to measure Steve or any other first generation billionaires against a third generation legacy. For all we know Steve Jobs and others may give away a similar proportion but just choose to stay quite.
