I've gotta say, I'm pretty impressed.

I mean, I knew he was a visionary business leader, and all.

But it's hard for me to think of him bench pressing a lot.

It would be interesting to see how he could do in one of those "Strongman" competitions. Arm wrestling Bill Gates, and a bunch of Suits is one thing, but I wonder how he'd do lifting those 600lb stones, etc.

So much power even after changing product line from PowerMac to MacBook and Mac Pro.

Bravo Steve. :D

I didn't know he got standing ovations at other peoples companies.. people love him what can we say. I didn't know much about apple or steve jobs before switching but after i did, that name was just part of the products and conversations I would have... theres only a few peices of hardware that happens with... michael dell perhaps?.. of course big baller bill gates... and in comparison with those guys steve gets the love i think.. he's an icon. :)

Yeah, true, since.....dare I say his name..... Bill Gates *waits for slap in the face* .....since Mr. Gates doesn't have an active role anymore, and Ballmer doesn't seem to have nearly as much influence, I guess the crown goes to Steve for now.

He's learned a lot over the years and it appears that his power will continue to grow. I just hope that will still listen to consumers, especially the Mac faithful. Apple TV DVR, iPhone SDK, PowerBook G5....

Where's Rupert Murdoch on this list? I would put him ahead of Jobs.

I'd probably put Barry Diller ahead of him, too.

Of course, I'm not Forbes so it doesn't matter, anyway! :)

Murdoch is number 2.

After reading the article I can see why they would vote him #1..The man's done a lot in business over the past 30 years. He's pretty much changed the landscape in several areas. Now it seems like when he comes out with one of his "really cool" products , others in the industry follow..

He is a leader.

*slaps you in the face* :p

Poor Steve, now he can finally move past his insecurities and realize he has value.

In other words, does this guy need an ego boost? Ugh.

And lastly, kudos to Fortune for giving us the hard-hitting business journalism readers crave. Is this really any different from People's "Sexiest Man Alive" annual?

Thumbs down to everyone involved, including me for bothering to comment on this nonsense.

honest to god... they should have steve jobs on the front cover smoking a cigar in an armani, with some broad (or two) on his arms, on a yacht, sporting a sexy smerk and guccis

who can resist that san francisco mustache?! SEX SEX SEX!

I almost cared, and then I started cleaning out my spam filter, and found one from "Kermit P. Underlying"

Now that's frikkin' funny.

What were we talking about?

He is a leader.

You're quite right, he's very influential and has become the de-facto trendsetter in the business world, I just don't think he has as much influence over content as the people I'd named, and that seems to be where a lot of the power and control is rooted in nowadays...

congrats Mr. Jobs, before the power gets corrupting (ala B. Gates) fix these MBP issues please:D:apple:

I had to laugh on this post. I have read so many "lets beat the S out of Bill Gates" threads now Steve Jobs is Mr. Powerful and its a good thing. I can't wait to buy my first Mac but I think I am seeing this famed "fanboy" stuff I keep hearing about. Lets be honest here at least the man is just like every other huge corporate megaman but with a "hip" image. Hopefully his computers really are as good as I hear though.

Steve Jobs is one of a kind and truly is an American icon.:apple:

Now we need Apple to enter the gaming industry with the iGame or the iBox or the iSomething :p

hmm...most powerful? nah I'd say any CEO involved with gas right now has the power. No mater how much they charge us, we still buy. In fact demand just keeps going up. Jobs couldn't raise the price of his products like that and expect to make a profit. Hell, when he gives us a discount everyone bitches, so imagine a price increase....disaster
