Multiple news sources have reported that Steve Jobs is taking a medical leave of absence until June. Tim Cook will be taking over day to day operations.

Wall Street Journal republishes a letter Jobs sent to Apple employees.
Team,

I am sure all of you saw my letter last week sharing something very personal
with the Apple community. Unfortunately, the curiosity over my personal health
continues to be a distraction not only for me and my family, but everyone else
at Apple as well. In addition, during the past week I have learned that my
health-related issues are more complex than I originally thought.

In order to take myself out of the limelight and focus on my health, and to
allow everyone at Apple to focus on delivering extraordinary products, I have
decided to take a medical leave of absence until the end of June.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for Apple’s day to day operations, and
I know he and the rest of the executive management team will do a great job. As
CEO, I plan to remain involved in major strategic decisions while I am out. Our
board of directors fully supports this plan.

I look forward to seeing all of you this summer.

Steve

Oh my God.

My thoughts are with you and your family, Steve, in spite of the fact you're obviously sicker than you claim and you lied about it.

CNBC is reporting that Jobs is in denial and his health is much worse then he is admitting.

pray for him and his family. hopefully he can beat whatever health issues he is dealing with.

Best wishes Steve, enjoy your time with your family whilst you still can. We're all here for you

I think this might be the last time Jobs is completely in charge of Apple. I think he will be involved for along time but not heading the company.

AAPL is currently up in after-hours trading. Obviously, that isn't the only concern here with the guy's life and health on the line, but some people have already mentioned stock ramification.

EDIT: after hours trading has been halted for AAPL, so this may not be totally indicative of what tomorrow will bring.

Oh my just seen this on the news in the UK. What a shame, i hope he gets a lot better very soon. AAPL will drop massive tomorrow.
Best wishes Steve.

Give the guy a break - people can't live forever. If he didnt go today, he'd be going at some point or another.

All the best Steve and I wish you all the best.

My thoughts are with you and your family, Steve, in spite of the fact you're obviously sicker than you claim and you lied about it.

So discovering something *in the past week* means he lied when he said something before then? Can't follow that logic.

There's no evidence of anyone lying here, and any amateur health diagnosis based on physical appearance alone is pretty much meaningless...

Good luck Steve.

And here's to hoping AAPL doesn't get nailed tomorrow.
