I hope this means the Steve robot is complete and they will be in the process transferring the data from his brain to the robot.

In all seriousness, we knew this was coming sooner rather then later. He's got the best care he can get so hopefully he turns it around.

I think this might be the last time Jobs is completely in charge of Apple. I think he will be involved for along time but not heading the company.

I disagree. If he gets better (let's hope), he'll be back in charge. If he doesn't get better, then there's no "long time" for him to be affiliated with apple.

AAPL is going to tank tomorrow

Everyone who owns AAPL..... SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL SELL NOW!!!!!

Hysteria!!!!! Let hysteria take hold!!! SELL SELL SELL!!!!!

And once it tanks down to a stock price of $18, I can finally afford to buy it for myself. :D
And one more thing... get well, Steve!

I wish you the best of luck, Steve.

For a huge group of people out there who have tried to deny what I mentioned in my blog, and other places, about Steve's health, you get a big, fat I TOLD YOU SO!

Good luck, Steve.

He's done a lot for Apple and the face of the computer industry as we know it. I wish him well.

Not very good - sounds like he might even be on his last legs; it obviously is a lot more serious than just a weight hormone issue. I hope he gets well soon - but realistically, he isn't able to do his job, I don't think he's going to be in Apple for much longer.

2009 will see a new CEO for Apple.

I wish Steve and his family all the best over the coming months; irrespective of his health, I hope he makes the most of 6< months off work

Conveying care.

Beginning of the end.

Sad that it should hit when his work finally paid off. Under Jobs, Apple became #1 in music sales, portable music players, video editing, laptop sales and their OS is the most advanced on the market.

There goes my Apple stock.

But I do hope he gets better, he's only 53, so lets hope he has another 30-40 years left in him. Get Well Soon Steve!

Oh my God.
... in spite of the fact you're obviously sicker than you claim and you lied about it.

This may be the beginning of a massive change for Apple.

poor Jobs... The iconic leader is stepping down!

I think people should calm down. I guess Steve can't win. He remains private with his health concerns leading to speculation affecting stocks. He decides to be open about his illness and people freak and stocks are affected. Now he decides to seek treatment and focus on his health, stepping out of the spotlight so that people will quit harping on it, yet people are going overboard with sentiments like those above. Geez.

I think this is all part of the master plan. Steve will be back and better than ever before at CES 2010 and will totally steal the show and all the coverage. He will unveil an incredible onemorething product, totally eclipsing windows 7.

Also (more seriously) - get well soon - I know what it's like to have someone in the family with a serious illness.

Other than the obvious part of hopefully the break will allow Steve to come back stronger for more time at the healm, this could be seen as an opportune time for Apple, Steve is still involved in the major decisions but it we are looking at some non Steve time at Apple and hopefully all going well the stock market will come to realize that there is more to Apple than Steve Jobs.

It is also good that this period of time happens when Apple itself is in a very healthy financial state, plenty of cash in the bank & next to no debts, the leadership team isnt under extreme pressure to turn the company around or in a situation where making one decision could see the company fail.

Good luck to Steve and lets see Apple show everyone that one person doesn't make the company.

Maybe now we'll get FireWire back on the MacBook models.

Honestly, Tim Cook (and even Phil Schiller) have been "substitute" CEOs for a while now. If Steve Jobs was to forever leave Apple tomorrow, they'd still be able to function seamlessly. You'd probably never even be able to tell.

Well I am hoping he pulls out but, I seriously imagine that he will remain in a supporting role from this point on. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. The only thing that worries me is that Apple has not been successful without Jobs. Hoping for the best.

the market will most likely try to price the stock as if he isn't coming back...it's the prudent thing to do...

few notes

1) why end of june? Iphone-related product release probably

2) So tim cook will basically do what he is already doing..since he is COO already...

3) big question...how sick is steve really....probably really sick....

This won't happen for the sole fact that there is no one star at CES. Apple would just be another vendor, and there won't be any iSheep at CES, either.
