Wow. This is a really big deal. No question, this starts a new chapter, not just at Apple, but for the industry. More than APPL shareholders, I'm sure the Steve wanted to be involved in every detail at Apple.

Wishing you the very best, Steve!

Maybe now we'll get FireWire back on the MacBook models.

Honestly, Tim Cook (and even Phil Schiller) have been "substitute" CEOs for a while now. If Steve Jobs was to forever leave Apple tomorrow, they'd still be able to function seamlessly. You'd probably never even be able to tell.

Exactly. Jobs hasn't been doing much of anything as of late, it's been fairly evident. Let him go home and collect a paycheck. He's earned it.

Apple's stock is halted and CNBC is reporting that be is in denial about the gravity of his illness.

From the looks of him at the last public event and his absence from the Keynote, probably because he looks worse, I'd say the Apple transition has begun.

I just hope he gets well.

pray for him and his family. hopefully he can beat whatever health issues he is dealing with.

Or, instead of praying, perhaps we could give money to a cancer research charity or hospital which might actually do something to help sick people...

Get well soon, Steve.

Let's all hope Steve Jobs will get better by the end of June-and nice of Tim Cook to step in during this time.

Mr Cook has previouslt filled in for Steve in August 2004.

Although-the next major event will be WWDC-could it still happen in June with Phil Schiller presenting the keynote?

Wow.. this is news... hopefully he'll be back in June and deliver a steve note at WWDC
Apple is going to go way down tomorrow when the market opens. :(

This letter was just written to keep Apple management from getting to trouble for hiding his true health problems. It's a good move for Steve and Apple but a very bad sign for Steve's health. I hate to be pessimistic but the guy's dying so we should all step back and give him some room.

They should let Woz back into apple.

Maybe not run it like Jobs, but be able to go board meetings and stuff.

He could really help with R&D and also the education market.

Does this mean no new iMacs until June?

No, it means nothing at all in regards to the product timetable.
Everything will be released the day it's released. If that was before june then i'll still be before june.

Well unless there is a earthquake or something big like that.

BTW:
Best wishes to Steve and Family.

Who knows what the problem is. But AAPL deserves to half tank if only because this was inevitable and Apple has been a case study of denial.

AAPL is currently up in after-hours trading. Obviously, that isn't the only concern here with the guy's life and health on the line, but some people have already mentioned stock ramification.

EDIT: after hours trading has been halted for AAPL, so this may not be totally indicative of what tomorrow will bring.

After hours trading is back up now. Stock is tanking, down 10%.
