I hope its not one of those conferences where SJ gets off the stage to let others introduce things...
My recollection is that when they announce the presence of the Steve this far ahead of the event, that this is kind of like letting everyone know that this MacWorld will be one of the "big ones" with some significant sh*t to announce.

My guess would be that (if they are not announced before Christmas), Apple will definitely announce:

- iPhone 2.0
- MacBook nano
- new MacPro
- new AppleTV

and possibly announce:

- iPhone nano
- xMac
- tabletMac
- new MacBooks

and that's just a fair guess on the hardware only.

Penryn processors

The penryn processors are being released in JAN not spring . I hope they'll announce a new mbp, mb, 3g iPhone , and new laptop(ultra ~ portable)

Yes. If the Xeon Penryns are any indication, you won't be getting them in January. I doubt production has even begun to ramp up on the mobile Penryns yet. My guess:

  • Mac Pro
  • AppleTV
  • Ultra Portable

iPhone... nothing.
Macbook Pro. Nothing.
Macbook? Forget it.
iMac. Nope.

Here is what we might see (in no particular order...)

-iPhone in other countries
-AppleTV update
-New Mac Pros
-New Cinema Displays

Certainly no iPod updates...
Certainly no iMac updates...
Certainly no Macbook updates...
Possibly MacBook Pro updates.

If there's a new iPod Touch in the works, I'd be interested.

Looking for more storage (32GB or more), maybe a 5 megapixel camera, an external speaker.

:)

I don't think the iPhone 2.0 nor the iPhone nano will be announced just yet. If they do, Apple will have to wait for 4-5 months for FCC approval and nobody will buy the current iPhones during that time, which will hinder Apple's goal of meeting 10 million units in sales by end of 2008.

Also, people in Europe will be very, very upset if that happens, considering they just got the iPhone out there. I think they will announce an option to buy an iPhone unlocked, and/or possibly one with more memory 12GB or 16GB maybe.

But they need to update/release some revolutionary consumer product. All apple has going for it is innovation, so they have to continue to innovate!

I agree, but not because of the FCC approval. If they release an update, it'll either already be approved, or they'll just do it like every other phone that gets announced before approval. It works for other companies, no reason it can't for Apple. I don't think they'll do much of anything with the iPhone, though, because I think people want to see dedication to the Mac, so Steve's going to get up, talk about how good the iPhone's doing, maybe some of the stuff they're planning to add, then say, "Well, that's all we're going to talk about with the iPhone, let's move on to the Macintosh."

And then we'll all get our goodies.

Jobs Backup

I am Steve Jobs' backup in case he is holding a new computer that may explode on him. This is according to ESPN.com. You would see another guy with jeans but with 'don't tase me, bro' shirt on.

Please Please Please AppleTV

I'm getting an LCD TV this Christmas (FINALLY) and nothing would make me happier than a seriously updated AppleTV. Bigger hard drive, PVR functionality, special version of Front Row to differentiate it from regular macs, some sort of serious competitor to Media Center... Even one or two of these things would make me do circus jumps.

Funny... just this morning I was wondering how advance past Stevenotes were made "official" - thinking that surely we could expect an announcement "any day now."

I have a terrible time keeping up with these things (yes, even with the MR's buyer's guide). Correct me if I'm wrong, but for existing hardware updates, is this the general consensus:

Mac Pro - Yes
Cinema Displays - Probably
iMac - Probably not
MPB - Probably not
MB - No
Mini - Who knows

Am I missing something--I can't see Apple having a "Mac Pro" show (even though it's about fricking time).

Breaking News... Santa to deliver presents this Christmas

New - Apple Media Center
New Movie rentals via iTunes with NEW Studio content
Apple TV update - will stream HD and have surround sound capabilities
New cleaning solution to fix my friggin' Mighty Mouse for good.
New Mac Pro - has everything you can or will ever want

Apple announces purchase of Ford and begins to sell cars that people actually want.
:D:D

-Mac Pro
-Cinema Displays
-Ultra-Portable
-Apple TV
-3G iPhone?

Those will be the updates i think...

Anything is an improvement over last year's lackluster MacWorld.

Then again, it could always be worse.

I imagine he will introduce the long-overdue Mac Pro, tout it as the fastest thing ever, but carefully place the 1600FSB options in only the highest of BTO pricing schemes.
