Coming as little surprise to veteran Apple watchers, IDG World Expo announced on Tuesday that Apple CEO Steve Jobs would deliver the opening keynote address at Macworld Expo San Francisco. The expo will be held at San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center from January 8-12, 2007, with the keynote on Tuesday January 9th at 9 am Pacific at Moscone West.

Last year's keynote brought software updates including iLife and iWork 06 and Mac OS X 10.4.4. Also, the first Intel Macs were announced 6 months early in the form of the iMac and MacBook Pro.

While still early, this year's expectations have already begun to gain steam, with obvious expectations of iLife and iWork updates as well as the formal launch of the "iTV". Also possible is Apple's long-awaited phone and similarly long-awaited "true" video iPod, although both products have seen several setbacks. Lastly, with OS 10.5 Leopard's release around the corner, Jobs will undoubtedly take the opportunity to highlight some already announced (and perhaps some remaining "top-secret") features of the new operating system.

i guess the countdown starts about now :).

hard to believe its been nine months since macworld 2006.

yes it is. looking forward to hear the keynote though. i love those things :)

i really think the iphone will be announced

My MR sense was tingling... Why did I click on the front page just as something was posted YET AGAIN?!?

Anyways, seriously cool. The Countdown Begins!

It was right after macworld (actually the same day) that i bought my 20" imac, intel version. I still love the machine to death although its time to upgrade my ram to 2gig and revel over the 24" version of my machine. I'm really hoping macworld gives at least more info on the itv with some better features and specs. I don't think it will be released there but here's to hoping.

iTV is a definite. Whether or not it's available then, at the very least the final feature set will be specified. As part of that, Apple will probably announce all Macs are updated with 802.11n (already rumored to be the case for iMacs).

I would also rate the iPhone a very high probability. Apple is not stupid and they have to strike now while the iron is hot and the iPod is still at the top of its game. Music phones by SonyEricsson, LG, Samsung, Motorola, etc. may not have made a dent in iPod sales yet, but they are bound to once they improve the crappy media player software and increase capacity (and affordable 2 GB micro/mini SD flash cards are already available).

If Apple is able to deliver an iPhone by early 2007, I predict it will sweep aside all competitors (LG Chocolate, SonyEricsson Walkman phone, etc.), and also start taking large chunks of market share of "cool" fashionista-oriented phones like RAZR and Sidekick. Not because Apple is competing on features with the RAZR or Sidekick, but rather because it will become the new "cool" phone, and most people only own one phone, after all.

iTV, Leopard Details, iWork/iLife updates, Laptop updates? iPod true video? (iPhone yeah right)

That seems like a lot of stuff for just one keynote. He better release that iPod video before the holidays, Market analysts are switching from Buy to Hold because of Apples poor holiday line-up. The stock has gone down about 4% in the past 2 days! that may not concern most of you, but it concerns me damnit!

Also, i want to buy new goodies!

If the iPhone did as well as the RAZR, it would be amazing! I really hope that happens, but personally, i hate the RAZR, not just because Everybody and their 12 year old daughter have one, but because i just don't like the design and small outside screen, although i love the huge inside screen.
Anyway, I agree that they should release the iPhone asap to tap into the MP3 playing phone market which is HUGE right now! (RAZR with media just released, LG Chololate, seems like every phone has mp3 capabilities which everyone wants, but then they get the phone and realize the capabilities SUCK on their phone.

I'd switch to cingular just for the iPhone.

Holy crap! I can't believe it's time for another MWSF SteveNote! It seems like the last one just happened.

So do you think we'll have until then for anything new? Before the last iPod announcement, everyone seemed to think Apple had something else up their sleeve for the holiday shopping season. Now everyone's clammed up.

It's been a big year for new products from Apple. Do you think they're done for this calendar year?

All that and more!

With Apple focusing on smaller amounts of products at a time and with all the potential announcements, I predict record numbers of disappointed rumor fed drooling frenzy folk.

I love seeing what Apple does with iLife and iWork. I passed on the iWork update last year, I wonder if ol' Steve will convince me this year. I really like iWeb in principle, but we have been juggling computers at home too much to have a good central place for all the pictures and movies... that's due to MacBook intermittent shutdowns... an entirely different issue. Still, we haven't skipped an iLife upgrade since the beginning. We probably won't this year, either.

The good news (in a way) is that there is tons of room for improvement in iPhoto and iWeb. Maybe that was the plan.

Ramble, ramble...

Aaron was suddenly whacked by the iLife secret police for even intimating that purchasing yearly upgrades might not be worth it:D

i predict the release of leopard with graphic card updates in all mac products (mac pro, imac, mbp) except for the mac mini and macbook

iPhone will come out before X'mas.

Actually I would predict a video iPod before Xmas; with a possible announcement right around the time Zune is released.

iPhone I don't see until next year sometime.

iPod Phone

Software:

I think we'll get a software update of the iLife and iWork suites, a closer look at Leopard and it's new features, and an update to Frontrow for use with iTV. Am I the only one who thought the iTV interface looked less than polished?

Hardware:

No video iPod, but the iPhone will debut. This will be the BIG announcement. I don't think they would release a new iPod at the same time as the phone, so my money is on an iPhone.

I expext the quad core Mac Pros too. --prays-- A mid tower or mid priced configuration of the Mac Pro. By mid I mean around $1400 - $1600.

That's it! Try to keep some perspective. Everytime one of these keynotes is given the rumor mill predicts everything and the kitchen sink, but only a small number of annoucemnets are actually made. So, some standard software updates, a review of Leopard, configuration options for Mac Pros and the BIG iPhone announcement.

I definalty will be angry if the iPhone doesnt come out but at the same time i wouldnt be shocked.. but steve jobs giving it up? pfft no way hes still got a few years left in him :p unlike billy boy..

Here are my predictions (hold on to your pocket-protectors):

Steve will enter the stage, the crowd will go wild, and he'll work on quieting them with lines such as, "I'd like to get started; we have a lot of great products I'd like to show you..." He'll proceed to talk about iTunes, the iPod, the iTS, so on and so forth, talk about OS X's user base, maybe touch on Leopard. He'll release TelePort (iTV), iWork & iLife as is expected, and finally, after he's done with the usual rambling about how great Apple is, he'll say "We've talked about some great products. We've talked about Mac OS X, we've talked about how to bring iTunes content into your living room... but I wanna talk about one more thing..." and dazzle us with an update to .Mac .

We'll all proceed to connect to MacRumors and complain about how ***** stupid Apple is, yet continue buy every new release of anything they've ever produced.

You know it's true. ;)

Okay, really? TelePort, iWork, iLife, and either the true Video iPod or the PhonePod but not both. If they haven't been updated before the x-mas buying season, MPBs.

God, I hope the Macbook Pros get updated before Macworld, but honestly Macworld is only 90 days away...

Ya, that might happen, but last year he brought out the MBP which a pretty big announcement, so I'm hoping for good results again this year.

Like maybe a 12" MPB ? or a normal priced Black MacBook...

I think Macbook Pros will be updated at MWSF. Also, doubt the true video iPod will be out by then... all the designs being thrown around look too high-tech for now, and issues with scratches on the touch screen will have to be taken care of as well. I'd say more like Holiday 2007 for that~
