When your Map supplier becomes your biggest competitor, and refuses to bring competitive features like turn by turn navigation to your platform, you need to adapt or be left behind.

"Apple reportedly pushed hard for voice navigation in Google's maps on iOS, but Google was unwilling to hand over the functionality without concessions from Apple. As detailed by other sources, Google was seeking greater control over the mapping experience on the iPhone, such as Google branding and Google Latitude integration, concessions Apple was unwilling to make. "

Google was merely doing was any company in their position would be doing. If the tables were turned I'm certain Apple would've done the same to request greater control over the mapping experience. I'm sure Apple would object to Google seeking greater control of the iTunes experience.

Steve Jobs, Cook and Apple Execs are arrogant to think that they know better about the mapping experience than from the leader who's been successful for years, with millions using it every day.

Um, yea...that's why it says "Data from TomTom, others >" on the back of every may on the iphone...they are not doing it alone!

"We look at the tablet and we think it’s going to fail. Tablets appeal to rich guys with plenty of other PCs and devices already."

Not sure about the rich part, but I have a tablet along with a smartphone, Mac and PC. So that statement is sorta true for me :D

Apple decided to rip the band-aid off. It's hurting them a lot right now but the duration will be shorter compared to spreading it out for another year or two.

It's a lot like credit cards. Pay now and feel real hurt in the wallet or pay later with interest and end up hurting even more in the wallet.

But you still don't know how to do maps.
