While Voice dialing is not built-in on the iPhone, there are many 3rd party apps that enable it. One of which, I use quite often, is Say Who Lite (which is free) or Say Who, which works surprisingly well. I have found that it works faster when you assign nicknames to your contacts, otherwise you may have to clarify which contact you want to call.

there are many free apps to download that implement this feature VERY well.
i.e Vlingo and SayWHO
Yet another feature that no one uses that everyone wants. Just like MMS. When it shows up...fine. But the vast majority of people won't care.

This may be nice for driving, but normally, who is going to sit there talking to their iPhone? Especially if you don't want everyone else hearing the number you're trying to call.
As for people knowing who you are calling, yeah, I guess. But, usually this is a feature you would use while you can't use your hands - like while driving. And I don't think you would be driving around with someone who wouldn't know who you are trying to call in the first place.

I agree that voice dialing is useful, though I only use it in limited situations. My iPhone (from my first generation to my current 3G, with no hacking or jailbreaking) has always worked with the BT system in my car through which I can dial by voice alonel. I can either ask the car to dial a saved contact by name (I have saved the contact's name and number in advance), or I can dictate numbers for it to dial and my iPhone will comply without requiring me to slide to unlock or make any other inputs. The difference here is that my car is seen as a hands-free device, not a BT headset, and therefore using a different BT profile that allows different interactions. My iPhone's contacts list also uploads to my car so that I can scroll through it on the radio's display.
Correct, it would be a BT hands-free not headset as you say. But not all hands-free devoces provide all those features. My car, unfortunately, does not. Interesting that yours is so complete. I had not heard of one like it. I'm curious which car, or which BT add-on if it's not factory?
It's a BMW with the factory built-in Bluetooth package. BMW was quick to claim iPhone compatibility with their BT systems right away and I have absolutely no complaints about it.
