Exactly. Why muddle with the design of something that's already great, just to get a "feature" that few would want or ever use? It's not worth it, and looks bad too.

who said it had to look bad?
imo, and i believe a lot of other people, not ugly! and it has amazing battery life and a great form factor.

I like the fact that I do not have to worry about replacing battery covers if lost, buying new batteries, the whole phone and all coming apart if dropped, and "creaky" covers.

what about something like the battery compartment for the UMB(p)'s that not "creaky" and it looks good!

The Bold really is a great phone, I could almost get 3 days out of my battery. During heavy, heavy use two days. It's by far the best BB I have ever owned.
I do wish the iphone had a better battery but NOT a removable one. I used to think it was a problem till I actually payed attention to my own habits and I realized how useless a second battery was. Heck I've been using cell phones since the very first one came out (yah i know) and I've never needed a second battery. I've always used a charger. I could see it being an issue if there was some World melt down and power was an issue but assuming even then there will be no cell signals to catch anyway. Having an extra battery is like sucking your thumb when your two, it's just makes you feel better. :)

i can get 2 days on light usage, like not txting during school or something.
1 day on the weekend though, no more.

im going to have to agree with you there. in the last 2 years i have gone through more phones than you can immagine! let me list them( RAZR v3, Samsung alias/u740(that was my brief stint with verizon:mad: worst time of my life ), blackberry curve 8300(first smart phone!!!), iphone 8gb, blackberry curve 8310(red! best looking blackberry), LG shine(the mirror mezmorized me), blackberry curve 8310(titanium), iphone 3G(white) from launch day!) blackberry curve 8310 (another one i know!), iphone 3G (black), blackberry bold(best phone ever, kind of*)

the bold is great, but the iphone is too, i love both of them but i txt so much that after a month or two of typing on on the iphone i get sick of it.

I do wish the iphone had a better battery but NOT a removable one.
i also agree there, but im not completely apposed to the removable one.

how about both? not two batteries but a better battery that can be removed, without comprimising design, or solidness(you know what im talking about, the way the iphone feels in your hand, solid, like no other phone in the world!)

Removable batteries are important for recycling and for onselling phones once you've finished with them. At present it is a violation of NZ Post's terms of service to post an iPhone or iPod as the rules require you to remove batteries first. Postal services in other countries may have similar rules.

oh, i didnt know a removable battery took up more space than a non-removable one... oh thats right! it doesnt! the external battery packs are huge and ugly! they take away from the design and form factor.

actually it does take more space look at the unibody 17" mbp. they took out the removability to get 8 hours of life( with what i do i get 9 :) )

yeah, and does the iphone get better battery life than other phones that have removable batteries? i think not!

It's sleeker than any comparable phone that I've held so far, they could have made it bulkier with a massive battery but I for one don't charge it more often than every second day anyway.

Are you really ever TOTALLY away from an electric outlet ALL day? Away from a computer ALL day? Away from a car charger ALL day?

Typically when I am going to be in such an all day event - I make sure I plug my phone in and charge it - right up until I leave.

OK, I'll give you a "for instance". A couple of weeks ago I took my daughter down to Stamford Bridge for the Chelsea vs Blackburn game. We left the house at 9:30am with my phone on charge until the minute we left. Drove to Birmingham International train station with my phone still on charge.

Went on the train to London (no power) where my daughter played some games on my phone, and spent the rest of the morning in London. Used the GPS and some apps a few times to help find our way around and then went to the match. Took a couple of photos, made a couple of calls and sent / received some texts during the game.

After the match used GPS again to find a cab to get back to the station, made some more calls.

Made another call on the train back and my daughter again played some games

Before we got back to my car, (about 12 hours after leaving it) my battery was flat

That's not excessive usage and it's by no means unusual to be 12 hours away from a charger.

Now, I can make the iPhone last 24 hours by turning everything off and not using any apps, but if I do that I might as well just use a normal phone!

I don't particularly care about having a spare battery if Apple can make the phone last longer on a charge!

C'mon Apple...it's 2009. I absolutely LOVE your phone, but give us the option to swap batteries! I thought I read somewhere that European carriers are pushing Apple to make the iPhone have user replaceable batteries. Sorry for the rant, it's just that this is the only thing I hate about my phone.
It's a trade-off. A user-replaceable battery would need a bunch of extra plastic: (thicker) plastic around the battery itself, a little plastic 'bay' for the battery to sit in, etc. This would make the device thicker, all other things (capacity and the like) being equal.

Thinness is good IMO!

He was comparing external that someone suggested against internal removable. It's kind of obvious (to most people) which one takes up more space.

The Bold doesn't have a huge touchscreen that draws power from it's battery. Lets see how good the battery life is on the Storm.

Removable battery = less battery life

Mechanisms, doors, levers are needed so the battery can be removed. If you have an integrated battery, you get rid of all that, allowing for a larger battery.

that's pretty small and pretty sleek
your thinking of the ones that are built into cases

also, the iPhone charges really fast. Plug it in when your around 30%, and you can get to around 80% in around 10-20 mins

personally I think that plugging in an external pack is easier than running your phone to almost dead, turning it off, taking the back casing, removing the battery, replacing the battery, replacing the external case, and then rebooting the phone

especially since, from my experience, if you receive a text message while the phone is off/rebooting, then it takes anywhere from 5mins to an hour for that text to come in

Between all the cell phones I had for work and personal, I had over 20 cell phones so far. I have never needed a new battery in any of them. I did think it's funny that I just saw a commercial from US Cellular that they will swap your battery for free if you need a new one.

Agree whole-heartedly. In fact, I can be away from a charger for 15 hours as well, since I take public transportation there's no way I can use a car charger, and I also can't charge the phone in school, during after school activities, and night school so...

That being said, I don't really care about an external battery, the iPhone looks better without it, but I do wish it lasted longer, especially since lately it's been dying faster.

Why would someone with a cell phone need a removable battery?

I don't understand that. Plug it in to the AC adapter. It charges. Plug it into the computer. It charges. Plug it into a cigarette lighter adapter. It charges.

Is there some reason people CAN'T charge their phone?

In general I agree with you but I live in a place that only has electricity for 3 hours a day. So it would benefit some people to be able to change batteries. I don't understand why this would be hard to do?
