All this back and forth about lack of pre-release reviews and ridiculous conspiracy theories is mind numbing.

If there aren't any reviews before Friday - surely there will be reviews next week, once everyone gets their hands on rMB.

Bottom line is - who cares if there are no pre-release reviews and why. If you don't want to buy rMB before reading a review - wait an extra few days. Problem solved.

But I'm impatient! :) I want mine right away but I need proof that the1.3GHz one is worth the price. Right now, based on Anandtec, I would say it isn't.

I work for a major University in the US, and deal with Apple in the EDU purchasing side. I cannot post the contents of the emails I have received directly from our reps, but suffice to say we have never seen warnings this far in advance about constraint at a launch like we have with the rMB. Not even with the iPad launches did they prepare us this far in advance that supplies will be extremely limited. Matter of fact, Apple Campus stores are being told not to place stock orders (only orders for which they have collected money for), and Schools are being told to only place orders for eval units.

I say all of this because I'm not sure there are any review units out there.

We have been told to expect lead times in weeks, not days.

Funny you mention this. I work at a Campus Store too and just saw this on ASW. Gold seems to be the rarest of all, and I can corroborate: no orders for store stock, only for confirmed end user or department orders and they have no idea when they will ship.

That's just so crazy. You think all the fanboy reviewers would be praising the new Gold color and crazy thin-ness. Really wish we could see some reviews though :(

I picked up a Macbook Air today i7 256 SSD 4GB of ram in GOOD condition for $500 locally, i jumped on it. Was originally asking $600, i offered $500, via a local small computer store. Its going to take a CRAZY, CRAZY review to make me go out and get one at this point. I did originally intended on getting the MBR actually. But saving $800 for basically the same performance?

Sure ill miss the Retina display, but the MBA screen is much better once calibrated. I just need to STAY AWAY from the Apple store or ANYWHERE that has the MBR on display like Best Buy. Because if i see it in person, my wallet will start to burn :D.

I don't take my machine out of my house really ever, so nobody would even see my pretty MBR that i spent all the $$$ on even if i got one :D. I think the MBA will hold me over until the next gen of the MBR and see what that brings.

Key strategy here... STAY AWAY from the Apple store. ;)

Makes no sense considering the Apple Watch isn't out for another 2 weeks while the MacBook is out in a day.

Do you think just the extremely high demand for them, and the fact that they have to have the correct stock for all 3 colors has just had their focus on other things?

Yes, for you, stay away from the Apple store, because once you use retina screen, it is hard to go back.

I agree..... 110%. Granted this "calibrated" MBA screen is pretty good thus far for me. I "kinda" forget what the retina Pro i used to have was like. Other than less lid adjusting for contrast etc. Obviously it was better, but I'm training myself to forget. And remembering that $800 plus I'm saving NOT getting the MBR

Everyone knows it's better to skip a first gen apple product. Besides, with skylake next year it'll probably have wireless charging and a few more goodies. And then they'll update what they should've added in the first place (at least another port, 720p webcam etc etc)
