Coincidence. I really really wanted to buy the 42. Went to the apple store, tried on the 42mm and immediately thought it was too big. Wanting to overcome my initial impressions I thought "maybe its because I was wearing the 38. Maybe I can get used to it!"

The apple store employee ended up asking three of his coworkers and they all said I should get the 38 as the 42 was way too big :l

My wrist is 155mm. I was distraught. But seriously, it really was too big.

Hm I mean go with what you like! But with the 42, there was still some wrist space above and below the watch body and with the 38 there was too much if that makes sense.

It really comes down to what the person purchasing likes. A group of strangers on a message board are going to have biased opinions.

What is your definition of "not a large wrist"?

7 inches? I think 7 inches should be the starting point for a 42, to at least look proportional. Shoot tbh, at 7 inches, I think the 38 would still be a better fit watch than the 42.

At my wrist's narrowest it is approx 170mm or 6 5/8 inches.
At the position where I where my watch my wrist is approx 180mm or 7 1/8 inches.

Measuring the inside of my watch as I currently wear it is approx 190mm or 7 1/2 inches almost 7 5/8 inches. But I also like my watch onto my wrist a bit and slightly loose, not at the point where my wrist and forearm meet at the narrowest point, and not strapped tightly to it. The 170mm measurement is at the smallest point with the measure tape pulled taught around my arm and pulling the skin in a bit. And I personally (taste) don't wear my watch that tight.

38 looks too small.

First and foremost, this is a tech device. Bigger screen + bigger battery = both huge pluses. Watches that are 45mm+ in diameter are fashionable, as the recent trends of the past couple years dictate.

Geez, get what you want:
  • People who like you won't care.
  • People who don't like you won't care (and even if they did, who cares what they think?)
  • People who don't know you, won't care either.

I have a 42mm SG sport on order but am contemplating on switching to the 38. Do you guys think the 42 looks too big on my wrist? My wrist is only about 150mm in circumference. Thanks

Which feels more comfortable? You have to wear this thing all day. Both look okay to me. You've got enough mass to your arm to pull off the 42 mm look. I mean look at the gigantic watches some of the forum members have. Those massive diving watches are beasts. Don't tell me that all the guys who own them are built like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime.

No matter what, in a 42 mm you can't possibly look worse than this 6 ft 4 dude I saw wearing one of those Samsung Gear watches that looked like a parody of Salvador Dali's Persistence of Memory. Meaning it looked like a Samsung phone melted and bent across his wrist.

So keep what feels comfortable and serves you best. They both look fine. I've got a 38 on a tiny wrist. I can wear my husband's 42 mm but it looks funny. However, I have screen envy. If I could get away with 42 mm gracefully, I would.

42 for battery size and easier to read/interact screen. I thought both pictures looked fine.

I think Apple Watch doesn't photograph well and always looks far bigger and more obvious in a photo than it does in real life. I have a large wrist and the 42mm watch looks very discreet, but when I take a photo is looks quite big. Either size would be good for you I think.

I think it looks really good on you. 150 seems like a really small wrist for a man but in the pics it looks great with the 42. I'm a small woman and my wrist is 152 mm and the 38 looks best on me ....

I have wrists around 150mm and honestly don't think the 38mm looks feminine on me at all. It fits me like a watch should and actually looks like a normal watch for the most part.

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I will stick with the 42. The SS 38s are shipping quick and I'm so tempted though... This decision is so tough

Not really sure why some people want to cover their whole wrist with just the watch face.
The watch face should be central to the wrist with the bands showing on either side for a more balance look
