Hello All,

Considering the upcoming release of the iPhone 5, I feel like this is appropriate. I'm still on the 1st generation iPhone with whatever the latest software update is for that model. I don't have video, for instance.

Just wondering if anyone else out there is still using the 1st generation iPhone? Mine still works, although it is very slow and some weird lines appeared the other day on the screen. The battery is still pretty good. I got it right when they came out, so I guess it's about 4 years old.

For the record, I'm definitely getting the iPhone 5 when it comes out. Hoping it has a bigger screen.

Congrats!
I'm in a similar position as you. I'm still using an iPhone 3G, which I bought since launch day of '08. So i've had this phone for 3 years, and an upgrade is long overdue. I'll also be upgrading to the iPhone 5 if rumors are true.

My iPhone 3G is unusable as a smartphone now, it's just full of lag.
I guess because internally our phones are the same.

yanki01: I'll sell you mine once I stop using it!

Reach9: Mine doesn't lag too bad. It's definitely noticeable with certain apps. E.g. the camera takes a while to load and the maps app takes FOREVER! It's so annoying because I always need quick access to the app when I'm in a situation where I use it, and it's agonizing waiting for it to load. I can't wait for iPhone 5. The "rumors" are definitely true in my opinion, btw. I've been following MacRumors long enough to have watched the cycle of phases approaching a product release enough times to tell.

I still have and use the original iPhone. My "main" phone I use is the 4 but every once in a while I'll stick my SIM in with a SIM adapter and use the original for a few hours at a time just for nostalgia and to keep it up and running.

I guess I should actually say all this in the past tense since I messed up the SIM reader a few weeks ago. I've been looking for a good used logic board ever since. I bought one on eBay and installed it last night and the "new" logic board is bad.

I really want to get it up and going quick so I can sell my iPhone 4 and just use the original until launch day. But I'm not having any luck finding a replacement.

What I'm most amazed by is how your battery is still good. I put a new battery in mine about two months ago because the phone got to the point where it wouldn't even stay on for half an hour.

upgrade ur wifes iPhone to a 5 (when it comes out) and take hers (does it not have those lines? Than upgrade when 4g comes to the iPhone. You will have jumped an entire technology :p

I still have my original iPhone - as an iPod touch my kids fight over all the time. I bought it 1 month after it came out and then upgraded to 3Gs (my current phone) and made my husband use it for a year. He upgraded to the 4 last year and I will upgrade to the 5 this year. then my kids will have 2 iPod touches to play with (original plus my old 3Gs).
