My iPad 1, 64G WiFi works but a lot of the new programs require ios 7 or above and they have no ios 5 versions to run on this device.

But the biggest problem is web surfing. It is nearly impossible to surf without Safari crashing all the time.

My iPad 1 is now a very nice looking living room clock, which is as accurate as you can get and it automatically sets itself to DST.

In a way, yes!

It is painfully slow for most tasks, but playing music either using Apple's built in Music App, or Spotify, or reading books with iBooks or Zinio and using many other programs like Mail, Netflix, Photos, Dropbox, iCloud etc, are fine. If only Safari worked without crashing every minute or two, I would be inclined to keep using it for a little longer, but the way it is, it is a frustrating experience.

For comparison, many old MacBooks are still kicking around, like my late 2008 unibody 13" MacBook, (after a memory and SSD upgrade) is running El Capitan and has a satisfactory performance, yet the performance of the 2010 iPad is barely acceptable.
