I'd have pulled the trigger on a 12.9 iPad Pro, but I decided to for the back to school promotion. Wondering if it's actually coming.

Apple is defiantly going to do a back to school special, when is the only question. I forgot about the back to school deal and got the 30 day zero interest Barclay but you have to make a purchase within 30 days of opening account and tomorrow is day 30. I will still wait because I don't want to miss out on a freebie when its so close. I will ask Barclay to extend the offer or close the account and use cash.

"Back to School"?
I've always looked at it like, "Let's get rid of our current models at a discount price before we introduce cool(er) new stuff in September" sale.

I know, I'm a downer today... :(

They just updated everything.

That's why they buy an Apple laptop for 3x the price of a cheap Dell that would still do everything they need to do.

Right, because all the non-students on this board and in the Apple Store need a $3k MacBook Pro.

We don't know what's on sale at the back to school promo, yet. They may be giving away stuff with the purchase of something new. For example, they might give away an Apple Pencil with the purchase of an iPad Pro, and in September come out with the Apple Pencil 2. Or, an iPod with the purchase of an iMac.

I was just basing it on what I had already seen in the past, and participated in.

Great Article! Exactly what I was wondering. Kudos.

Perhaps it's wishful thinking, but the back to school promotion would be more fitting and tempting if they included an Apple Pencil or a keyboard. To make it a true school "laptop computer" a student would need at least one or both of those things anyway.

A $100 Apple gift card may be technically how they advertise it, but $100 iTunes card is really not very interesting to me or many other people I would venture to guess.

That would convince me to pull the trigger on the 10.5 pro.

Didn't they just launch a bunch of "new" stuffs? Are they likely going to offer ANY discount to new toys?

Sure, they'll skip BTS because they just released small updates to their product line.
Did you even read the article? There was a BTS program every year, and yes, they gave discounts on their "new" products several times.

You can pay things like Netflix with iTunes, which means you could use that money right away. The Store gift card is useless until you decide to buy another overpriced product from Apple.
So no, I like the iTunes gift card better.

I'll get 300$ Beats over any iTunes gift card anyday. Especially over paying my 9.99$ Netflix.

Wouldn't surprise me if the bean counters Cook & Ahrendts are looking to eliminate this program entirely as it cuts into their bottom line not that anything they've given out in recent years has been worth anything. I remember when Apple's BTS events actually gave out good stuff.

Times have changed

Where did I say that they would skip the program? You must be reading some other posts since it was not in mine.

I simply do not recall that they have released a newly updated product so close to this promotion period.

By the way, I did read the article. Thank you for your concern.

With a store gift card you can always buy an itunes gift card. The vicerversa is not possible, so a store gift card is always better because it gives you more possibilities.

So you can overpay 30% just to use up the iTunes card. I guess that shows how much people value them.

My 2011 MBP came with a $100 iTunes store card for back to school. I still have about $40 of credit left. The App store/iTunes store are just so uninteresting.

No idea what you are talking about. Netflix has the exact same rates when paying the subscription with iTunes.

Wrong. You can't buy an iTunes gift card with an Apple Store gift card.

"Note: Apple Store Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase another Apple Store Gift Card, an iTunes Gift Card, Apple Print Products, or for purchases at the iTunes Store"

I used an Apple Store Gift Card to buy another Apple Store Gift Card. I had two $25 cards, and put them toward a larger gift for someone else.

That's great. Officially it shouldn't be possible, so I wouldn't count on buying gift cards with gift cards.

I think it's highly possible that they just make a few posters tells you if you go back to uni we got some "good" stuff here but no promotion on anything.
When you ask them what can I get for buying Mac and iPads, they would say you have already saved "hundreds of dollars" because they update the Macs and iPads with faster ~~ better ~~ but charges the same......
Or maybe we can't even get the posters...... Because they are busy working on the new iPhones.....

Right, that's what the common person thinks. Yet, the common person isn't in charge of a trillion dollar company. Perhaps this misconception is related.
It's shi*t thinking like this that will forever keep you a "common person".
