i emailed radtech and they replied me saying my shipment has been sent and gave me fed ex tracking # however i ordered 2 of one a black and blue but the black is still backordered i should receive the case tuesday next weds.

I just received my STM Skinny today for my new iPad. It fits well and the sleep function works perfectly. I am not sure right now if I'm going to keep it yet because I might just go for a TPU back and sleeve for transportation.

If anyone has questions I'll try to answer.

I also see that STM has another case called the Grip. Anyone getting this one?

That case looks like the Kicker, but with different material. The Kicker was TERRIBLE. the front flap would not fold back flat and th kickstand was very sketchy. Would not recommend. The Skinny is excellent, although it wold be better if made in leather or fake leather.

I don't have a camera with me right now so no pics sorry.

I think it's a pretty good case if you're looking for a thin and light weight folio. It looks nice and the fit is very good, all of the ports line up and the iPad snaps in securely.

I'm leaning towards not keeping the case though for the following reasons

-I'm not a fan of the tab on the flap of the case. I thought it would work fine without tucking it in all the time but if you don't the cover slides easily and the iPad will turn on and off repeatedly.

-I don't need a high level of protection all the time especially when using it indoors and the case makes it awkward to hold especially lying down and adds a noticeable amount of weight. I came from an iPad 1 with the official case and you can slide a few fingers on your left hand underneath the iPad to get a better grip. With this case you can't since the snap corners hold the iPad down.

-I was expecting the magnets to hold the cover down like it does on the iPad2 version but it's a lot weaker on this one and doesn't do that.

I think that's pretty much it for the negatives. It's good overall especially if you need to the iPad outside a lot. Mine is more for home use so I think I'll go for a sleeve + light back protection.

Do you mean that while the front cover is folded against the back of the iPad, it causes the iPad to go to sleep if the cover moves? This was a problem with the original Skinny which I posted about on YouTube, and STM contacted ME (not the other way around) and sent me a free replacement (great company).

My Skinny for the iPad 2 fits the iPad 3 perfectly, actually a little tighter=better than the Skinny fit the iPad 2, however the wake/s;sep magnet no longer works due to Apple changing the polarity. I wonder if I could mod that myself, otherwise I might need to get the Skinny 3.

Just got my email that it shipped. Unfortunately they are shipping via USPS (why?), and the tracking number provided does not work.

My mail service is very random with mail delivered at different houses, so let's hope it works this time :(.

Just saw one of these for the first time yesterday (the iPad 2 version) and they seem really nice and a solid quality to it. However, I was not fan of the tab and it seemed to be a little stiff when folding the cover back to be in "book reading" mode.

Does the leather loosen up over time? The resistance I felt would make me afraid the hinge could crack and possible break off over time.

Thoughts from those who may have had the iPad 2 version.

First of all, the case is not made of leather, it is made of a nylon material that one might see on a backpack. It's nice material, but after a short period, it begins to fray along the edges. Also, as the tab gets broken in, it will begin to slip out of the loop. All in all it is a good slim case. As I've said many times, they should make it in leather. If you purchase it and live in the US, you should get it from Radtech. They have excellent customer service. After having had mine for several months, I wrote them an email complaining about the fraying and they immediately sent out a replacement free of charge with no questions asked.

Yes, you are correct. It was a nylon case. I had leather on my mind because I was there specifically looking at the leather smart covers. Sorry about that possible misleading statement.

What about the hinge? Do you feel it becomes "looser" as it gets used? If you are seeing fraying and tabs becoming loose on it, I'd be hesitant on getting one.

The hinge is not the problem, it's not wearing out. Rather, the tab gets slippery and tends to slide out of the slot especially when in the typing position. A nice alternative, which I received yesterday is the Incipio Lexington, which is virtually identical to the Skinny, but in faux leather. The hinge mechanism is slightly different, as is the way you fold it back, but as far as slimness goes, it's exactly the same. As has been noted on these forums, the first batch of the Incipios have incorrect magnet placement (thanks to Apple) so the sleep/wake function does not work. They're well aware of the situation and are already responding to complaints by sending out replacements as soon as they're made. It's still a nice case even if the sleep/wake doesn't work. Actually, they're more stable in the viewing position than the Skinny.

I liked the skinny, but look out, the cover will not fold behind the screen totally flat. Fail. :(

Not sure why they didnt make it work correctly.

I just took a scalpal to my old STM Skinny (iPad 2 version) and cut out the sleep magnet, fliped it over, glued it back in place and made sure to glue the microfiber over the magnet nicely, and now it works with sleep and waake function on my iPad 3!

I still really like this case. The flap folds back flat enough for me, I dont really notice a problem with that. I thoguht the tab would annoy me when I got it but I find that it doesnt bother me too much. And I'm generally really picky about cases. Mine has taken wear over the last pretty well and there are no major issues, just a few threads that need trimming here and there. It's a lighter color so it has discolored enough that it definitely looks like its not new, but I don't really mind.

I mgiht consider the Incipio one as an alternative but I'd like to see/try it in a store first. I'm not a big fan of fake leather and I actually like the nylon material more.

As for the new skinny, I like that it provides more side protection, but I am not crazy about the color options for the new Skinny. I have the military green case on my white iPad and I like it but the blue and red are too flashy and the mushroom is just weird. I guess I'd go with black if I got a new one but I dont like that black cases absorb heat from the sun and tend to get hot, and also its a bit boring.

Just got mine today ... don't really like the changes. A lot of times I wouldn't bother using the tab on the Skinny 2 cause it would stay shut, now it won't. Plus the cover still doesn't lay flush against the back. I think I'm going to return it.

Does that mean it no longer has the weak magnetic force when the case is in the closed position?

Exactly, the cover lays flush on the screen now, instead of on those plastic things on the Skinny 2 which magnetically held it down.

:( Sounds like this one may be going back to the store pretty quickly. I was a big fan of the Sknny I had on my iPad 2 and figured this was just resized for the new model.

I got my shipping notice from Radtech yesterday, so I expect it to be here on Monday or Tuesday, and I will make a decision then. I'll try to post some photos is no one beats me to it.
