I mean what do you do? I'm mad he was careless. But it's not his fault it was stolen. And he's 14. So it's not like he's 10. So, hopefully it'll turn up in the next day or two..... yeah right.

You must be rich

A 14 year old with a brand new newly release iPhone 8 plus for 799 retail? Hopefully he’s very smart and gets good grades for his parents to buy him brand new iPhones

So what you're saying is, had he been 10 he'd have been on a Nokia flip phone and not a $800+ iPhone 8 Plus?

Wish my parents were as generous as you back in the day.

I shouldn’t take. I was spoiled as a teen and while I wasn’t the best kid or got great grades my parents bought my new flip phones

I guess With today’s inflation it would come out to similar if not more in price so I take back my comment

He does. But no, not rich. I wish. But effectively kept the same phone bill payment with him upgrading.

Trying not to slam the poster - but this is exactly why so many people buy new phones. Nobody thinks about the $800 part at all. Just amazing that we will spend $800 on a phone that does almost the same as the phone that is already paid for.

Amazing.

If it was up to me, it'd be something different. But mom is in charge. She just allows me to live here. I married an only child and he's an only child. I'm just lucky she doesn't charge me rent.

I know. They have us by the short hairs. Me, I don't mind upgrading every year. I work my ass off and enjoy my gadgets. But I'm 46 years old. But I lost the other battle.

LOL... all good man.

I once had an iPad mini stolen... I put it in lost mode and was getting the same message you're getting about it will update when the device connects to internet.

Well... about a week later I got a call from a random person saying they had traded their Samsung tablet for my stolen iPad from a person off Craigslist.

They gave it back to me and learned their lesson hopefully. You'd think trading for a device off Craigslist with no box, charger, etc... would set off some red flags.

I always though signed into iCloud and find my phone turned on was pretty much making the phone a paper weight when stolen, even DFU restore would make it activation locked without the apple id password.

The phone is probably turned off. As said the same thing has happened to me before... and as soon as they went online the phone is locked.

I recovered my lost device a week later. FMIP does work.
So I'm leaving FMIP turned on but keeps timing out 'for security reasons". I assume if say overnight it gets turned on, and I log in in the morning it'll still alert me?

Yes. You've put it in lost mode. When the phone goes online it will take effect. You'll be able to see it from FMIP.

I don't pretend to be an expert on this... just giving you my experience. When the person traded for my stolen iPad and then went online and got the message to call me at XXX-XXX-XXX they did... and we met and they gave it back.

I'm not saying you'll get the phone back... it just depends on if they actually want to use the paperweight as a paperweight or if they'll realize it's useless to them and return it.

Sounds good. It's a long shot at best. But who knows....

Thanks again!
