Stolen iPhone?

Pretty funny huh?

What is with all the mother jokes? Not even remotely funny....

Next time, Save your fingers the carpal tunnel before you decide to write something that doesn't help out the situation.

If my mother only knew what MacRumors was....

In any case, if you read above, I am not doing anything -- just speculating. No need to cause an uproar or pass judgment on me. You have no idea who I am or what I do... for all you know I could be gathering this info for a story I am writing for CNN.com.

So relax and discuss.

Since you mentioned her, I figured it was fair game. You ant on topic? Why don't you go to the closest Apple store or AT&T and see if they will exchange the iPhone for a different color. If that's your legitimate reason, and they don't have a problem with it, then they'll happily do it for you. When you start the thread out by asking if Apple will replace a phone that hasn't actually been stolen (effectively giving you two iPhones when you only paid for one; which I would call theft) then you lose a lot of your standing for constructive help/advice.

If my iPhone gets stolen, am I eligible to replace at an Apple/At&t store for the price I paid for it (i.e. $299)? Or will I get charged the unsubsidized fee?

It would be pretty crappy if it got swiped and then you had to pay full price?

What about if you sold your phone? Would you then get charged the full price?

Haha I don't know why people are bashing you. It isn't my problem if you decide to do the "wrong" thing and lie that your phone is stolen.

Apple does not cover theft. No company does usually. So if it was swiped you would have to pay full price for another phone. Perhaps you could appeal to a store manager and say that it was stolen, but I doubt it will work. Maybe they will sell you a refurbished one like someone else suggested.

If you sold your iPhone, it would be the same as theft. Either way you "let go of it" and so Apple is not responsible.

As another person said, wait for an update. I don't know when that would be, however. I don't suspect an update until WWDC...and even then it can't be huge.

I went tonight and they replaced it. End of story.

I don't know why either. I have seen/read way more ridiculous things asked on these forums.

It's everyone's problem, you just don't acknowledge it as being something that YOU should be concerned about. Its the same thing with insurance fraud: your buddy purposely wrecks a car that is insured by Allstate. You also use Allstate. Allstate covers the wreck. Everyone pays for someone's fraud, especially if rates go up across the board. The money has to come from somehwere, right? Apple, yeah, but where do you think Apple gets its revenue from? Yeah, you guessed right....the consumer.

Next time you complain about high Mac merchandise prices, think about how fraud may affect pricing.

What's wrong with you're white one anyway? Be a man!

I guess why they won't just give you another one is 'case you'll then have a black iPhone and also a 16g ipod touch (assuming you don't hack it and change the sim and then have two phones)

AT&T are aware that a lage number of lost/stolen phones are reoported by people just like you. They ar'nt dumb.

can an app fix stolen iphones??? well not fix but maybe find the phone via GPS???
i would love an app like this..... i would go and buy a bat and go to the point on the map and beat the person that jacked my phone!!!!!! and his mom too:)

Why is that? I did nothing wrong, just asked a question. But for the record (if you actually read the thread) you would have seen the resolution.

.... Would ATT let you replace a stolen/lost iPhone with a different phone? As in, I dont want another iPhone, let me buy a phone from a different make?

Is that possible?

? to the OP:
What type of case are you sticking the phone in?
If it completely covers the phone why care about color?

I'll now retreat to the safety of the Apple Forums or ATT forums :p

Not sure, maybe At&t would, but Apple wouldn't.

Since I swapped it out (White again), I bought Incase's Slider in White as well.... going to have to live with it.

How much did you have to pay for the replacement? Was it the 3G?

I lost mine on friday, and I think that I just may want to buy a new one. If the one I lost was a $199 8GB 3G......... Can I just pay the $199 price for a new 8GB 3G?

Anybody know how that works?

I don't think so... You will need to pay full price or $399 for the 8GB.
