Probably good news, if he made contact with the feds they would immediately tell him to stop posting on this forum.
Agreed. Here's to hoping the MacBook is recovered and we hear back from the OP in the end.

Ever use a hand-gun?... Get mid-evil bro!
Na but they post above has the best idea w/ the alert feature. Cops will not be much help unless you have some major proof.
What is "mid-evil bro?" you meant to say get medieval, instead.

And another thing: poke around here to see if there are any names you regognize. http://neighbors.whitepages.com/search/neighbor_search?street=2904 47th ave&where=san diego, ca
It's been 3 months since it was stolen and the thief still hasn't formatted or otherwise changed the laptop.
I said it before and I'll say it again.
That guy is the worlds biggest idiot.
Or.....
This thread is a huge FAIL.
Not to get odd on this thread. I read the first page and the last page. It sounds like you know who has your Mac and where he lives plain and simple.
I'm not joking I'd put on a balaclava and go to the guys house and flat out take it back. Baseball bat included. Bring a mate too.
Seriously this is ridiculous. If you know who did it and the cops arent helping then I fail to see the harm in taking it back yourself.
Luke, I sure hope you get this back. That janitor is a total scumbag.![]()
Trust me, I've thought about it. But the reality is:
1) That's super illegal and I would likely get arrested
2) I might get killed, this is not a good neighborhood
3) I have a police detective on the case who is getting a search warrant and will recover the computer legally, why would I mess that up?
But I will say, if for some reason my detective can't recover the macbook, fails to get a search warrant, or some other ******** I will likely resort to some other "method" of getting my computer back.

Thanks man, I agree. Pretty messed up that a university employee would completely screw over a student like that. Hopefully justice will be served and the guy will be put in prison for a while.

Get the university involved.
this!!Get the university involved. This type of crime should be noted somewhere in the student handbook or policy.
After reading the full thread and seeing how close he is, I really have to repost this...We want updates............
If you're real close to getting your mbp back in your possession I would have some fun with the thief. Send a message to the computer saying this:
“I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my MacBook go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.”

Police declined to say what led them to their suspect. Police have a variety of methods in tracking goods and burglars in situations like this, Tsui said.
