I’m sort of skeptical of this whole situation. Just because brining back some of these ports seems so useless and un-Apple.

Schematics stolen from Apple supplier Quanta Computer outline Apple's plans for the next-generation MacBook Pro models that are expected in 2021, and clearly confirm plans for additional ports and a return to MagSafe.

IMNSHO, Apple could totally fit *both* a function key row and a Magic Touchbar: just make the (already pretty huge) Trackpad a little smaller and slide the keyboard down. That said, I use my Touchbar very rarely... but I think it is conceptually interesting.

I welcome MagSafe’s return. If someone wants to charge via USB-C, just go ahead and plug in a power cable.

And what purpose would that serve? Right now everything posted is a trade secret, and if Dell, Google or anyone else with deep pockets used the info, Apple could make them pay. Trade secrets don’t disappear when someone steals them.
In theory, it would remove the main motivator for *******s to extort the companies they steal from - money. I didn’t say I thought they’d do it, just that if they did, it could begin to shift the dynamic and fewer random attacks would happen.

Not necessarily.

If ons is using all 4 ports, one of them was likely doing Power in that setup.

That will now have its own port again.
Possibly. But a monitor could provide power. My 16” setup is 2 UltraFine 5K displays (so 1 provides power) and 2 thunderbolt devices. Either 2 Samsung X5 drives or 1 X5 and a 6 card thunderbolt SD reader. If I lose a TB port I need a hub. If I need a hub, I can just get an iMac, sell 1 5K display, and save myself $2000. I understand my situation is unique, and I boxed myself in with having 2 UltraFine 5Ks, but losing that one port hurts for me.

This seems like something Apple designed in between the last last gen MacBook Pro and the Touch Bar MacBook Pro. Maybe Apple did think of keeping some ports and add some USB-C ports, but later they decided to just go all in with USB-C.

At this point, I don’t really see Apple going backwards. We already see the baseline iMac going all in on USB-C and thinner design. Apple is probably eyeing on sleaker devices, and the only port that support that is just USB-C. The dongle life is already common, with literally most Windows ultrabooks also require dongles.

At this point, I don’t really see Apple going backwards.
They did a complete 180 with the MacPro and addressed pretty much every problem we had with the Trashcan. Personally, I'd love to see a couple USB-A ports back. USB-A still is and will be quite commonplace for years to come regardless how anyone feels about it. These are facts.

I cannot believe the true MacBook Pro 2015 successor is finally coming. Jonny really messed up the Pro line. Pros want function keys and ports. Keep the minimalistic products for consumers. Consumers won't care if there's no SD card slot. Pros will.

The law in the UK regarding this story which is likely the same in the US; as long as MacRumors didn't solicit the theft or pay for it and is not publishing copyright images but is merely sharing the details which are publicly available then it is not breaking the law. Newspapers do this with some frequency.
That’s not so much the law in the U.S. For example: https://www.dmlp.org/legal-guide/publishing-trade-secrets

By contract fab workers aren't allowed to talk about products or make photos to prototypes. We see those leaks here monthly and no one complains, yet it's technically stolen info aswell. People's double standards don't cease to amaze me.

I haven’t seen the employment contracts or the local statutes applying to these workers who reveal information from their own workplace, so I don’t know whether they broke any laws.

But I *do* know that when a hacker hacks a computer to steal information, a law has been broken.

Now that I've experienced both USB-C charging and Magsafe, I value being able to run my charging cable from either side of the computer over a one-sided Magsafe port.

I mean in both situations it's highly likely laws and contracts are being broken. Like 99.9% chance the leaks regularly posted here are obtained illegally. You don't really need to see the employment contracts and local statutes to come to this conclusion...but if that's how you justify being ok with those leaks and not these then ok.

Straw man much? Where did I say I’m okay with ANY illegal leak?

I was quite clear. I don’t know that those other leaks are illegal. If they are, then I am opposed to MR publishing them, too. If not, then I am not opposed.
Ok, so you're opposed then. I can assure you that Apple isn't doing business with anyone that is allowing their employees to willy nilly spread Apples tech secrets around for the world to see.

Deep down you DO know.

But I understand your position.

I strongly share the concerns and disappointment that MR is enabling illegal ransomware activities. The ransomware is premised on the threat of publicly releasing confidential information. The threat is amplified by the extent to which the public is exposed. Therefore, it's a false counterargument to claim that MR isn't doing any harm, because the information is or was going to be posted by others. MR should own up to the fact that it is enabling randomware attackers. If MR is ok with that ethical trade-off, please be up front about it. And if MR is not ok with that ethical trade-off, please don't hide behind the false "it isn't enabling because others would have published it" argument.
Did you have the same problem when Snowden, Manning or Assage leaked classified material that was actually harmful to the United States unlike the huge harmful impact that OMG Apple is bringing back a massage connector and doing away with the touch bar is sure to unleash.

I for one am completely against how this information was obtained in the first place.
Having been in the military and having held a Top Secret/SI security clearance for years feel like I have a pretty good understanding of trade secrets/classified info and how it should and should not be handled. I am one 100% against Snowden or Manning leaking secrets even if the reason why was something I agreed with. I despise anyone who disobeys a NDA that they signed and then spook about.

At the same time I never hated the news or media for doing coverage on any leaks because one, that's the business they are in and two, it was already out in the public and they weren't the ones who leaked it. Mac Rumors did NOTHING wrong in providing coverage about this. They aren't hosting or publishing the actual data that was stolen, unlike many websites already that have actually been doing that.

If we go with your logic everything Mac Rumors posts a news article about some hacking group owning some company and having their data held ransom because it's on a Mac, shouldn't be posted on here.

You also have no problems with any of the Devs or people who sign up for apple beta program that sign a NDA disclosure agreement sending pics on here about the new forthcoming OS when technically they aren't.

Either put both feet in or out of the water but you can`t stand there with one foot in and one foot out of the water and not be a complete hypocrite.

I realize the purpose of the rumor site. In my opinion, MR should have skipped this article and if that made people look elsewhere for the story, so be it.
You are more than welcome to not read/skip this article and comment on its content. Similar to forum members complaining about litigation articles. Though there should be a separate tab for law suit articles as it keeps those interested to focus on that area and an easy place to find such intriguing articles.
