But If my Icloud account is registered with Apple ,means my serial no, of the macbook is registered with my icloud account,in this case even if the new OS is installed, can not Apple locate the device by serail no.?

I am sure Apple is capable but, unfortunately there is no way. Once the Harddrive is wiped you have no way of tracking. You can prevent them using the machine in the future by putting a firmware lock on it.

It would be awesome if Apple built in findmymac into the firmware so no matter what you can track it when connected to wifi

I follow your logic, and yes, this is technically possible... but for whatever reason Apple does not do it. They could, for example, have their servers watch for activity from your stolen device's unique MAC address, but they don't.

That would probably get senators and everything all in a tizzie that Apple can track your every move. Some mindless policitian would demand that MAC addresses be banned from the Internet or some such nonesense.

Anyway, my brother in law had a $4000 custom road bike stolen from the inside of his SUV. Either his car insurance or his homeowners replaced it. Took forever, but he got a sweet new bike out of it. Of course, when he bought a new house, he couldn't get a new policy from a reputable company. Then his basement flooded.

Sadly... you are probably right about that.

Did she have "Find My Mac" turned on? If so, then try to "find" it by logging on to iCloud. If it is on, then you can remote erase it. That way, if someone attempts to connect to the Internet, it will erase.

That's assuming it has an Internet connection. The only way it can is for someone to connect it. Alternatively, you can set up a linksys ssid so if ever finds one (very common) without password, it will connect.
