I think it all depends on how you use your devices and what you need them for.

i will always buy the newest iphone immediately. This is my lifeline always with me piece.

I JUST bought an iPad 2 this past weekend. The 32nm model of course.

Why? because it gets stupid amazing battery life, which is kinda the point of these things right? I bought it brand new for $339 from best buy price matched from microcenter. An ipad 3 would have cost me 499, and i'm just not willing to spend that much. the difference between them for what I need weighs in favor of the one i bought.

Retina screen is nice, but i've got one in my iphone 5, and the ipad 2 still looks amazing.

Do what you need to do based on your own needs, and you'll be all good.

PS. hopefully the price drops in the next 30 days even lower than what i paid so i can go get an adjustment! booya!

When will you idiots realise it is NOTHING to do with the spec bump, it is the fact that it dramatically devalues something that we just bought.

When I buy an iPad I sell it when the next one comes out so I pay about £100 for the upgrade.

Now if I choose to wait till iPad 5 it will cost me £200-£300 to upgrade due to the devaluation, if I upgrade now I am paying out money just 6 months after for slightley better specs. Either way I am ****ed.

You devalued the device the minute you took it out of the box. Apple is not responsible for your after market sales. Sounds like you really can't afford your upgrade path if you are crying about money.

Why are you insulting him, did he do the same ? He just shared his arguments without any insults...

I'd say many customers relied that their product will keep some price level until next upgrade, whith actual cycletime avg. 311 days for iPad.

What is so hard to understand ? Ok, he might sell his old, but what in case someone bought his iPad last week ? There were rumors only about iPad mini, and nobody expected iPad 10" will be updated. I want to enjoy product, not to sell it right away, for example... There might be much more examples why you don't want to update right now, the first which came to my mind is, that customers expected to have 1 year cycletime and they just don't feel comfortable to make upgrade right now.

I think is not necessary to attack anyone, it's just a discusion about new product/update, which nobody expected.

Interesting. Apple could be moving to update their iPads twice a year... and the Macs only once a year. :(

Don't superimpose your interpretation into my rebuttal/observation.
In regard to your "why is it so hard to understand", there is nothing to understand here. A company has a right to release a product when they feel like it. It is up to the consumer to afford the new product if they deem it worthy.

What should Apple do, make sure everyone gets top dollar for the resale before they release?

If you want the guarateed highest reslale value, don't open the box.

The only reason people are pissed is because they no longer feel cool for having the latest. The device hasn't changed, you won't get anything less. Unless apple came into your house and smashed your iPad 3 they didn't screw you, they released a slight-refresh product that you DONT have to buy.

If you have an ipad 3 and sell it for this refresh then you need a reality check, and are only doing it to be cool and have the latest device... get, a, ****ing, grip guys..

If anything, this shows us who the REAL fanboys are.

If your complaining was justified, then surely the only time to buy an apple product would be within the first month of release, as if you buy it any later, your resale value will go down and down the closer you get to the release of a new version.
For example if I bought an iPhone 4s in September, I could probably only hope to recover 60% of its value if i sell it now, just 6 weeks later.
Personally I buy things for what I value them, not for what I hope to sell them on for at a later date.

You know what would be mind-blowing????

If Apple moved to a 6-month schedule for the iPads...

Seriously people, Apple did it to get all new devices on the Lightning connecter. End of story. The other "upgrades" were to give a little extra value and justify the "4th Generation" nomenclature.

Either that, or they are sadistic and love to see people whine in the online forums. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Well, there's some people in the world with no food... yet we're moaning about an iPad.

Hm. =[

Spot on. It's like there are people oblivious to the things going on in the real world.

It also seems like people have never purchased any consumer goods before, especially electronics. I am also into photography and "home theater" hobbies. Both industries have seen mid-cycle upgrades. Some were "upset" and "disappointed" and others welcomed it. I guess it all depends on which side of the coin you are on.

*£100-£200

Since you are American and find it hard to figure out the difference , that is $160-$320. A lot more then $100 thankyou.

It looks like your "business plan" didn't coincide with the Apple "business plan."

I can't see why they wouldn't be concerned with your resale value.

Real world usage huh?

Do you know that the iPad 3's LTE only works in the US?

Actually US and Canada, but What's your point? A little bit of research would show where it's supported and where it's not. There's this amazing thing it's called google.

Tie up too much of your emotion and/or worth in things, and you will always be disappointed ..100% of the time.

So true. I love Apple as much as the next guy on this forum, and I disagree with a lot of things they have done lately (rMBP 13" no gfx card for $1699? Wtf?) the iPad upgrade isn't on of them. I invested into the 3 because I expected to keep it for more then 6-12 months.

There's honestly not enough features and add-ons to the "new new iPad" to make me feel boned. If it was a complete redesign with a lighter, thinner build which had a longer battery and reference quality display like the iPhone, I'd be a little upset but that would be more then enough to justify me upgrading. But i wouldn't throw a temper tantrum like a 7 year old and kick and scream how unfair a company is for updating THEIR product. Until then I'm more then content with my "50% slower" old new iPad and don't regret it.

For the argument of people who bought it ~60 days ago, I bought a 2nd one a little more then 60 days ago from the refurb store at the same price they are offering now after the coupon I received. I still don't feel screwed and I knew it would be "out dated" within months. Just wasn't sure how many. Get over it, you have an iPad. :D

Not crying what so ever. Actually loving all the typical drama and the awesome resale value of the ipad 2 along with DEVALUATION of the ipad 3. Just sold 2 hours ago a 1 week old applecare replacement ipad2 16gb black with untouched original accessories for $320 (purchased march 9 2012 for $369 new from bby) locally on craigslist.

I upgraded for the same price to the ipad 3 from apple direct with $45 coupon, shopdiscover 5%+5% cashback, free smart cover, and the added features of ipad 3 for free upgrade + full 12 months warranty.

Not crying and glad I am able to step into a 3 and add applecare+ or squaretrade no deductible. I try to linger .5 generation behind or sometimes 1 full generation. Some items like the iphone 5 are latest generation along with macbook pro (wifey) but other items like ipod touches and ipads are trailing for slick deals.

I don't know about the rest of you, but my iPad 3 literally burst into flames the moment the 4 was announced onstage. Planned obsolescence? Indeed.

And that's why I'm so mad.

Yours too? Apple is upto no good again!
