Dude seriously these are Apple customers, the biggest whiners in the industry.

Yea I can't believe it either. Grown men bitching because they can't upgrade when they aren't eligable... Amazing

Anyone CAN upgrade. They just have to pay a bit more to do it earlier.

I've never been so ashamed of a bunch of spoiled Apple retards in my life. I don't get mad very often but this site got me that way less than an hour after the keynote. Many many Apple users are nothing but spoiled thankless x$%^&*&.

I swear, some of you need to get lives. It's just a phone. You bought a 3G when it launched. You were happy with it. Just because the 3GS is coming doesn't render your iPhone useless (I've been going strong with my original 8GB model). If you want the 3GS, then pay the money for it. If not, your 3G works just fine and you can wait until your contract is up and then pay for the 3GS.

Folks, this is the way technology is. You're getting upset because AT&T is making you pay more the new phone. ANY PHONE from AT&T (or other carriers) you're going to have to pay more if you want a new phone before you're eligible for the upgrade. That's the way it is. Because you bought an iPhone doesn't make you special or a different class from other iPhone users.

The best way to upgrade is to wait every other generation, not EVERY generation. First, it's cheaper. 2nd, you get better tech every other gen. 3rd, gives you alot less heartache.

Yep, I've waiting a LONG time for the 3rd gen (as I always do) and this is going to be a great upgrade for me. Next year, they'll have the 4G. Will I cry? Nope. Because the 3GS will still work when that launches. And by the time my contract is up, I'll be set for the 5th gen which will have better 4G hardware and Jobs knows what else.

STOP WHINING. Be adults.

its either give me an upgrade price or dont make me sign a new 2 year
but paying full price AND signing a new contract?
sorry ATT, not happening

Bravo! Well said, and I agree completely.

i bought an original iphone at full price - then got the 3G for the $199 -

for the 3GS i'm going to have to pay full retail? then the next year will i be eligible for the upgrade, or screwed again?

how about if i'm on a family plan and there's a person eligible for iphone upgrade but would let me use the upgrade. can i use it as my phone and keep my number and stuff?

It seems as though the answer is YES, but I'm trying to figure out how it's going to work. I know it will (I called ATT to verify multiple times), I just don't know in what order I am going to need to switch SIM cards and all that stuff.

i always skip a generation, i have the original iphone so i ordered the 3gs today at the cheapest price. if i had a 3g i wouldnt be upgrading

Good choice I am skipping this generation for the next one, and LMAO at Macbook "Collector's Edition" :D :D :D hahaha I have one too!

I have to agree with some of the posters on here. This is just a personal opinion, but I was once again underwhelmed by Apple. I really liked the Snow Leopard presentation, and I cannot wait for 3.0. As far as a phone upgrade I am going to keep my 3G, and hopefully Verizon will get it next summer!

This has been the cycle here at macrumors lately (so it seems).

People get all hyped up about Apple products or features that could be announced. Then they are disappointed when they did not announce exactly what they wanted.

I have had cell phones for a while and this is how it has always worked.

The whining will stop in a few weeks...until the next event.

It gets discouraging because I like to come here for information and knowledge, but it is tough to weed through whiney posts without banging my head on my desk.

I will admit that At&t sucks. but not because of not giving 3G owners ANOTHER subsidy after one year.

Its the original iPhone owners making the stop whining threads because we paid FULL PRICE. Same as you all, just in reverse order.

Dude well said, we come here for information about the iphone and all we read are whining threads and nonsense about the Palm Pre coming to kill the iphone, it's getting tiring.

Actually, I think it's just Americans. I have a friend about midway thru an AT&T contract with a Blackjack and he's even complaining about having to pay an unsubsidized price for an iPhone 3GS!

Okay.

But why charge me 699 for the new phone when I payed FULL price for the 3G?

I am not even eligible for this "early upgrade pricing" according to the web site.

Other folks that haven't been an ATT customer nearly as long as me are getting better price quotes than me.

And I have 5 phones on a family plan with 1400 minutes to boot, so I am paying a good bit per month.

Really how much did you pay for your 3G?

You miss the point

I think you guys miss the point. I have a loaded up IMAC and if Apple introduces a new IMAC and for WHAT EVER REASON I decide to buy the new one, should I have to pay more or wait some time frame to get the regular price? Is it not good for the manufacture to sell more product? I'm not sure I'm crazy owning a company stock that hinders its own product sales, especially in these tough economic times. Thats simple business. You can call us any name you want, but seems like Apple and ATT would want as many of their new phones on the street as they could get out.:)

Every notice how it's always the 1st gen iPhone people starting these "shut up" threads?
Well, some of us 3G owners are cringing behind our computers at the whiny attitudes of immature 3G owners. When it came to posts about the price for the 3GS for 3G owners, I said it was likely the price would be higher than the subsidized.
But, of course, fanboys ignored the warnings and thought they were special. They actually believed that AT&T was some sort of charity organization that was going to give them a cheap phone.

People have a lot of justified reasons to be mad at AT&T. However, the price of the phone is not one of them.

....but they have to do it in a way that is profitable for both companies. If it were profitable ALL PHONE MANUFACTURERS would be doing it. There is a reason why phone companies do it this way. That's simple business. I think you miss the point.

Here's an idea...stay out of the iphone part of the forums and you won't have to listen to our whining. Simple solution. Complain about anyone taking outside of the iPhone forums...not the people putting it where it belongs.
