I have always had 16gb models, including my current 6+ and have zero storage issues.

Then again, I don't have my whole life on my phone nor have 500 apps I never use.

It doesn't take much these days to fill up 16GB. You only have about 11GB to use anyway. Just a few videos and two pages of apps can just about wipe your space out along with several gigs in your text and messages with pictures that people don't delete. I personally like having a locally store GPS app such as TomTom on my device. It takes up 1.6GB of space. It's nice when you don't have a lot of data or no cell connection.

I'm about to come into some redundancy money whilst managing to secure a new job fairly quickly.

Majority of it is going into the wedding pot (got to keep the wife to be happy), but a small slice is mine to spend.

So I'm gonna crack on and get a new iPhone.

My conundrum is this:

I've only ever had 16gb phones and currently have a 16gb iPhone 5S so I acknowledge that my next phone needs to have bigger storage. I expected a 32gb minimum so well done to Apple for eliminating that to make everyone jump up to the 64.

In an ideal world, I'd like to get a SG 64gb iPhone 6. But these however are like gold dust at present and I don't really want to have to wait 7-10 (or possibly longer) days for one to arrive via the Apple Store.

So given that, is it worth paying £699 for a 128gb iP6, or £699 for a 64gb 6 Plus, knowing I can just reserve one and pick it up the following day....?

I don't really run into storage problems with my 16gb as it stands as I'm more of a data user and only ever have 9/10 albums on my phone.

But I'm looking at my phone now and I've on'y got 3.7gb spare and thats only having the bare minimum on it. I've been concious of the size of certain apps so haven't downloaded them for that very reason. I appreciate that apps are getting bigger and it would be nice to be able to download them without fear of having to worry about space.

I'm also getting married with looking to start a family so getting this phone would be it for me for the next couple of years (he says this now....).

So that's where I'm at. Thoughts/Opinions are appreciated.

Cheers.

128GB strikes me as something suited more for the 6 Plus, given that it can be phone & tablet, where-as I find it quite tough to fill a 128GB iPhone 6, as even though it has a bigger screen than before, it's not ideal for watching storage hungry things like movies.

Go for a 64GB and bear the wait. It'll be worth it.

Ive always purchased 16GB's in the past and never had issues. This year I went with a 128GB 6+ just because that's what was available, although 16GB would still serve me right...

From your message though you want a SG 64gb iPhone 6, so that's what I'd go with. Yes, you may have to wait a little bit longer, but to me I'd just go for what I really want rather then pay more or get something that's not my first choice.

Agreed. Ordering online means you can get exactly what you want. Yeah, you might have to wait a few days longer, but to me it is worth the wait.

I don't think it's a case of trying to convince me to get the 128gb 6 or 64gb Plus by posting on here, it's more of whether it's worth the extra outlay to get one of the above when I get the money in a couple of weeks right away, rather than having to wait an additional week.

It's been interesting to read the responses though and appreciate everyone's comments.

I've never had a phone bigger than 16gb so I guess the 64gb model was always the natural progression up but those with the 128gb certainly make a good argument.

I mean to have the opportunity to fill a phone up with photos/videos/movies to the extent that I'd never have to worry about space is something to consider. Especially as I would probably have the phone for a good couple of years. But then would I even fill it up to the extent of needing all that space?

I currently keep about 1000 songs and hundreds of pictures on a 32gb IPhone 5s and have plenty left, I went with a 64gb 6+ and I'm sure it will be way more than I will ever need considering I don't store movies on a phone. That is if Verz ever decides to send it to me. Oh yea, good luck just walking in and grabbing one, even Apple stores are not getting stock, not around here anyway.

Get the 64gb. I bought a 16gb iPhone 6 launch weekend and was scrambling the last week of my return window to find a SG 64gb iPhone 6.

"Redundancy money"? This is another phrase I don't understand, just like "questionable scam" in the other thread.

nobody should get a 16GB unless they're not downloading apps on it

WHAT SAY YOU 16GB LOVERS! WHAT SAY YOU!

Pretty much what others have said:
get the iPhone 6 128GB.
It's the marriage and starting a family thing.

I emptied photos and videos off my phone last week.
It was my nephew's 1st birthday yesterday.
I now have 2.6gb worth of photos and videos.
That's a few photos and time lapse from over the last week, but mostly videos and photo bursts (the best thing ever for capturing those special little smiles) from last night, of my nephew.
I could go through and delete the rubbish ones, but I probably won't.

I don't have my own kids yet, but if I did, that 2.6gb would probably be happening most days once my kid is moving around on their own and getting more of a personality.

It's an easy dilemma tough. You're going to use that iPhone for a couple of years right. Than get the bigger storage. It's worth the money. You never have to worry about space issues when you download a app.

Dunno where you're based, but everytime I look at the reservation page, Manchester Arndale and Trafford both seem to have 128gb iPhone 6 available

Edit:
Never mind, just realised you said in your OP that you already know you can just reserve and pick up next day

I'm another guy wondering about how much storage to get if when I get a 6. Here is my usage profile: I'm currently using an iphone 4 which I think has 8GB, and I've maxed it a few times and had to delete pictures and unused apps.

I don't take a lot of photos and no videos. I use a small to moderate amount of apps. I currently have 400 songs on the phone, but would probably keep a 1000 or even more if I had the room. I don't really need to keep more than 200 photos on my phone, if that. I tend to hold onto texts rather than deleting them. (I have a Mac Air, and I guess the cloud thing, and have moved some photos over there.)

So… How much storage should do I need? I don't want to pay a 100 dollars more and only ending ever using 11GB for the next two or three years, but neither do I want to max out in two months and always being conscious of storage issues like I am now.

I'm not a techie and don't understand this stuff well, but if I had guess, I'd say I probably need about 17GB…. Just a stab though. You guys probably know better than me.

I am in the same boat.

What I have done so far is turn off the iCloud Photo Library and installed Picturelife. It has lots of space for a good price and syncs in the background. There is also a web/OS x/Windows app version. It can also read iPhoto - so when you connect your phone to your computer, it will auto sync (with or without iPhoto actually). it will upload/sync videos you take as well.

There is also a "home server" option. I have started using Tonido - I have it installed on my backup Windows laptop and it works really well. Tonido will also auto-backup your photos if you want. It also works well for streaming videos/audio while you are away from home. Very little setup required.

One final options - which I haven't done yet, is a NAS-type as-home server. I have been researching the Western Digital My Cloud. $150 bux. Seems pretty legit, I might buy it eventually.

Unless you like having a ton of apps or music/video store locally on your iPhone, I really don't think anything above 16gb is needed. Just takes some creativity to make things work.

16GB can work if your needs are very modest (like my wife, who barely has any apps and doesn't use much in the way of video or music) or if you're willing to use some creative approaches to get around the lack of storage. Otherwise, I think it would be much better to go for at least 64GB just to avoid any potential hassles.

I guess that extra hundred bucks would buy me peace of mind for a couple of years, huh? I suspect I wouldn't feel the need to have more than 16, but if that's all I had I might have to at least think about the issue at some point down the road.

I bought the 16 GB last year, and it was the correct decision for me based on all factors and I would've done it again the same way at that time knowing what I know now, but you're about to start a brand new family and the economic and technical details of the iphone have changed over the last year, so in your situation I'd recommend something higher than the 16 GB.

What do you keep on your phone, and how much storage is left?

Semi-related question: I have iphone 4, and using IOS 7 I think? It says I'm currently using 6.2gb and have 0 bytes available.

If I get an iphone 6 with IOS 8, and have the exact same apps and amount of music on my phone as I do know, how much storage will I have left over? Does IOS 8 use up more, and if so how much?

I'm wondering if i really do need more than 16gb. Don't care about vids, don't take many photos, and have about 40 apps but only use a handful regularly. I do have 400 songs on there, and might like to add a lot more if there's plenty of room for it.

Wished they had a 32gb one...

And it's this statement right here that I said well done to Apple.

Everyone would have gone for the 32gb one if that was the low end option, but by eliminating it and by keeping the 16gb and then making the 64 the next level up, 64 is now the default mid level option that everyone will look to get from now on.

or thanks apple for rewarding loyalty to the people who bought 32gb over all the years

always another way of seeing things :)

Just went through that myself. I swapped my 16GB for the last T-Mobile 64 GB within 30 miles of me.
