I Don't know about you guys in America, but here in Oz, we use plastic notes, similar to your new $20? The beauty about plastic money is the way that makes it hard to counterfeit, and thus making the amount of counterfeiting money rings here less. I believe the prevention to be better than the cure on this issue! Go plastic money!

The $20 here is still linen paper. There would be too much rejection of valid money if we went to plastic. As is the new $20 is rather scorned as looking like play money.

Also it stays in one bit when you wash it in your jeans by mistake. The NZ notes are also plasticised and given the amount it rains there I'd have lost a ton of cash the last time I was there ;)

Undoubtedly both the woman passing the bill as well as the clerk must be Fox News watchers. I find if anyone believes in that right wing propaganda machine, they'll believe just about anything!

God Save (Us From) The King

"Why is this man in the White House? The majority of Americans did not vote for him. Why is he there? And I tell you this morning that he's in the White House because God put him there for a time such as this." --Lt Gen William Boykin, speaking of G. W. Bush, New York Times, 17 October 2003

"God gave the savior to the German people. We have faith, deep and unshakeable faith, that he was sent to us by God to save Germany." --Hermann Goering, speaking of Hitler

"A tyrant must put on the appearance of uncommon devotion to religion. Subjects are less apprehensive of illegal treatment from a ruler whom they consider god-fearing and pious. On the other hand, they do less easily move against him, believing that he has the gods on his side." Aristotle

"If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier -- just so long as I'm the dictator." --George W. Bush, 18 December 2000

"International law? I better call my lawyer; he didn't bring that up to me." --George W. Bush, 12 December 2003

uh, what are you smokin? this is about a person who was stupid enough to take a 200 dollar bill as currency, not about the left or the right.

and for the record, as far as the quotes, I can find the same good/evil comparo for just about any quote out there. and the last two are obviously jokes, when taken in context. i actually found them quite comical. and in fact, the dictator one is not only funny as crap, it's true. think about it for a minute.

why do some people find the need to turn everything into partisan politics?

It's not partisan politics... I just find in everyday discussions with people who watch Fox that they tend to believe anything that they hear as the gospel truth. Tthey also tend to be at that lower level of intelligence that loves to shop at Walmart.

Regarding the quotes at the end, no comment needed as they speak for themselves especially with the church going folk who I've experienced in the southern US who think Bush is a gift from God. They are the same ones who want to see the golden calf in Israel appear & a few horsemen come galloping over the Golan Heights. I'd prefer to have a much saner foreign policy team than the one currently running the show at Neocon HQ!

I once tried to pass a $1,000,000 bill with the statue of liberty on it as a joke at the local supermarket. It said not legal tender on it and there was an 800 number printed on it to order more. They caught it.

I have also tried to get change for a $1,000,000 bill. But then again, the clerk was a friend of mine. He caught me, however, even though it took him quite a while, as he did not look at the bill right when I passed it to him.

Plus ours are a lot more colourful than the American ones :)

I found this a very interesting assembly of quotes and don't find it a particular example of partisan politics.

But you have got to be kidding me if you found the quote with the reference to international law funny. If you're not and you actually find that to be funny I don't even know what to say to that it is so crazy. This is the exact mentality America is loved for by a lot of countries, especially the arabic ones...

on topic: He must have not looked, because if he did.... he should be looking for a new job :D (Besides not knowing that there is no $200 Bill, like every child should)

I love plastic money. I'm not sure that it's harder to counterfeit, though. Sure, it may not be counterfeited often, but why would someone have counterfeited a currency that wasn't worth anything until last year? :p

I think it could be harder to counterfeit, but the linen used to produce US bills, use a special and very very specific blend of materials, not just linen. An official can examine the bill based on materials alone and tell you if it was their linen or not. Of course, this is useless unless you have a science lab handy. A person at a store might not tell a difference.

The easy way to tell with that is to look for the threads. There are red and blue threads running through the paper.

That sounds like a made up story. No one would be that stupid. It's just a bunch of Democrats playing a joke on the cops and the media.
If Jessica "Is this chicken or fish?" Simpson can get confused on what Chicken of the Sea is, anything is possible.
