Maybe I missed it during the midnight preorder launch, but was there an option for in-store reservation or in-store pickup? I just hit the Pay button quickly to get it ordered, and it was defaulted to ship to my home.

No, there wasn't.

The only option was ship to home or ship to store.

They have said officially that orders of the watch will be exclusively online, I don't know how much more confirmed it can be.

Seriously I don't know what some of you people can't get through your head about this launch. They've said ONLINE ONLY yet you still trying to justify their being store stock? The sooner you accept the fact this isn't a iPhone launch and you'll have to wait if you didn't get one of the first batch the faster the wait will go by. Stores won't have the watch initially accept it.

So this release means nothing now? Where have they said online only, meaning pickup in store won't be an option come the 24th?

If you ordered it ONLINE and requested it to be delivered to the store instead of your house. It will be delivered to the store so you can pick it up. No store will have extra watches unless someone did THAT option and decided to cancel their order.

Your point is moot since there was and is no "personal pickup" option.

Ok, i guess i made it up for the attention..... It was definitely an option when i ordered mine.

I think you're mistaken, personal pickup was never available during preorder.

Also, from the release:

On April 24, Apple Watch will be available online or by reservation in Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers in China and Japan. Customers who purchase online or in-store from Apple will be offered Personal Setup to customize and pair Apple Watch with their iPhone.

The personal pickup check box is/was there, but it says "Personal Pickup is currently unavailable". No one has been able to get personal pickup. Every order is being shipped to the customer.

That Angela really doesn't want us around the stores, LOL. "This is a luxury retail store! No campers, no lines, no smelly hippies, please!"

I couldn't be happier. I was surrounded by scalpers during the iPhone 6 launch. I was super excited so I turned up at 11pm and I had to sit and wait next to a bunch of people who hated the iPhone and were only doing it for the money. I'm not sure what I was more mad about though, the fact that their ring leader seemed to have people up and down the 300 strong queue or the fact that I went home empty handed...

Perhaps Apple has been getting flack for all those lines. Malls have to hire extra security, etc. Lines MIGHT be good for Apple marketing, but perhaps malls and town/cities have asked Apple to come up with ideas to avoid customers camping out.

Still, I wonder if stores will have a "small" inventory of watches on launch day. :)

I don't know how they could. There are 30 different watches in the Sport and Watch collections. Having enough of those in stock at each store to serve even a small number of walk-ins would require a pretty large inventory, which they just don't have at this time.

Maybe chargers and that's it .. buying them on the site is 2 - 4 weeks for some and May for the others.

Don't expect to see bands in the stores anytime soon.

I agree. None of the stand alone bands had a delivery estimate of the 24th in the first seconds of pre-order. The only thing available early is the chargers (which I am certain made the stand makers very happy)

That is correct. That release is from March 9. They made later announcements saying no in store pickup will be available. They have also made it clear that is will be home delivery for a while. I would assume it may be all home delivery until they catch up with all back orders.

Personally I like this approach. I (and many others like me) do not live within reach of an Apple store. I think it is more fair that we all get into the same line.

You are the only one. No one else seems to agree.

Things like an Apple Watch are an impulse buy. The longer someone thinks about it, the greater the chances they will change their minds and this is coming from someone that has 2 on order.

He and apple agrees ;) and that is all that matters I guess, no lines come launch day.

Something had to be done about the lines , which were mainly made up of scalpers.

That's one expansive impulse purchase, while I appreciate you are speaking on our behalf, it's not an impulse purchase for me, cost me £1000.

I will be ordering mine online after midnight on 4/24 and hope that personal pickup is available

Apple should be selling watches and bands separately - problem with large inventory solved. This way, there are only 6 different models (3 x two sizes) which is no different to current range of iPhones... Than the only thing Apple would need to stock up on is variety of bands.
