All the people who chimed in with the advice that you shouldn't show your phone in public.

Unless they've found some way to use their phone while it's still in their pocket...I hadn't considered that.

i use the earbuds to talk and people think i'm crazy.

I hate to say it, but you are just a little too immature to be owning a 500 dollar phone. Those of us who do own them (and live in Toronto, which there are many of despite your claim) treat them with cautious pride and would not pull them out play with them in just any old place. Let alone be skating and reading text messages.

i can agree with some things said, and i'm SURE there's plenty of people in toronto with iphones, it's just that the OP is in his high school world, and it might be hard for some of us to remember that in high school, you just don't know. it's not his fault, it's just the way it is.

anyhow, to people saying he was "flashing it" or about not pulling it out anywhere... i don't have an iphone, but in the end, it's a phone. if i get a call or a text, i'm going to pull out my phone, 95% of the time, whether it's my current lowly razr or an iphone if i get one. otherwise, why have one? it's like getting a porsche and being too afraid to take it out of the garage because someone might take it.

recently my iphone got stolen and its gone just gone :( it was stolen from my locker from my pants so somebody stalked me to get it.To know where my locker is and to go through my pants, he didnt steal my headphones though so im somewhat relieved

You are so pathetic. How the Hell is using a phone flashing it? can you explain that one to me? The fact is that his phone was stolen and who ever did it is a pice of crap. The Iphone is a very wanted phone and is sure draws a lot of attention specially in countries where is not out yet. That does not give anybody the right to steal one.

I'm pathetic? I'm sorry, but any HIGH SCHOOL student who uses his iPhone, in a place where there are no there are no other iPhones, is doing it for one reason only, to SHOW IT OFF. I know, because I did it myself. I never meant to imply that that would give anybody the right anything. I think that whoever stole his iPhone should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Now it seems to me that you have little concept of money and that your parents will buy you what you want, with the proof being that you just bought another one on ebay, albeit a more expensive one. The fact that you were racing down the highway with little regard as to whether you got a ticket and the fact that you have a gps in your vehicle (which I know are not that expensive, but are a luxury none the less) are all clues to how money means nothing to you. Now if you would like to debunk my claim, let us know what high school you attend. I am betting it is not BCI.

Take it as a lesson learned and maybe you will be more careful with your next phone.

O come on man.. seriously.
you don't know if it was earned or not..
the only one acting immature about it is you..
anyone who wants one and can get one should

and if i had one i sure as hell would take it everywhere with me
if you don't take it everywhere and use it everywhere
then you don't deserve to have it

me and my friends are constantly pointing out the times when we
could have used one in every day life...

I lived in Toronto until a few weeks ago, and there are a plethora of people that own iPhones there.

The kid is in high school- so if no one else in his high school has an iPhone, that means that no one else in Toronto has an iPhone.

Sucks that he lost it though. I guess it's a good thing there is ebay and (most probably) daddy's $$$.

So, did you call the cops, OP? WHat if anything happened?

If you reported it stolen, there is a Police report. They should should invetigate. Did you report it to Apple? They can lock out the IMEI (even if it is NOT on ATT).

not all cases are investigated... especially not petty theft with no leads and heresay.

apple doesnt have any control over the phone once it leaves the factory, and at&t doesn't have any control over the phone after it leaves their network, or if it wasnt on it to begin with.

who are they going to tell to block the IMEI? magic fairies?

is an ice rink on your list?

yes probably, i would bring it every where with me.. i wouldn't put it in my back pocket or anywhere it could be hurt.. but i would certainly bring it lol
I think any true apple lover would be hard pressed to leave it at home. I would never of put it in a position where it could be stolen but i would definitely take it...

you'd have it out, typing a text message, while skating around an ice rink?

someone wouldn't have seen it unless he was making a spectacle. if i were out on the ice with one it'd be in my front pocket... especially since the back pockets are reserved for other purposes if i, of all people, am ice skating ;)

you. cant. be. serious... you're that guy, aren't you.

I'm not going to take this any further, but really...wow

I live in Southern California and I've seen a handful of people with iPhones and I still hide mine. I know that there are tons of people out there that steal iPhones, not too long ago someone broke into my car and stole my iPod that was an old school mini, it was at least two years old. I also have a $600 camera that I keep locked in my trunk if I'm not using it or a tight grip on if I'm out on a shoot. I guess your parents never taught you to take care of your things. Didn't you know that a lot of people would love to have an iPhone, even if they sell they'd be making full profit off of it.

Any way now that is out of my system, I have a question for the people that don't void the warranty on their phones: If your iPhone was stolen, would Apple or AT&T replace it? Just wondering. :D

:apple:FTW

And people say America is bad...

Also, why the hell should he "hide" his phone? Multi-touch doesn't work through your pocket... Or was that one of the features included in the $20 iPod touch software update? :D

you'd have it out, typing a text message, while skating around an ice rink?

well i would prolly use it if i was standing in place..
and he didn't say he was using it while he was skating...

Well i skated on ice a couple times and just played around with my iphone, opening txt msg's, Making Calls to other peers etc etc... Someone must have seen it, seen me playing with it.

you. cant. be. serious... you're that guy, aren't you.

I'm not going to take this any further, but really... do you judge all people this way?

I wouldn't call that judging. That's just him stating some facts mixed with the opinion of most people that have had to work very hard for what they have. I had to pay for my own iPhone and I worked my a$$ off to get that money. Same with my camera. I guess there are some people in life that take money very seriously and others that clearly don't, I.E Paris Hilton. But if the kid was mature he wouldn't have been showing it off or playing with it while doing something that would out his phone in danger (like slipping and falling and dropping your phone on ICE)

Wow, so the poor guy's iPhone gets stolen and Mac Rumors turns in to a lynch mob! The poor kid probably just wanted some sympathy but all he got was a lecture. Tough crowd.

None of us know any further details of the crime because he's been scared away by all the judgemental jerks here!

I'm sorry your phone got stolen, buddy. It's an incredible phone which unfortunately means people are going to try to steal it. I certainly don't hide mine from view, but I also don't let it out of my sight. ;)

I don't understand why you wrote a run-on paragraph that didn't contain a thesis statement. I also don't understand what the purpose of the post is. You didn't ask any questions. All I get out of it is that you want sympathy. You've already bought a new one so... most aren't going to be sympathetic. I guess you just want your old one back so you can sell it on craig's list and stiff your dad. You have no one to blame but yourself. No the police aren't going to help you, SIM card based phones get stolen all the time, you have no evidence, and they've got better things to worry about than someone who can afford 2 iphones.

It took me 4 months to save up enough extra cash to be able to purchase one on launch day and I'm not poor by any means, I just have more important responsibilities. Work for your money, then you may appreciate and take extra care of your high priced items, never let them leave your sight, and not intentionaly boast in public to those who are less fortunate.

All that being said, I'm sorry for your loss, I'm not heartless. But, I still don't understand why you wrote at length about it. The story serves no purpose and is full of rhetorical statements.

This whole post was started by a previous post by the OP that said "Customs. What does that mean?" And people asked him to tell the story, so maybe I shouldnt be so hard.....

it's like getting a porsche and being too afraid to take it out of the garage because someone might take it.
I think his situation would be more like driving the porsche through the hood all day and then leaving it running with the keys in it at the kwick-e-mart. Well... not the greatest example.... most people cant drive stick, but you get the idea. ;)

My first car? It was given to me, and I beat the crap outta it, and I left it running all the time.
My car now? I paid for it and I baby it more than anything in the world, no wreckless driving, avoiding bad roads even if it takes longer etc., and I'd never leave the keys in it.

No need to apologize... you might not be able to control it.

:D

Wow! You quoted me, but cut me off mid sentence, and made me look like an ass. Holy Crap! I wish I had your wit! I mean common, you are THE MAN!

Now, why don't you try to post something that will
1) Contribute something to this discussion
2) Respond in a MEANINGFUL way to something someone else said.
