That just sounds weird, having stock in the back, and lying about not having it, to the point of having to hide it from everyone. Unless they're hoarding stock to try to make sales figures for another period or something...

Yeah, something is going on, it is weird. Someone mentioned in the "In Store Today" thread that they went into an Apple store and were told there were no rMBPs. After talking to the employee for a little bit, the employee confessed they had 1 to sell and sold it to them.

So it appears that they are holding them for some reason.

That is certainly a weird story, but seeing as you are a girl I am not surprised. Most people that are in the tech industry are just more prone to help girls more then men (preferential treatment). They see them as innocent and if you are cute it only helps you even more. Unfortunately that is the way it is, and it will always be that way as long as men see women as innocent. It is just social stigmas still present in society. I personally don't care if you are a girl or not, you would get the same treatment from me as anybody else would, of course most people on this board and others amongst the internet will white knight in threads, but to be honest you only got it due to being a cute girl. If you don't like that, then return it and get a regular one. That would show them that you do not like being treated special just because you are a girl.

Not trying to be rude or anything, just saying the real reason you got the computer.

No, you're making an assumption. Unless you're the person that sold it to her, you can't state the real reason.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd like to believe that most guys could actually overcome their hormones for thirty seconds and manage to do something nice just because it's nice, regardless of the gender of the person they're helping. I guess maybe I think too highly of people.

Yes you do, I am making an assumption true, but when a guy sees a cute girl it is a common occurrence, 99% of the time, for the man to go out of his way to help her. If you say it isn't then you are just lying to yourself. That is how society works, whether you like it or not, that is how it works.

Back on subject
only the base with 256GB but ordered a 512 11" so have an official dealer swap them around .. now thanks to USB3 only takes 15 min with CC to clone my setup ..

Don't think the proprietary SSD in the air are the same as the one in the retina. Can't "swap" those. iFixit found this out during the teardown.

If I understand this part correctly, you plan to take the 512GB out of the 11"Air and swap it with the 256GB in the Retina?? I'm sorry to say but this is not possible. The SSD is the only part than can be replaced but I believe the connection is different between the Air and the RetinaMBP. This is why we have to wait a while to get OWC to produce an upgradable SSD for the Retina like they did for the Air.

iFixit states they are the same ... they never made a 512 SSD for 2011 air .. so makes no cense for them to make an old one ... too many parts bad logistics so i would tend to agree and belive ifixit ... if not it goes back ...

darrn ... read on one of the other sites some quotes from ifixit ... just checked never mind ill just buy an oem 512 when they are available :(

It sounds like a very limited stock situation and they're trying to handle it creatively. Stores may only get one or two units in every day or so, so they can't really tell customers they have them. Realistically, by the time the customer gets to the store, it'll likely be gone. If somebody comes in to the store, wants one and it happens to be there, they get lucky. But I can understand why the store wouldn't want to set that expectation.

As for the OP...She obviously got the hot chick treatment. Doesn't mean the Genius wasn't a nice, helpful dude, but I'm guessing he was more helpful than usual.
