Hey Everyone,

As many of you know, the speakers on the iMac G3s are pretty awesome, and I would like to use it for a jukebox. I would like to be able to stream music to it using Pandora, Spotify, LastFM, etc. My favorite is Spotify, so I would be okay with just that. From what I have seen, the last PowerPC version only supports G4 and G5 processors. I tried using that client, and it just crashes on start. Is there some kind of work around to get Spotify working on G3s. If Spotify is not possible, is is possible to get Pandora or LastFM. Any help is appreciated!

The iMac G3 would look nice as a jukebox, and I understand what you are saying, however (and I don't mean to rain on the parade here) it seems like you could set up a nicer speaker system that is more practical. The iMac G3 speakers are good for computers speakers, but if I wanted a music player, I wouldn't use it. Also, using 80+ watts to run a computer that just plays music seems a bit overkill. Anyway, if you still wish to do this, older/compatible versions of iTunes still work great and your G3 could be a music library server in that sense. The latest version of iTunes you can use on a Tiger Mac is either 7 or 8, but I use iTunes 7. If you end up wanting even better sound, you could always hook up a speaker system to the iMac.

I completely understand what you are saying. The iMac G3's speakers aren't sound system quality. Getting Spotify to run was more of a proof of concept, and a little test to see if I could actually get it running on a G3. I won't be using it on a daily basis, but it is kind of cool to tinker with it sometimes. Thank you for your input though!

Ah, I see. Well a fun project nonetheless. I do praise the speakers on it though; They are nice for a computer. It's sad that using an iMac G3 today is pretty slow for even my tastes, and I am used to using old computers. Luckily there are great alternatives with these old things. Needless to say, I have 12 of these systems and used one primarily for several months in around 2011 or so. They ARE fun to tinker with sometimes. :apple:

Only reason why I said it was because Spotify was on there too!
Yes Spotify is tricky to find since the authors dropped PPC support - I luckily saved the installer years ago but the G3 version was a real bonus from a forum member.
There's also a version for Linux available from the Spotify site - you have to hunt for it though - it's almost like they don't want anyone to know!

Really a shame that old versions must be so hard to find!
