Interesting to hear it's not just Verizon. I really hope this is just something that can be fixed by an OS patch or developer patch.

TuneIn radio is horrid since the upgrade to iPhone 5 and ios6. Buffer buffed buffer. Ugh. Rhapsody works fine.

Yeah some seem to work and others don't. So far this is what I've seen:

Doesn't work
-iHeartRadio
-TuneIn Radio
-Lex & Terry

Works
-Pandora
-Rhapsody

I'm curious to know if anyone has tried spotify. I don't have a subscription anymore or I'd test.

I will test the following apps after work
-Slacker Radio
-Shoutcast

I also want to add that I test streaming audio from the web and it was better then the 3 above that do not work, however there was still some buffering issues.

I've created a thread on Apple's support forum as well: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4434292?tstart=30

Exactly the same problem got my new iPhone five after having an iPhone 4 and then the buffering started straight away so it's definitely a problem with the iPhone 5. I hope they get the issue sorted. I used to be able to drive through many counties without buffering but the problem is now bad, every 20 seconds it will buffer its driving me crazy, I hope they get it sorted soon. Note this is in the United Kingdom not in the USA so this is a problem with the iPhone 5 definitely

Thanks for the info! That really does help narrow it down. Did you ever put iOS6 on your iPhone 4 and stream? I'm trying to see if it's the OS or phone.

Yes, and no problems at all, same reliability, iOS 6 on the IPhone 4 made no difference with streaming.. just As soon as I changed to the iPhone 5 this is when the problem started, same stations, and I don't think this is a app specific problem.

iHeartRadio just pushed an update which improves the stream consistency. I'm willing to bet that's the fix that needs applied to the other apps experiencing the same issues. So it looks like this is neither hardware nor OS. Time to start emailing developers lol.

At the risk of beating a dead horse ... exact same issue here. Just upgraded from iPhone 4 to iPhone 5 and switched from AT&T to Verizon. To further confirm the problem, not having any problems with streaming using a Galaxy S3 in the same areas (live in Orange County CA).

I'm a heavy in-car streaming audio user ... this is a really big deal to me. Hope app upgrades do the trick - soon.

OK ... morning update on this issue:

* The new iHeartRadio app didn't seem to provide any relief. I was buffering repeatedly almost immediately after leaving the house (in-car)

* Switching down to 3G (Verizon) seems to solve the problem. Both times I have tried, I have one quick buffering episode - and then the streaming works fine from there on

* Again, my Galaxy 3S is working fine w/LTE

So (and I'm a little out of my techie league here) ... this appears to be an issue with the iPhone 5 and LTE. Unfortunately - from my test this morning - it doesn't appear as if there are app-specific fixes.

I thought I was going nuts... I'm getting 4+ bars on LTE and having the buffering problem. Setting the buffer to longer (10+ seconds) doesn't seem to help either.

Tunein has had this problem from time to time, too - I remember a few updates ago it was buffering like crazy as well, and they fixed it. Hopefully they'll fix it again this time. It stinks to have a reliable low-latency connection only to have the apps not work well.

Verizon 4g lte, will not allow download or streaming!

I am having the same problems. Verizon 4G LTE does NOT allow podcast downloads (via new apple PODCAST app), it also does not allow streaming. I say allow, because when I turn LTE off all is well!

I am really starting to get annoyed. Why, oh why, do we need LTE if we CANNOT USE IT!??????? Why didn't I stick with the iphone 4????? REALLY VERIZON??? Now, this may be an iphone 5 issue....time will tell....if it is, then we need an update ASAP!

I'm hoping for 6.0.1 to come soon and see if that fixes the issue. It doesn't seem like people with AT&T are having the same problem.

Have recently taken a couple of long car trips (I stream in-car) in which I was able to more fully diagnose. Synopsis:

* Performing a full restore did not completely solve the problem, but it oddly seems slightly better; no longer having problems streaming from a stationary location

* The buffering problem seems isolated to the first 30-90 seconds of connection to a particular stream; once the stream "settles in", my connection works normally (actually very smoothly on Verizon LTE) over long periods of time

* However, when changing to a new station/stream (ooTunes), the problem "resets" until the new stream "settles in"

* Not having similar problems with Galaxy X3 and iPhone 4, so does seem to be a specific iPhone 5 issue

* I spoke to Apple support; rep said that if a full restore didn't work, I should take the phone in for a replacement, as it's likely a hardware issue

Hoping that 6.0.1 helps - but I'm guessing it's a hardware issue.

I am on AT&T in Los Angeles and listen to a lot of streaming radio, mostly the Radio Caroline app or TuneIn Radio listening to Radio Caroline.

I noticed a lot of buffering since I got the iPhone 5, compared to my previous iPhone 4S.

The fix seems to be just to turn off LTE and rely on the AT&T 4G.

I was also for a time having the same problem on Radio Caroline's two AAC+ streams and I switched to their MP3 streams, which fixed the problem. Now the AAC+ streams seem OK provided that I stick to 4G.

My conclusion is that there seems to be a streaming issue with the iPhone 5 and LTE.

I note that TuneIn has yet to release an update for iOS6, so maybe they are working on trying to fix the issue with LTE ?

After about a week or so of messing with this and looking at different apps, I have settled on the fStream app. It seems to work best (even though not updated for ip5/ios6) and what I've noticed with it is that it seems to settle in as noted above.

Also on my VZW iPhone, is it possible that the phone is learning where the LTE towers are in my area? The streaming is now rock-solid within about a 20 mile radius of my house (far east bay, San Francisco) - with 4 bars of LTE - and gets sketchy the closer in I get to the city. There's no more *228 on Verizon with this phone so I wonder if the carrier settings are being dynamically downloaded or something. I know next to nothing about cell phone technology so this is probably bunk, but it's what I've noticed...

TuneIn have just released an update for IOS this morning and I'm in the UK and are are now happily streaming BBC Radio 2.

Much, much better and no buffering at all for the last 30 minutes !

So now that iOS 6.0.1 has released, has anyone noticed a difference. I didn't see anything in the change log but originally there was supposed to be a fix to "streaming audio"

I updated today: no change whatsoever... I don't think the fix made it in.

How is your battery life for this? I have been using TuneIn and I really like it, rarely buffers but I just wonder how to best control my iPhone battery while I am streaming since it seems to eat it down.

New member here. I'm not certain that the buffering issue with the iHeartRadio app has anything to do with your cellular network. That was my first thought when I began having the problem with my new iPhone 5. I listen while at work; so, I turned on WiFi, connected to the office internet, and still experience the same problem. Wouldn't this indicate that it is a problem with the app or iOS6 itself?

Hello everyone,

We've just added our App to the App Store for iPhone and I've had some mixed feedback from i5 users on LTE and with various providers.

If those with iPhone 5's over LTE wouldn't mind testing our App and provide some feedback we would greatly appreciate it. Even other iPhone's 3s - 4s would be appreciated but please only test over cellular and not Wi-Fi or at least provide feedback for both.

Here is the App Store Link: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/club-megamix/id575137331?mt=8

Thanks in advance,

Hello
I am in the UK using Three and also wifi

I use Tune In to record BBC listen again streams for offline listening.

I used to have iPhone 3GS with iOS 5.x and Tune in 2.9.x - this worked perfectly for years

Now with the iPhone 5 and Tune in 3.1 I get regulular buffering as described even when connected over wifi, but worse still the streams crash or tune in crashes, normally after between 20 seconds and 45 minutes - annoying when I am trying to record a 3 hour programme.

This is one of the main things I use my iphone for so highly disappointed. I have not yet tried a parallel test with my 3GS as I initially thought the problem was related to me moving house but have since suffered the same problem on 3G and wifi in hotels in both Scotland and Germany

Very disappointed

Does anyone have any additional advice to proposed tweaks to config to optimise ?
