At least play a character that takes skill guys. :p  Look at me, I can hold my joystick back, or down, or press my button repeatedly to do my special move. :D

lucky!!!! i want that stick.... i wish i had the time to devote to learn VF5. its a great game, but extremely high learning curve... not to mention not much competition for it here in norcal.

im waiting for SF HD as well, but i would be playing it on xbox live as i dont have a ps3.

Yeah, VF5 takes some time if you really want to play it, but that's what makes it so great. I have the 360 version so I play online all the time, there's a large active community of online players so you shouldn't run into that problem of local competition. I play japanese players (experts) online all the time too.

I'll probably get the 360 version of SF HD as well only because Live is much better than PSN. The only thing though is that I read that the textures are going to be scaled down because of size limits Microsoft has on arcade games. PSN version won't have that problem.

That means making a choice between the better graphics version (PS3) vs. online play (360), I'm going with the community and getting the 360 version.

That is a lot of sticks...I had some Hori sticks for both the 360 and PS3, but made the switch and imported a Virtual Stick High Grade by Sega modded to work for both systems since it's originally designed to work only with PS3. This stick is awesome and blew me away. All Sanwa JLF component parts and if you're into Virtual Fighter 5 like me, using the same layout and everything which is a huge plus.

Waiting for the HD version of Street Fighter 2 to hit Live and PSN, and of course Street Fighter 4 whenever it comes out.

That stick looks awesome. I went looking for one, but PlayAsia is sold out. :(

Do you have 2 for local play? :)

Only have one at the moment, but plan on getting another one soon. The VSHG is the stick to end all sticks when comparing parts, official height, etc. of the board. All the specs that Japan uses for official tournaments, it doesn't get better than that.

I got mine from PlayAsia, and usually they have it stock so you can try again in a couple days if you really want one. They are sort of expensive when compared to other sticks, but a bargain when you realize what you're getting. The stick destroys everything else, even other sticks that are 3 times the price. It's highly recommended if you play fighting games a lot.

The thing is that you have to rip it apart and mod if you want to have it play for both 360 and PS3, even wii if you really wanted to. I had to buy an extra 360 pad controller, the switch, and mic input you see on the left of the pic., and have a buddy solder everything and put everything inside. It's very worth it if you know what you're doing. A lot of the Virtual Fighter community has done it.

If you want to go all hardcore, you can always create your own custom cabinet with two VSHG sticks so you can play all your fighting games in true arcade style like someone is doing right now....

damn, nice cabinet dude! cant wait to see that thing done...

I heard microsoft agreed to remove the size restriction just for SF HD, due to the time and effort spent making it.

also, capcom reveals a new character to appear in sf4 today: EL FUERTE.

I cant wait to see how he plays.

A SF2 arcade machine + winner stays on tournament? :D

depends which version of SF2 you guys are talking about. going by SF2: Super Turbo (or ST as its called), which is the tournament standard game for the SF2 series:

http://www.shoryuken.com/wiki/index.php/Super_Street_Fighter_2_Turbo#Tiers

the list is just a general guideline based on almost 15 years of tournament results.

heres a nice blog i like to read for ST videos and info:

It's not my cabinet (wish it was...) it's this guy from Los Angeles who's doing it. I was just posting a pic to show you guys. Maybe one day I'll do something similar.

The new SF4 character looks a lot like El Blaze from VF5, mexican lucha libre type of fighter. Wonder if he's gonna play the same. El Fuerte means "the strong one" in spanish.

yup, i think its a neat idea for a character. im pretty sure he won't play like el blaze. knowing capcom, he might have some pretty wacky special moves. i am a big fan of using grapplers for fun (although ive never used them as my primary characters), so zangief, abel, and el fuerte are gonna be interesting. from what i have read so far, zangief appears to be very strong in sf4.

I think I know why PlayAsia is sold out, there was a recall on that stick last year. :(

Yeah, but that was early last year when Sega just released the stick in Japan. That problem has been fixed for a while now. I've had mine for a couple months, and haven't had a problem with it at all. If you really want one you can try other stores that might have it in stock, but I still recommend PlayAsia for all that type of stuff.

how did you mod your VSHG to work with 360 as well as PS3? all my 20 sticks are ps2 and dreamcast... I want a good stick to use for both Tekken5: DR (ps3) and SF:HD (x360).

You need the VSHG, a 360 controller that has ground (I choose a madcatz arcade stick), a switch so you can change systems with, and mic input if you want one.

You then have to open up the box, take apart the extra controller with ground and fit it inside. Solder everything together with switch, and if you did everything correctly, you'll have a working VSHG that works for both systems with no lag. Awesome stuff, I had someone do it for me cause he's done a few already. These pics show the process somewhat...

sounds like a fun project  ! how much did you pay for your VSHG anywhoo?

I was digging some more, the Sega stick uses Sanwa parts, so it's truly UBER. If I can't get one, the other option would be the high end Hori, but it's buttons aren't Sanwa, so not as good.

I'm going upgrade my sticks to honor of SF4 coming to the Wii, so it better happen. :)

OK, I want one of these instead, it has 5 different kinds of da functions and was designed based on human:

Well the VSHG is $80 from PlayAsia, but shipping it from Hong Kong costs $40, so $120 just for the stick. Madcatz Arcade stick was $20 from Gamestop. Switch, mic input and all other things were around another $20, and labor for the person who did all the work to put it together.

Everything comes to about $200, which is still cheaper than higher end sticks you can order. If you can solder and stuff, you can do the labor yourself and save some cash.

Sanwa parts are awesome, and the VSHG has all the buttons through connections, not soldered in, so that if you want to replace them in the future it's a snap. Not only that, but it's based on the blastcity layout and parts, in other words, it's the EXACT same materials and board they use for the arcade machines in Japan and official tournaments, how can you top that??

Is SF4 coming to the Wii?? Thought it was just arcades, 360, and PS3? That youtube vid is really funny!!

It's only coming to the arcade right now. Capcom hasn't officially slated it for any console. :)

This is what Yoshinori Ono stated about multi-platform:
We’re not looking to release it on a certain platform first and use that to collect info as a beta test and tune the game we’re instead taking the opposite approach, by assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each platform and making a version to sit each platform as needed.

He also stated this:
Street Fighter IV, as it stands now, would be well-suited for the higher-level platforms. But the game doesn't have to have these visuals in order to be fun. We could go, potentially, to the Wii. We could make it on Game Boy, for all we know right now.

As long as the rules are the same, that can be independent of the visuals. So we're not going to be limited by any hardware specs; we're going to aim as wide as possible

SFxxx is a game that definitely doesn't need the top tiered graphics to be fun. I still like the SNES version of SF2 way better than any modern fighter.

---

I found some UK shops that have that joystick, but they want £89. With the US dollar sucking right now, that would be a pricey venture. I can wait, but what you stated about the buttons sounds awesome.
