Layaway Q

So, I put the mac on layaway till the end of the month. Since I have, are they still allowed to sell it? I'm just worried because of boxing day

Edit: Nevermind I found out, I asked my dad. Anyone know of any good articles to read before I get my macbook?

I think it's a good deal - I checked Apple Store Canada and this MB retails for $1149.
I have the same one (see sig), I just added 4GB of memory and I guess you will do the same, DDR2 memory is just soo cheap now.

And I think this MB will do all the stuff you listed pretty well. :)

Cool, how much was the 4GB? You needed 2x 2GB sticks right? They are dual channel right?

I guess you better search the forum here for what people think/experience with Patriot or G.Skill memory.
Those are good companies (I have G.Skill in my Desktop), but I don't know how well those run in a MacBook. All I know is that most people on here recommend Crucial, that's why I got that kit I linked to before.
And better get PC2-5300 (667MHz) memory (the Patriot is PC2-6400 800MHz) - I heard stories that your MB might not even boot whit PC2-6400 memory installed.

Alright, thanks. I am not used to upgrades with Macs... at all, I'm used to upgrading or building pcs lol. i like this sleeve, is it any good? http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4214432&CatId=38

there are no reviews, it's so I can put it in my backpack and nothing happens to it.

That sleeve is made for the MacBook Air.
I don't think a regular MB will fit in there (or it might be a real tight fit).
The MB Air is only 0.16-0.76 inches and the regular MB is 1.08 inches in height.

o_O didn't see that, thanks. I can't find any MacBook sleeves from stores near me, at least that I can think of. Except for the apple store, but it is kind of far away :(

can anyone tell me if they do sell imac applecare for around £50 if you buy instore and show them your student card because on the online shop it sells for £112 with the student discount

can anyone confirm this???

If you buy through the HE store either online or by phone, you get a three-year limited parts and labour warranty free - but as munnstermac says, you can pay a £50 (or £48) uplift to full Applecare (basically, the main benefit is free carriage if you need to send your Mac back as munnstermac says). To get this uplift, it must be at the time of purchasing the computer - you can't get it seperately.

UK Apple Stores just do the regular Education Store pricing, but one or two posters say that they have had the price of a Mac reduced down further to the HE level - but they couldn't get the £48 Applecare uplift (and if memory serves me right, they also only got the normal one-year warranty).

If you already have the iMac then you'll just have to pay the normal amount - £112 from the Education Store and £106 from the HE Store. However, you can pick it up for about £55-65 on eBay.

... It sounds like a bad idea now... In my mind if she bought it with the discount then sold it to me it would be the same if we buy it with her using her student discount... Because I hear of a lot of people buying it with the discount then their friends buy it off of them.

In some peoples mind it is okay to take advantage of store policy, such as no student ID but want the discount, by bringing someone along that has it!

We have blurred the lines between honesty and fraud. You are deceiving the company that your buying the product from. Fraud in the dictionary means:
"Wrongful or criminal DECEPTION intended to result in financial or personal GAIN!"

they don't care. I purchased my parents imac and my grandma's and it doesn't matter once the sale is completed. I purchased mine from the apple store if it matters. Both imacs are registered in there names

Sorry, im new to macs. My dad surprised me he got me:
MacBook
Companion 3 series II Bose speakers
Airport express, or extreme something like that

Do i need to wait until it is fully charged to use it?

Actally, it has been two hours, I had to move my comp n speakers out, then hook it into my sisters room move her comp out, make unboxing vids, and also someone said to let it fully charge. Is that neccesary?

I started my MacBook right after getting it out of the box.
It's mostly charged already, just connected it to power anyways before turn it on to be safe if you want.

edit: if the little light is green it's charged - if it is still orange then it is still charging

Thanks! I am posting from my MacBook right now, I've been posting from my iPhone or other computers in the house.

End up getting the white one? You are supposed to let it charge until the light turns green, but you can use it before if you want as well, the battery just won't be as heathy.

Yup, I ended up with the white one, it is awesome! I will calibrate it another time. I can't get my Bose Companion 3 series II speakers to work, my Mac just goes to the built in speaker but they are hooked in and the light is indicating they are on

Some people say like that, some say use/discharge the battery first and then charge fully and some say that it doesn't matter anymore with modern Lithium-Ion batteries,..., I have no idea which one is true,...

My MacBook was charged up to 97% when I got it - I was surprised. :D
