cujoca is dead-on-right.

I worked at Future Shop (sister company of best buy), and we would match prices always, and beat the price by 10% of the difference. All you will have to do is go on the computer and show the salesman, and prove that the software is "available".This is because sometimes people bring random flyers from these family owned computer stores so we call the stores up to see if they have in stock...because anyone can put any price on anything...it actually has to be readily available for the lowest price guarantee to work.

Often you would call one of these places and they wouldn't even answer or anything...so normally we wouldn't match tiny, personally-owned stores, but big places like apple of course.

Essentially, if the price difference is 50$, they will have to give it to you for the price apple is offering MINUS 10% of the difference (=5$, woohoo!).

If you go on the BB site you can read more about their "Lowest Price guarantee".

Last I heard, you couldn't get the educational discount on software at the stores, only online. They'll do it for hardware, and AppleCare, but not software. I doubt Best Buy would do it anyway, but it can't hurt to ask.

Seeing as how the student price for Leopard is online-only, Best Buy's policy is quite clear:

Internet-only retailers are exempt from our price matching program, as well as Web-exclusive offers.

Again, because the lower price on Leopard for students is only on the web, you'd find it hard to get that price match done. Not to mention the fact that it's a conditional form of pricing(one must be a student), not a sale.

Okay it won't hurt to try.. but how do i show them what price apple is offering students? bring up the website? print something off?
I'd say it's definitely worth a try. There's no harm in asking. As for proving it is real, a print off from the web won't work, as mentioned above. I really don't know how you would go about showing them the price.

hi everyone,
i have a $1oo gift card to best buy, (i can't stand best buy, but whatev) and i was wondering when leopard comes out if i would be able to purchase it at the student discount price? i mean.. they do have 'apple stores' in them, wouldn't they have the same policies?

Why not buy Leopard at the regular price from Best Buy? @ $129-$100, you pay $29(plus tax). Even if you left that card for some other purchase, Leopard would cost you at least $69(plus tax) as a student. I think if you really can't stand the store to begin with, this would be a good way to get a cheap copy of Leopard and get rid of that gift card (two birds with one stone;)).

Well, seeing as how the student pricing is going to be more than $100, I'd say you're better off just getting Leopard with $100 taken off. Not a bad deal if you ask me;)

I had been worried about this ever since the price of iWork went up to $71 for students. I just hope my campus store has it for cheaper.

good suggestion but I say either sell it or use it for your father/mother/sister/brother/friend birthday. I'm sure they won't mind! ;)
