Student Discount Online Question/Apple Care

Did you know that the standard student discount on the website actually gets better if you buy it from within your school/university? A basic example is the regular 13" MBP costs 999 here, or 939 if you go for a student discount, however if I sign in on campus the price drops to 859! This applies to all products over here, the retina MBP drops to slightly over 1,500 when I look on-campus =D

Indeed, a lot of people overlook this/don't know about it. Fortunately my uni offers a VPN service, so once I'm connected through that I can get the prices that I would if I was using a PC on campus. Pretty sure quite a lot of other uni's offer this too, might not be too obvious though... either that or I only have one because I go to a uni in the middle of nowhere

So yeah, £1580 for the Retina Pro for us which isn't *as* bad. No way am I spending that kind of money though!

Does anyone know about the free extended warranty (AppleCare without the phone support) in the UK for students? I've read in several places you get it on the online store only but all I can see is being able to add on the reduced AppleCare for £60?

In their TOS they retain the right to audit each order. If you get picked and they find out you aren't eligible they hit your card for the difference between edu discount and retail.

They don't, as that would be an illegal unauthorised card transaction.

It's added by default when you purchase any machine via the online education store. The HE uplift (that you're seeing) simply adds phone technical support to that 3 year warranty period.

I think this is becoming a bit of a moral thing more than anything else, because it sounds really quite easy to do.

Thanks, do you know if I can get the same if I place the order over the phone? I'm on placement year (aka away from campus all year) so can't order on the online store through my uni's network.

You can buy it up to a year afterwards, however it is only valid from 3 years after the purchase date of your laptop rather than the purchase date of the AppleCare if that's what you're thinking.

So i messed up my online order yesterday and had to call in and change it. This resulted in a $200 student discount and $100 gift card. Stoked!

Anyway I also forgot to ask about apple care so i called today to add it and it looks like there is a student discount on that as well that comes out to 239 or something. So if you are eligible for the student discount make sure you have it applied to EVERYTHING!

In many of the states home school is considered a private school. Are you a member of a homeschool group which could give you a membership card if you need it. Many groups are free and offer this service.

No i'm asking would u still get the applecare at a discount if you buy it in the future or do you have to buy it on the day you buy the laptop? I understand you have to buy it within the year and you get up to 3 years covered. Im asking about price, can i still get it for $239 at a later date.

Definitely get AppleCare. I'm not sure, but it's probably the same AppleCare selling on amazon or ebay. Get it from there, it's cheaper.

I'd stay away from ebay - too many horror stories about fake Applecare sales. You can register and it appears legit until you make a claim and discover it isn't. Best price I've seen is form B&H Photo - who is a legit Apple dealer. Was even cheaper than Apple's edu price.
