Guy, I hate to break it to you. But this is a cheap monitor. It has a 60hz refresh rate in 2022. That is completely unacceptable to anyone with a pair of eyeballs who is currently used to modern monitors.
It's not a cheap monitor. LG sells the 5K UltraFine for $1299. It is also 60Hz. Thunderbolt 3/4 doesn't have the capacity to support higher refresh rates at 5K. Knowing Apple, the color accuracy and calibration will be great, and this display has other features such as a 12MP camera and high-end (for a display) speaker system.

I just noticed that this monitor comes with an old Tech, TB3 port and, even then, only one of them. Why not TB4 instead of TB3? Why not at least 2 so the monitor can act as a single connection, laptop dock. Why too are the USB-Ports limited to 10Gbps? Why are the USB 3.2 ports limited to USB 3.2 Gen 2? Why not USB 3.2 Gen 2x2? Then there is the size. Why is there still no 32 inch 5K monitor that is targeted toward the consumer market?

Hmmm.
It's a bandwidth issue. TB4 wouldn't make any difference there (it just standardized compatibility with other protocols). As for the size, it's because Apple wanted to keep the PPI at 218. They would need to go to 6K if they made the display 32".

Your sample size is 1. My sample size is closer to 150.
I visit clients (though not much over the past 2 years). Most offices that I have seen renovated within the past 10 years or so use VESA mounts. Anyone spending $1600 on a monitor will spend the $50 for a VESA mount.

Clearly your experience and my experience differ. I do certainly see VESA mounts in some offices, but nowhere near "most".

Well, someone spending $1600 on a monitor will probably spend closer to $300 for a decent VESA mount. Where most will differ from Apple customers, however, is that they won't actually have to select an option on the monitor in order to do so, because every single other monitor they are shopping for will already include that ability.

a lot of pc users turned to lg's 48" c1 as a desktop display for its great feature set (120hz, gsync, proper HDR & DV with good peak brightness)
That is what I have done. It’s not perfect, wish the resolution was higher, the auto-brightness freaks out sometimes and lacks PIP. But, I have both my work laptop and Mac Mini attached. I need to switch video inputs when I want to change computers. I use a no-brand keyboard and mouse that lets me switch to use with each of the computers. Having 4 equally sized windows to navigate around my different apps is really nice.

I wish this had an integrated Apple TV with Remote so I can use it as a smart monitor/TV. I'll stick with my Samsung Smart Monitor I guess.
Technically it can, it has A13 built in, which is more powerful processor than what is currently inside Apple TV 4K. So they just have to switch it on in the firmware. BUT THEY WONT.

I am in the need for a new external monitor. Any recommendations people have? I don't need 5k. Studio display seems very high priced to me even with my military discount.
At least you can use your military discount. ID.me has yet to bother to actually followup on my second attempt to break the suspension on my account. I even asked them to delete my old account and let me set up a new one - volunteering to get on an ID verification call if needed - and all I get are rude responses that could probably count as copyright strikes against Bartleby or the last Avengers movie. They are the absolute worst. I am glad that other companies use computing products that actually seem to care about their customers.
The discount is not much, but it more than covers tax which is good enough for me.

Sorry, got so caught up in the frustration of dealing with ID.me that I forgot to mention that my LG Ergo 32" 4k monitor is pretty great and can be adjusted horizontally and vertically. My only interest in this one is the integrated USB-C hub and camera, and even then it might be worth just getting a CalDigit hub and monitor-top camera instead.

It doesn't matter that the display is 5K. You will never see the difference between 4K and 5K. What you will the difference in is the awful janky feel of 60hz. A refresh rate less than CRT monitors built in 1999.
It isn’t as if the Mac Studio won’t work with cheaper 4K displays with higher refresh rates.

I hate to break it to you, but there isn't anyone in the world selling a 5k monitor with 60hz refresh rate.

You may be an oddity some edge case where refresh rate is more important to you than pixels, but many many people prefer more pixels, including me. Once you get to 60 hz I don't care for anything faster, but i do want a sharper display.

How many other 5K displays have >60Hz? How many other 5K displays are there at all? I would like to see MicroLED, but that would push the price well over $2,000. This is essentially the 27" iMac sans the Mac (but with an A13 chip). Plus the VESA option is a better value, IMO, than getting the stand.
It's still a **** offering from Apple. Only fools will buy this, and I have no doubt that they will. It's the reason we don't get better from Apple.

How so? Knowing the limitations of Thunderbolt, what display would you have recommended Apple release for the price point? A 5K display with a higher refresh rate isn’t possible. A 4K display would not work as well with MacOS scaling. HDR or microLED would be more costly.

LG C2. Higher refresh rate, HDR, better peak brightness, cheaper.

I don't think you realize how huge of a difference refresh rate has on virtually everything. All motions are smoother. Use a 120hz device for a week and then switch back to a comparable device at lower and you'll notice the jitter. This is much more significant for a 27" screen than the jump from 4k to 5k all other things equal. Maybe above 30" or so resolution would matter a bit more, but still refresh rate is huge.

You will not see the difference between 4k and 5k unless the monitor is less than 21" away from your eyes. Most desks are close to 30".

That's like saying "there's isn't anyone in the world selling a car whose wheel hubs use six lug nuts instead of five" and then trying to justify a $4000 upcharge on rims because "nobody else in the world sells rims with six lug nuts".

There is next to no benefit to having a 5k 27" monitor, other than to brag to your friends that you have a 5k 27" monitor.

It's always weird when someone pulls out the "you're not the target market" line whenever someone complains that they are being underserved. It is such a condescendingly elitist response that basically says "you're not important enough to be considered a valued customer."
[...]
And that's the part that makes comments like yours (and by extension, Apple's, since what you say is, in essence, exactly what Apple are also saying) infuriating. "You're not part of this exclusive club we consider the 'target market' anymore."
Wow, you're really good at seeing motivations and intents that don't exist. Apple builds a lot of nice products for which I am not the target market (and a few for which I am). It's one thing to say "this product doesn't fit my needs", it's rather different to say, "here's a lengthy list of things they got wrong on this product (which would change it into an entirely different product)". Bashing them for missing the mark when that isn't the target they were aiming at, is just silly.
