Probably there will be a few units available as it is usually the case with other Apple products at launch day. Don't expect BTO options to be available, I doubt that something like tilt+height nano-texture displays will be in store. Probably the regular coating with the basic tilt stand, and maybe the VESA option
Yes, the base display models will be shown at the Apple Store.
Confirmed by the rep when I picked up my repair at the Genius bar yesterday.

I am looking at the base model EDU pricing - would they let me pick up at the Apple store using the $100 discount ?
Do I pre-pay for it on the EDU site or is it better to show up at the Apple store hoping it won't be sold out ?
I'd use my Apple Card to make the purchase and get 12 months free financing....

I used the EDU discount several times in the past, and usually I order it online on the EDU store for pick-up at my local Apple Store. I never had issue doing that, and I can see if they have the device I want in stock before going to the store
Yes, they restocked on Saturday & Sunday - here in the Southern California stores but sold out within 12 hours.
Check each morning for Apple store availability at 5am PDT when the new inventory goes up.
Grab it, pay for it, and set up an appointment to pickup.
My base Studio Display was available on launch day but the all sold out in 90 minutes.
Pro tip: check other Apple stores nearby if the one you are close to does not have it - I had to drive an extra 15 miles past 3 other Apple Stores to grab mine on launch day.
I think that timeframe may be tough to meet. They were a few available at most Apple stores I checked last Friday, but have seen none showing up as available since then.
I doubt you'll find anything other than the "standard" fixed display in store.

Yes, it will check multiple stores in your area. You can test it with a MBP to see which stores it's monitoring.

You are right checked the MBP and it showed all the stores that have them.
