Many thanks for the heads-up - I'll check them out.
CashForYourMac dot com is also a good choice.

It's worth comparing offers, some of them might give more than others, depending on the gear. I've used a few different ones, never had an issue.

CashForYourMac specializes in apple gear, and they have a retail store in san diego, which is kind of nice to know.

I have searched for several years to find another monitor as good or better than studio display, but did not find anything. Are the elites hiding it from us?

I went to the local Apple Store today and they had a Studio Display XDR in their showroom hooked up to a Mac Studio. Damn... what a gorgeous display with respect to resolution, color, blacks, etc.

I'm getting closer. If I purchase one it will be through B&H in New York. If you use their Comenity credit card, they'll pick up the sales tax. Which in my county in California is 9.4% - a good chunk of money. And FedEx shipping is always free. I've been using B&H just for that purpose for years. Has always been been a pleasant experience.

This reminds me of the original studio display; after the announcement, everyone trashed the specs and the price.

The people who bought one? They all love it.

Even the reviews for alternative displays acknowledge that the studio display is better looking. There's a lot to be said for that. (But the complaints are still valid; get those discounts if you can.)

How did it compare to the regular studio display?

Finally, I decided not to get it, for the fact it has a built in microphone and webcam. I specifically have a laptop without microphone and camera and I don't want to undo that effort.

I am seeing random system crashes in the middle of work. XDR 2026 and old XDR Studio are connected to Studio Mac-M2. This has happened twice during last 24 hrs. The system used to be 100% solid with old XDR and old Studio Display connected to the same Studio M2 Mac. Right before the system crash New XDR display looses synch on half of the screen, then system crashes .... very strange.

Looking at Apple's Studio Display XDR Compatibility section on their website says it is compatible with Mac Studio 2022 and later running with macOS Tahoe26.3.1 or latter. Could that be the issue?

Also..."Mac models with M1, M1 Pro, M1 Max, M1 Ultra, M2, and M3 support Studio Display XDR at up to 60Hz."

Notice I never said it was the same? Just said it was what I was using...
I know. Typed on my Dell 40" 5k 120 Hz Thunderbolt Hub Monitor. 😉
Right there ^ that’s where you compared it, by referring to it as a 5K 120Hz display (which it is not) in a discussion about Apple’s new 5K 120Hz Thunderbolt hub monitor, where it was obvious your comment was intended to infer equivalence.

I couldn't A-B compare on the spot with a regular Studio Display, but it was clearly better than my previous generation Studio Display at home.

Infer what you would like, my Studio Display XDR will be here tomorrow.

ProDisplay XDR arriving on Monday... Because, I want something >60Hz for Mac Studio, and why not 🤷‍♂️

But... questions I ask myself.

1. With the regular Studio Display, yes yes, it has an iPhone chip dumped in the case and good sound and improved camera, but... I've been looking at that same screen at 60Hz since 2014. That's 12 f-----g years of 0 improvement. It's been a minute.

2. I opted for the XDR and want VESA mount, I didn't really think about it, but that's like a $12 piece of metal -- because Apple's is special and built out of unobtainium with a magical pixie dust coating, or it's actual value would be closer to $2 -- which tends to be present on Every Other Monitor on Earth anyway, but I digress... It seems to cost exactly the same as the version that comes with the adjustable arm, so... I just donated all that extra cash to Apple because I'd like to overpay even more? I guess so.

This post is very hard to understand, I read it at least 5 times and still not fully clear what the message is.

1. 27" 5K apple monitors have been around for a while now.

2. Why'd they stop charging more for the adjustable stand, and why doesn't the vesa mount cost significantly less?

It is wild that Apple displays are getting so complicated that they are crashing the mighty MacOS of all things.

I'm guilty of that 100%. I'll roll my eyes at the announcement and tell friends there's no way. And before you know it, I own the product. The funny thing is, I usually don't have any buyers remorse. Just my experience and wanted to admit my fault here.

I know the new Studio XDR has been bashed pretty heavily here, but I just set mine up and I'm glad I got it. It replaced a 2 year old Studio Display. After just a few minutes of use, the standouts to me are the much deeper blacks and the smoothness of scrolling. Do I "need" the XDR? No. Do I wish it was priced a bit lower? Yep. But, damn, it's nice.
Be happy you got the XDR.

I went to a store after I got the new XDR to compare the difference with my own eyes and played video side by side on the XDR and the ‘regular’ Studio Display. I was instantly pleased I got the XDR. The standard model is fairly grey and less sharp somehow, what I find odd unless it’s due to bleeding and the smoothness of 120 vs 60 makes the difference even bigger.

If you don’t need/want XDR you’re better off looking at a different brand display. I feel the price is more justified on the premium model once you’ve seen them side by side and the vloggers are being too kind about the base model being “still so good”

Theoretical question, let's pretend both the studio display and the xdr version cost the same. If your use case for the monitor is working on a dell computer, is there any advantage to the xdr, can it run the higher refresh rate in SDR or can it only run on an apple computer? I have 2 laptops, one with a 60hz display and one with a 120 HZ display, I don't really think I notice a difference.

He's having major issues.

Did he jack his thunderbolt port on the MacBook though because wiggling the connector on my setup doesn't kill the image... he even mentions it himself :s

The cables are thick indeed, but driving 5K at 120 requires bandwidth especially when daisy chaining to a secondary 5K monitor.

Hopefully more options will come to market soon like OWC 2 meter Thunderbolt 5 cable, not available in EU atm

The message is I needed a lot more coffee. Also, Apple just sent an email stating they're charging back price difference for monitor since I picked VESA mount, not their stand.

They just addressed my 2nd point and dropped the price by $400 in their store. (And apparently refund to whomever paid original cost.)

Yeah, I just got the XDR today. Dang, it looks good. I've always used iMacs on my desk (ever since OSX came out), so this is the first Apple display I've ever bought. I've tried others that spec out the "same" as Apple's displays, yet they never looked as good as the displays in my iMacs. I'm running this one from my 24" iMac M4 and it's fantastic. I missed the 27" size of my last iMac, too, and I've been craving it.

I do a lot of work from home and I take a lot of pictures, so I spend a lot of hours in front of my bloody computers. Aside from how great photos look on it, even just scrolling through emails or pages of text is more pleasant at 120Hz. This thing is bloody expensive. But it'll last a long time, at least.

There was a firmware update waiting, which I did, and no problems whatsoever.

The new webcam on the 2026 Studio Display seems much improved over the older model according Macworld review. By their comparisons it looks like it. I know not a good reason to upgrade, but if was buying new would be a good reason.
Why are people saying the webcam is improved when the guide specifically calls out the old boring weak 12MP webcam? That's the weakest point of the displays, both regular and XDR. It's not like better tiny cameras don't exist...

The 12mp camera combined with the A19 pro image processing is already making my face sharper than I would like on teams calls 😂
That's what some people miss. A webcam isn't just about raw MP and image quality. Even the top end Logitech Brio model is only 8.5 MP but has a bigger sensor. Webcams need to balance image quality with image size to stream multiple video feeds in real time. Anyone that needs top end image quality for content creation is using a real camera. Apple is using the right sized camera for the right use case and producing a good image. But I get it, some have a need to complain about everything.

Just watch the Macworld review. it is a big difference.
