I'm NOT really sure why Tim Cook is so hesitant to improving the App Store, but if he did, the NON-Game App revenue numbers could explode !

For starters, two simple Filters could be added to the Today tab in the App Store app, one that says "NO Game Apps" & another one that says "NO Apple Arcade" !

Most adults would set both to ON !

The net result would be Apple would present / recommend OTHER apps of interest !

Game Apps account for 85% of Apple's App Store Revenue.

They get another 10% from Streaming Media Content sub apps.

Everything else gets the remaining 5% !

That remaining 5% could go 6x if Apple created a 2nd App Store, ONE strictly for Adults, or go 3x, with just simple filters, as I've described.

Being Risk Adverse comes primarily from being In Over One's Head !

NO ONE could ever say that of Steve Jobs.

But Tim Cook's Apple is clearly scared to death of some things, like improving the App Store !

I don’t have a tiktok, so maybe I’m missing something but how does one spend money on it? Isn’t it a social media app? Is it people spending money on advertising maybe to boost their own dancing video above the others?

When everything is turning to subscription, of course spending goes up.

What’s sad is how much App Store money is for games. There’s a Yahtzee game I play that now introduced a spinning wheel where you can earn more dice rolls and other prizes. After you spin the wheel it gives you the option to spin again for 99 cents. I would never do that but I bet there are people who do. And a lot of games now have incredibly intrusive ads and if you want to remove them it’s $4.99. None of these games are worth $5 and if you search the App Store you’ll find tons of other games just like them. I don’t know how Apple can be proud of this.
They're not. They're proud of the money they've made.

This is exactly why another reader had commented in a previous article last week about the small business price scheme changes, and that it was cruddy Apple made the changes effective date after the new year.

I totally agree.

Cruddy? Seriously? Wow.

Nice! Which came first? The chicken or the egg. Don't think the new Apple is risk adverse in any sense of the word, therefore your argument falls flat. (I'll leave it to the reader to see what Apple has been up to since 2011)

Not surprising considering that most people were under stay-at-home orders sometime throughout 2020. I have Netflix, HBO Max, Carrot Weather and Peacock subscriptions through the App Store, so I'm sure I contributed to the overall amount.

bruh how? most apps are free
That’s what I was thinking. I don’t have a ton of apps and the only 3 I ever spent money on was Navigon Fantastical and HoursTracker and perhaps one more I had to pay to upgrade. Other than those all of my apps have been free. That’s just me and I’m sure there are many excellent paid apps that people want or need.

$100B? Does these contain multimedia purchases too like audio books and movies?
I am going to guess a lot of it is subscriptions too like Netflix maybe?

In-app purchases add up in a hurry. I’m guilty of letting my son make one or two now and then on special occasions - but he pays for it with his own money and/or additional chores.

Plus with iPad being more flexible, larger productivity apps are being access.

Love this ... active parenting!
Teaches:
value of dollar spent vs earned,
responsibility of spending and helping when to choose to spend,
soon to consider when it's ok not to have something right away and lesson that sometimes doing without right now can pay big in the future - that is in practice and is a longer lesson.

Bravo!

This kind of revenue without most of the 1.4 billion Indians not buying on apps yet. (Not sure about spending users in China)
Can’t imagine what will be the numbers when they and other people are able to afford spending on AppStore and play store.

Congratulations on your achievement. Personally I would rather go through the App Store but that’s just me.
I think there is a place for all of us in this world, thank you for not flaming my post. For me it is a bit of principal and a lot of I dislike the whole AppStore experience. A bit like iTunes....
